And it doesn't look to be a port, either. According to the story from TeamXbox (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/15712/Vigilante-8-Arcade-Coming-to-Xbox-Live-Arcade/) it's a remake of the original game. Licensed and developed by Isopod Labs, Vigilante 8: Arcade is an all new remake of the original game, featuring online play with up to eight players and a host of new content, taking full advantage of next-generation technologies.

The only thing I remember from the original was that it wowed the fuck out of me when I could pause the game, take out the disc, and then put in any music CD and play the game with my own music. That and I also think one of the sequels had a DeLorean knock off in it.

Holy shit. Best news I've heard in a week. It's probably a lot worse than I remember it...

A Twisted Metal clone, that was way better than Twisted Metal, imo.

A better Twisted Metal than Twisted Metal, unless all TM meant to you was the juvenile characters/cars, in which case, you'll have to suck Jaffe's teet for his next installment of "Evil Clown Cars with Sloshy Controls, Firing Sloshy Projectiles".

Good news indeed.

This could be good or bad...sure it was fun back in the day, but you know what else was fun back in the day? Disco. And we all know how that turns out when someone tries to bring it back.

I liked the concept, but the physics in these games were really harsh. You go up a hill, and end up bouncing for a while, and not just "Hey Holmes, look at my new Hydraulics" bouncing, but Sonic, stop hitting all those damn bumpers bouncing.

TRASH CAN!

THE HOUSE WINS!

I've been seriously considering a purchase of Twisted Metal: Head-On for PS2, but I'd mostly just be playing that by myself. I think I'll hold out for this Vigilante 8 remake for my car combat fix. The article says we can expect it "this spring." Who knows when that'll be, but it can't come soon enough.

I still have Vigilante 8: Second offense for N64. That game was so much fun.

Vigalintee 8 had guns that could track targets, and front fire guns. It was a console spin off of Interstate '76.

The ads were big about having the bus.

Sometime between "last winter" and "this summer".

I played the hell out of these on the Dreamcast... I really hope they don't dumb it down to make it more "arcade-friendly" like they did with Wing Commander, that would break my heart. If they keep it more or less intact, my points will be very well spent.

(My favorite was always the garbage truck. The special attack just felt very satisfying to me. :D )

Just picked up Twisted Metal Head On for the PS2 (sold the PSP version a while ago), so I'm in the mood for car combat. I actually forgot how fun it was.

Wow, amazing news. I've been asking for a remake for months and I've been hoping someone would shut me up.

I think I heard a rumor about this a few months back, but it's nice to hear it's a sure thing. This should be the best thing on XBLA next to Rez.

I don't know a thing about this game, as I said before, but if it looks like games such as Disks of Tron, I'll be staying far, far away.

I'm not interested in super-old-ass games.

It was crap. It was a dumbed down console version of Interstate '76. Now, if they want to bring back Interstate '76, I would be impressed. I'm not impressed with failure knock-offs.

It's about 10 years old, car combat like Twisted Metal. Very fun, and if they remake it, it should look really decent as well.

When I first read it I was confusing it with Interstate.

Then I remembered it was a bit like Twisted Metal but the maps were a bit boring.

I'd like Interstate 76 more, but I will give the demo a try.

I never played it myself, but that's mostly because I didn't even try a car combat game until Twisted Metal Black (then fell in love with it, of course).

I'd say possibly bigger news is that Japan is getting Panzer Dragoon Orta (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/02/14/japan-rates-panzer-dragoon-orta-for-xbox-originals/), so that may see the light of day here as well.

If I remember correctly Twisted Metal Black had inferior maps to the earlier games in the series.

My personal favorite was Twisted Metal: World Tour on the PS1. Nothing better than blasting off the top of the Eifel Tower on the Paris map. The Rooftop maps also were a blast.

Edit: Somehow never got to play the Panzer Dragoon games except for a demo. Is Orta the one with the RPG elements?

It did? I probably didn't notice since it was the first game in the series I really played.

Orta is more of a straight on rails shooter, the RPG you're probably thinking of is the Saturn game Panzer Dragoon Saga.

No, Orta is the Xbox version of Panzer Dragoon.

Panzer Dragoon Saga for the Saturn is one that had RPG elements.

Yeah that's the one I meant. Was pretty interested in it but it got delayed over here and by the time it came out the Saturn was pretty much dead in the water.

This and Shining Force 3 are the lost games of that generation for me :(

Very odd timing, as I remember someone earlier this week commented that they wanted a remake...dsfreak87, was that you? Witch! Witch! Burn 'em! :p

I have fond memories of the first one. The crater maker projectile was awesome. It was amazing at the time that a weapon (besides explosions) actually had an effect on the environment. Plus everything was destructible. I also remember unlocking a UFO?

Aside from that, the characters were lame and the plot sucked. The lead "bad guy" was a joke as was his special. TM had the better setting, story, and characters. Not to mention, TMB had the best arenas by far (destructive ferris wheel of doom). I loved how the hidden characters were actually hidden in the stages. I bought Heads-On, as I don't own a PSP, and I'm looking forward to playing it.

I hope the news from this thread (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58880) doesn't affect this game.

I check the developer's blog (http://www.v8arcade.com/blog/) and (as of July 7th) they say:

We’re happy to announce that the game is finished! We continue putting final touches on the DLC, to be released about four weeks following the launch, and creating various web banners and additional PR materials to go with it.

The game is currently undergoing final QA sweep and we expect an official submission to Microsoft take place very soon. Once the game is approved by Microsoft, they will inform us of a release date, which we will be posting here as soon as we get the word.

Spyro? For the sake of fuck...
