Also known as Bunny Muslims, what a crock. That's pathetic though, inbreeding wouldn't cause birth defects and disease.

Uhhh.. acutally it does cause defects and disease. Check out the would you eat food/drink milk from a cloned animal, for more information on that subject.

Shouldn't talk about yourself that way.
Someone take a screen cap of the ads during this thread. I am getting a very hilarious ad for Muslim Singles, irorny. There are plenty of studies that say imbreeding doesn't cause damage as well. I have learned not to listen to science at all. One year blueberries are good and high in antioxidants next year they will find out it has a chemical that makes you blind.

Don't insult Aggort like that. They take incest very seriously in his family. :D
I thought the defect argument came from a lack of genetic diversity between family members?

I thought the defect argument came from a lack of genetic diversity between family members?
A lot of it is variation in genetic material between parents makes the chance of resistance to a certain disease mroe likely. If both parents have similar genetic material, disease resistance is less likely and if there are any weaknesses to a particular disease, then the child will become more likely to get it if both parents give genes with a weakness to it.

It just means that you have a better chance of passing on recessive genes in a homozygous manor, and if the recessive gene is bad for you it can cause things like defects to manifest themselves instead of not showing up because the dominant gene beats it out.
If that isn't clear I guess I can try explaining it better.

Best ten-post sum-up ever.
How does the government get figures on stuff like that? Do they poll for incest now? Who answers honestly?

I actually had to argue this with a coworker once (Indian-Muslim) about the dangers of having children with your first cousin. He claimed all the evidence I produced was "bullshit".
Medical research suggests that while British Pakistanis are responsible for 3% of all births, they account for one in three British children born with genetic illnesses.
Can't wait to throw this one in his face tomorrow.

How many children born with genetic illness does that equate to...five? :D
Risk...it's so dangerous! We're all related, it's just a question of how closely and whether we carry the same genetic predispositions toward certain diseases, which when replicated in both parents can lead to some pretty funky, and potentially devastating, results in children.
Let them do what they want to do, as long as they don't dump their medical bills on the taxpayers.
Oh, wait...
