View Full Version : Pure Evil - Call for Donations

I'm getting ready to pay for the hosting costs for Evil Avatar.com for the next six months (Around $600.00). If anyone would like to contribute to this expense, please use the "Donate Today" button on the left side of the page. No amount is too small and I really appreciate any help you can give to cover these costs.
Totally off the topic of donations, I was bitten 4 times on Friday night by a black widow spider. I went to get some documents out of a pass-through trap and the little sucker climbed under my watch and just kept chomping away at me till the "itching" got so bad I took my watch off... and there he was.
Now three days later and it still hurts... a lot. I don't recommend it as a party activity, but at least it makes for interesting conversation.

No, it didn't glow in the dark. But, the phrases I uttered to describe the situation may have made my partner's ears blush.

I'll be donating this month, too. I just received another royalty check for a novel I published a couple years ago.

Are we talking spider-black widow, or sexy, red headed Marvel supervillain black widow, because seriously, I probably wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers, or my wrist.
EDIT: re: black widow: OW! i actually thought they were deadly?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_widow
They can be, but it's pretty rare apparently. Judging by the description of symptoms on Wikipedia it sounds like Evil has his spiders confused.
"[stuff about how the toxin spreads]. Most strongly affected are back, abdomen, and thigh muscle areas. The venom acts at the nerve ends to prevent relaxation of the muscle, causing tetany - or constant, strong, painful contractions of the muscles. Standard treatments usually involve symptomatic therapy with pain medication, muscle relaxants, and, rarely, antivenin. The venom does not typically cause problems at the bite site itself, unless a secondary skin infection occurs."

You have seen a doctor about this right. Neurotoxic venoms can cause you health problems even if they do not cause death. You need an anti-toxin even if you are only experiencing pain.

Sometimes anti-venom makes things worse. There was a kid like 4 or 5 years old in Orlando a couple months back that got bit something like 6 or 7 times by a black widow. The doctors decided not to risk giving him the anti-venom because apparently the amount they needed to give him, and due to the child's young age, they actually ran the risk of his heart seizing. So they waited it out for the night and the kid actually pulled through.
Oh yeah, and second that on the brown recluse being worse. I'm not afraid of spiders, but damn am I afraid of getting bit by one of those. Also I should be able to make a donation here soon, provided these guys I'm freelancing for actually hire me fulltime like they say they're going to.

If you want to skip dinner tonight, go look up photos of brown recluse bites. Worse than a horror movie. I found one in my apartment once - I was paranoid for weeks afterwards.
Get better. I hope the spider bites don't affect you too much.

He's the Den Mother? Well, he does bake cookies, talks in a high pitched, womanly tone, and wears skirts, so who knows. Maybe that would be a good title for him.

Yeah but I think that Mario Sunshine and Paper Mario 2 are the best games ever made... not sure if you need anymore Nintendo fanboys on the site ;) Will try to contribute more if I can think interesting thoughts ! Thanks for encouragement. You also have to keep in mind that shy people don't necessarily like to post on such well read sites ! Personally, as an old fart (ie: 35) I find posting/responding to be tiring at times... It's getting harder to find gamers really "analyzing" games, so congrats to most contributers.

I've always been pretty shy and most sites I visited in the past, I just read the tripe of others, refusing to respond with my own words. But here I found out I can just be myself and post almost whatever I want, your opinions and views might get slammed but there are others with basically the same ideas to join or defend you. That words like fuck and shit dont get censored out makes it even better. Anger with asterisks really doesnt come off very well. And here at EvAv, we get angry and fired up quite frequently. We are all a diverse group of gamers, from fanboys to all-inclusives, imbeciles to brainiacs, instigators to defenders. You'll find yourself falling into a niche group after a few short posts. That's why I can make fun of guys like Kefkataran and not worry about him getting mad. Plus, he has a crush on me, so I have sway over the dork.

Donation will be forthcoming tomorrow when I (hopefully) find my wallet. I love this site and will happily donate whenever I can to ensure that everyone here still has somewhere to get their gaming news (with attitude). Sorry about the bite(s), Evil - keep an eye on them in case they get infected.
Funnily enough, I was bitten by a jumping spider yesterday while mowing my front lawn - fever, vomiting, etc. were what I had to put up with Sunday night and today. Got a steroid injection this afternoon from my doctor and am taking Benadryl.
Don't suppose anyone here has seen my wallet and car keys lying around...??

Thanks for all the well-wishing. I saw our nurse on Saturday night and I went to the Doctor today and they both said the same thing... unless things get worse there isn't much they can do. So, I'm mildly annoyed at the pain, but I'm not feeling sick or anything.

There has never been a documented case of death as a result of a spider bite. It is highly suspected that it has happened. What are at risk from prolonged or multiple exposures to these toxins are damaged nerves and tissue. This is especially true in the case of the Brown Recluse, whose cocktail of vemon ingrediants can cause a disease in which White Blood cells mistakeningly attack muscle tissue.
Generally speaking, there is not much risk of death via a spider bite. Only those who are risk of deth from any negative stimuli need fear, and to worry over one risk is silly. A bad bite on an extremity, such as your hand or foot, can result in more harmful tissue damage. Also, a bite placed onto an artery (Discovery channel once had a man who was bitten on the chest, just above his aeorta) is obviously more serious.
Why do I know this? because I am scared shittless of spiders. So much so that I will not be wearing a watch for the next few days. I was assured if I learned more about them I would find out they aren't that bad. Guess that? I was wrong. They are terribly, horrific monsterous creatures. Evil - drink lots of juice and water, you want to flush any infected waste from your system as soon as you can. If you develop a fever see a physician again. Simple bayer should be enough for any muscle pain

Same here. I get to play geek here because I am so deprived of these conversations in everyday life. No one I know plays games, barring the occasional racing game or Madden. Sometimes a friend or relative will walk in on me playing an RPG and look at me like I'm a leper; they dont understand it. So i come here and I squeeze out my geek juice into the forums because it gets built up inside of me with no one outside of EvAv for me to talk to about games. My Gmail inbox is also a source of glee when I see replies to posts, which gives me a way to catch up on topics even when I've been working all day.
I donated 16.66, not just because I'm an asshole, but because I thought I'd put a little "Evil" into the donating game.

Not yet. While we do have advertising, I keep the ad rates very very low so that we are competetive with the big corporate sites.
I would love to work on the page full time and I think that could happen in the future, but I work full time just like everyone else.
Our hosting costs are 100% supported by reader donations, keep those donations coming we have a huge bill due this September to go with the new server.

I figured that was the case after seeing his glowing praise for Crysis on the PS3 over on the Weekly Release page.
Can you ban other people for being idiots? I have a list...

I would but it would probably crash the internet. I don't think my ISP would like me sending a terabyte text file.

As this is my 1000th post, I would like to say thank you for the Evil Avatar community for welcoming me, and accepting me in the few shorts months I have been here. I have made some fantastic friends, talked about a smorgasbord of topics, and generally had a kick ass time. From the podcast to the forums, this is an amazing site, and hope it never changes. I'd like to say a big thanks to all the reds, for doing what they do best.
Also, come next Friday (I get paid) $100 will be contributed towards this fantastic site.

Hey, Sexychalk. What colour will you get your name to be with your $100 donation?
I would demand a polka-dot coloured name if I were you.

Donated $50.00. I don't post much, but I visit the site about 5 or 10x a day. $50 is cheap when I think of the hundreds of hours that EA has entertained, informed and disgusted me.
Question: any perks for donating? My Paypal address is different from the address I registered here with, so that might confuse things. Enlighten me, please!
Edit: Ah, I see I now have "subscriber" underneath my username. Tasty.

And you can now go into your profile and change that title to whatever you want.
May I suggest, 'Spigot's #1 Fan'?

Good call, thanks for the heads-up. I didn't take your title suggestion, but out of appreciation, I'll change my cat's name from Pardalis to Spiggy. The vicious little muffin was getting delusions of grandeur anyways. He needs to be taken down a peg or two.

Thank you for the donation, haleck. It's much appreciated and always great knowing that we have people checking out and enjoying the site even if they don't post much.

I feel honoured... wait a minute, did you say, taken down a peg or two?
Sheesh.
