Do yourself a favor and don't see The Skeleton Key. The ending was disappointing and not very surprising, and everything leading up to it was just useless.

Not many people if any are going to agree with you on that one.

I agree, war of the worlds was cool at first, but then i had after thoughts and realized, what a shitty movie. the more I thought about it, the movie got worst.
I want to see Four brothers.

I saw Four Brothers earlier tonight and I found it quite entertaining. Especially for an action movie. I am glad to see someone finally did the shaky cam properly. The action was exciting and fast paced, but I could still tell what was going on, unlike in The Bourne Supremacy (and many other movies) where I could not tell what was happening and left the theatre with a headache due to all the shaky cam.

I hope duce does better next weekend... we may not get a third one to fill in all the loose ends if it doesn't do better.

Finally saw Wedding Crashers and it was all kinds of funny. Vince Vaughn never disappoints. Also the women in the movie are more than I little hot.

totally agree, I walked out the theatre thinking "cool film", the more I thought about it the more I thought it sucked.

I noticed spielberg kind of re-used past success of his, when the aliens entered the basement = like the raptors in the kitchen in jurassic park etc.

Spielberg also casts young girls alot in his films an they've been great before. But this time around all he had do was cry and scream more or less.

I wouldnt watch it again.

I agree with him 100%. WotW was bad, just really bad. I will never watch that movie again. Last year it was Troy, this year Worlds is the front runner for worst movie of the year (that I've seen).

And I did hear that The Great Raid was a decent movie, thinking about seeing it next weekend.

It looks like The Island was a complete bomb. I heard it made like 12 million.

Anyways, I hate most mainstream movies, but I actually thought this film was rather good. At least parts of it were thought provoking and intelligent. It really could have worked as smartsy film, similar to A.I., but the action sequences should have been toned down a bit. Good flick, though.

So much crap!

It's pretty upsetting that producers think we will pay for these crap films.

Saw The Chumscrubber a couple weeks ago (not sure if it's out in wide release yet?) and that was good and saw Four Brothers a couple days ago and that was good also. I'm a fan of those revenge type movies... They are just so damn satisfying.

I liked War of the Worlds. It was entertaining, and there was a lot of nods to the original B&W version of the movie. (the hand falling out of the ship with the steam, the basement scene, the eye, etc). It was good summer popcorn flick, nothing more.

The Island made $34.1 million to date. :)

I actually liked the movie too. The action scenes were sweet, the pace was pretty good, and Scarlett Johansson is the hottest she's EVER been in a movie. Heck, what more do you need?!

I plan on seeing the Aristocrats this weekend, has anyone seen that yet?

Saw Four Brothers and it's a great revenge flick and I love how Singleton shot the movie. Very well done. Some people said it was slow, but I thought the pacing was OK. Marky Mark continues to impress as an actor.

As far as War of the Worlds goes, I don't know what crack you guys are smoking, but that was a damn good movie. I even hate Cruise normally and thought he really came through on this one. Oh well, opinions are like assholes, right?

I'm a sucker for horror movies. Even if they're bad, I usually enjoy them. Such was the case with The Skeleton Key.

During the previews, there was a trailer for The Exorcism of Emily Rose (http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hv&cf=info&id=1808678441&intl=us). Will probably end up being a standard horror flick, but it looks great.

This has probably been one of the most underwhelming summers in a long time. Even the big movies are pretty lacklustre. I enjoyed WotW, but I wasn't rushing back in line to see it. Most of the rest of the summer releases are renters at best.

I guess I'm just saving my enthusiasm for Serenity and The Corpse Bride. Looks like fall is the new summer.

Spigot - I agree on the whole. . . I do think "Batman Begins" was an excellent movie and I enjoyed "War of the Worlds" as a popcorn movie, but, yeah, mostly suckage.

I liked those as well, but were they "summer" movies? I guess I don't remember.

I do remember last week looking at the movie release list out to September 30th, and not being excited (or even mildly interested) until Serenity.

Sky High was great, if you've got kids.

The Island was tragically Michael Bay's best work to date (not saying much overall, but for him, it was alright). Of course, his fans punished him for trying. :boggle:

Careful if you see the Artistocrats: you might just laugh your damn eyeballs out.
If you don't... well, I guess the world needs cold hollow husks for those cubicle jobs.

If you wanna see an excellent movie, go to Hustle & Flow or Crash before they disappear. Those are the best of the year so far for me.

I thought the Island was OK, but Bay's best flicks are Bad Boys 2 and The Rock. He should really stick to straight up action. He does that better than most.

Bad Boys 2? Christ I just wanted that movie to end. It had good parts, but it well overstayed its welcome. The Rock was alright, but some of the scenes were just wildly senseless. I'm sorry, but the chase that served no point early on, that just took me out of it.

He does straight action extremely well. And he's getting better with the story.

Looking at the box office totals.... I'm guessing the answer is "No." and "No."

Also, the best 3 movies I've seen this summer:

1) Batman
2) Wedding Crashers
3) The Island

Yep, that list is pathetic but there's just so much crap out there right now.

I actually liked all three of the movies you have there, but I do have to say that War of the Worlds would bump The Island down to 4 for me. Then maybe put Fantastic Four down to 5.

I may have put it (Fantastic Four) up higher (at 4, ha ha), and the Island at 5, but the stupid ads that said "4ever" in the tagline really irritated me. Alot.

I enjoyed it, but I don't know that you have to see it in theaters. I'm not a fan of hip-hop/rap, but the acting and writing in this are really, really good. Plenty of laughs and an interesting plot that follows the "musician breaking into the industry" plot points but in interestingly different ways. I found myself surprised that I couldn't tell what was going to happen for the rest of the movie until the last 20 minutes or so. Usually I can tell what is going to happen in an entire movie by seeing a preview, or at least within the first 15 minutes.

Worth seeing, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see it in a theater. No impressive effects, etc.
