CNN/Money's QuakeCon 2005 coverage (http://money.cnn.com/2005/08/12/commentary/game_over/column_gaming/) continues with a look at the fan devotion and (arguably) insanity at nVidia's how far would you go event. A taste of the fun:

One male fan agreed to shave his legs. Not a fun task to begin with, but in his excitement to claim another of those $550 cards, he neglected to pour any water on his legs, simply lathering them up quickly (and poorly) and then running the razor against the grain. It hurt to watch, folks. A lot.

Though, it's not a bad price to pay for a $550 card... shaving your legs, without the searing pain of course.

Shaving your face is much harder then your legs guys. It's not that complicated. Your face has many many grooves, with hairs that are super thick. Your legs are long smooth surfaces with very thin hairs. I'd shave my legs for $10.

If someone severed their own head for one I am going on recored as saying that is WAY more crazy then paying $500.
