Tales of Vesperia for 360 Confirmed
In a Q&A with Namco Bandai's PR department, Famitsu has confirmed that the latest RPG in the "Tales of" series will be released for the Xbox 360. The game was announced last December at the Jump Festa event in Tokyo, and was at the time rumored to be for the Xbox 360. Now, we know it's a sure thing. With three previous "Tales of" games having been released on Sony platforms and one for the Gamecube, the Xbox 360 comes as a bit of a surprise. Namco Bandai say that the 360 is the only platform they've decided on so far, but "regarding other platforms, we're looking at all possibilities."
As for whether the game will be released in Japan for Xbox 360 as well, Namco Bandai says that's still up in the air, and their decision will be announced shortly.Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/359623/tales-of-vesperia-for-360-confirmed)
So it's for sure coming to the 360 in North America, possibly on other platforms as well... but not for sure on 360 in Japan?

What's with all the JRPGs on the 360. What's the point? The 360 crowd isn't exactly a JRPG loving crowd.

Can't say I speak for everyone, but there are a number of EvAvers who were into Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and now Lost Odyssey.
And I'm glad we're seeing JRPG support on the Xbox this generation, while it was pretty lax in the previous gen.

The Tales series is fantastic - it's good to see a new entry jumping onto the 360. Just another reason (among many) for me to eventually pick one up. :D

Not much of a fan of the Tales series myself, but it's good to see more RPGs coming. :)

Uh? If you're right, then Microsoft wants to expand the 360 audience and that's the point. If you're wrong - which I'm kind of leaning towards - then the point is obvious.
I enjoy the Tales games, sometimes. I'll definitely Gamefly it when it comes out, but we'll see just how much I play. I only hope it doesn't have continual loading issues like Tales of the Abyss did.

And it'll be on the PS3 less than a year later with 2 more playable characters, because that's how this works.

Well. Eternal Sonata must have done allright otherwise they wouldn´t go there I guess.
I bought my 360 not for the shooters and racers, but for Dead Rising and the anticpation of ES and Blue Dragon.
Great to see that JRPG´s are still alive and kicking.
I must say that Bandai Namco are quite a worthy companion for MS this generation. They release niche games with a small but dedicated fanbase. 360 even outsold PS3 in Japan when AC6 was released.

I know Eternal Sonata is coming to the PS3, but outside of that, a couple Dreamcast gems, and some classic titles, I can't think of many JRPGs that have hit multiple platforms.

ON the other hand, it won't be if they don't come out on it. There is ALWAYS a swing point when you see something on the system and say "you know what I want that"

And the PS3 crowd hates shooters, but they keep coming out.
Don't go with sterotypes, you evil European you!
I don't get why it isn't multiplatform, like in every other thread about japanese games being exclusive for free, it strikes me as stupid.

You just illustrated the main hurdle Microsoft has to leap with their 360. That's exactly the type of perception that they need to break.
One of the ways to break this is to introduce more JRPGS to the system. It's not exactly like they're flooded with JRPGS yet, ya know?
I know I'll be picking up this game on launch day.

Suck my taint, I can't! I don't have a working 360. I really don't want to buy another, and my funds are a little strapped right now. I've been trying to rationalize it, but I can't.
I WAS able to get Eternal Sonata to work on Sunday night, since the 360 does decide to work 1 time out of 1000 when I keep putting the disk in and out, in and out. I played for an hour or more until I had to put it away for dinner, and I was sucked back into the beautiful game world. The title isn't bad, but the one or two monsters per dungeon thing really stinks. Otherwise, the game is probably the most beautiful I've played on the 360. My girlfriend always comments on it when she sees me playing it, and she even sat down to watch me for a bit.
Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon will both be purchased once I get my 360 working again. It's cheaper for me just to get a new drive installed than to buy a new one. However, I've been trying to kill the thing for 2 weeks now (mine must be one of the few built like a horse!) and I'm afraid I might have done some hidden irreversible damage. Pay for a drive now, have it RRoD shortly thereafter. It sucks.
I have some giftcards that would bring the price of the Arcade down to around 100 bucks, but I'd rather use those for actual GAMES...seeing how I already bought a 360 once. In fact, it was built around this time (February) 2 years ago.

Dear Japan,
Notice that the 360 has Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, and now this. The PS3 has... Folklore? Seriously guys, why don't you want 360s at all?

I feel your pain. Frustrating.
I can't wait to have the scratch to pick up Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, and Lost Odyssey. It will probably be a while. Kids be 'spensive! :)

Well, they said they plan on it, anyway. They said they started on it on the 360 because they had the dev kits first.
Odd that it's not being released in Japan, though, that has to be a first.

I shied away from JRPGs on 360 after playing that stupid grid-based game with the super annoying characters, Enchanted Arms. I wholeheartedly plan on buying Eternal Sonata when it comes down in price (and as soon as my 360 comes back from being repaired. GO RROD!!), and as soon as I get some long blocks of time I will definately check out Lost Odyssey. I loved Tales of Symphonia, but I ended up hating Tales of the Abyss. Lets see what this game has to offer going forward. Vesperia is closer to Symphonia...was Legendia any good? Of course I also disliked Tales of Phantasia when it was rereleased on GBA...
Also...linking to Kotaku?? Does that mean the idiotic grudge that EA has had against Kotaku is over?

Odd that it's not being released in Japan, though, that has to be a first.I'm curious about this too. If they started developing on the 360 first, and maybe won't be releasing it for 360 in Japan (maybe on PS3 in Japan), does that mean it'll be developed first in English, and then localized for Japanese? That would definitely be different.
But if they are developing it for Japanese first, it would seem a waste to have a fully-functioning 360 version in Japanese, but not release it in Japan.

Legendia was okay, but I never bothered to play more than 10 hours of it -- I honestly don't remember what the story was about, and it wasn't that long ago since I stopped playing it. Combat system is more fun once you switch your default character to a swordsman, though.

I'd pass on Enchanted Arms, personally. Compared to ES and LO (and even BD, IMO) it really comes up short.
I just hope this trend continues. Of all the games out there, why aren't RPGs multiplatform? It's not like they'd be harder to port than say...a sports game, would they?

I would not pass on Enchanted Arms. I really enjoyed the story and the voice acting, and I liked the play mechanics. I aslo found some of the cutscenes and music to be breathtaking. Yes, I must be weird, but it had a big emotional impact on me.

Legendia was kinda weird in how it did its story - the dungeon design was terrible though.
And for those who haven't picked up Lost Odyssey, do yourself a favor and go buy it - I'm a few hours into it from yesterday & today and it has just been amazing so far.
