Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com) has posted a preview of Battle For Middle Earth II, complete with new media and game play footage.
The Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings motion pictures made novelist J.R.R. Tolkien's classic fantasy novels live again on the big screen. Last year, the team responsible for Command & Conquer: Generals brought the fantasy movies home in the form of an epic real-time strategy game. The team is now back working on a sequel, Battle for Middle-earth II, which will be built out with the full library of lore offered by Tolkien's novels now that publisher EA has secured the rights to the books to go with its movie license. In plain English, this means bigger fortresses, bigger battles, and more spectacular effects.
Go check out the preview here (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/battleformiddleearth2/preview_6130883.html).

I have to say the game looks absolutely amazing, even if you are not a LOTR fan.

I still haven't looked at the previews, but I already know I won't be able to pull the camera back further than being able to view a tiny percentage of the map. No ability to execute strategy = not a RTS. They should call these games RTT, for real-time tactics.

Seconded, GrinR. That said, this game does look quite impressive and as usual we will have to rely on the mini-map to execute our grandiose plans.

I swear they are equal parts Kohan and the Total War series for inspiration here.

better off if you're not a lotr fan, then you can't nitpick the character portrayals, or how anything differs from the story.

Remember the first BFME1 movies? Yeah, the game ended looking NOWHERE like them. An almost 3 year old engine can't do no good.

AoE3 on the other hand...

When we saw the first bfme game we were all geeked over the million dollar graphics. Then you play the game and it has 10 cent game play. I expect the same for this one, dont expect anything good from this game. And sadly this comes from a huge lord of the rings nerd.

Bfme1 has no strategy. Their are no tactics in that game at all, its just attack ground and hope for the best. In single player you dont even need an army if you are good with gandalf. Just get him to level 10 or what ever, do the super staff thingy and it kills 1000 units. I would end most games with gandalf having around 2k kills. If anyone's considering buying this game at least read the reviews first, but hey bfme1 got solid reviews just for the graphics, but game play wise it was crap.

If you want a good rts stick with Rome total war, wc3, dawn of war or wait until AOE3 comes out. Those games actually have some strategy.

For the record, I miss Red Alert 2 (& Yuri)
