That new gun seems oldly out of place with the setting. I hope you can only aquire it after beating the game and getting to play through it again with better hardware.

And all because of this worthless sentence:
"The texture work feels decidedly PS1."
I mean that sentence feels dicidedly like that of an angry N fanboy who just cant take the fact that RE4 is also released on the PS2 (as old as the hardware is right now). However at least they release RE4 with true anamorphic widescreen on the PS2 instead of the lame letterboxed mode on the Cube which they used to reduce the vertical resolution so the framerate doesnt get too choppy on the "superior" gamecube hardware, LOL

Seriously, grow up. At least the first post was about technical merits alone. You seem to be unable to make any post without throwing around insults like a little kid.
Anyways, if the screenshots are any indication as to how the final game will look, the game does look significantly better on the GC than it will look on the PS2. But then again, pretty much any cross-platform title looks the worst on the PS2, so there is no real surprise there.
RE4 is a great game. If only Nintendo could get more games like that pushed out the door.

I'm in an even better situation. After beating GC RE4 2 times I WILL buy and beat the PS2 version because it has, *gasp* - new content and you can't beat that.
I couldn't care less about graphical details - all console games look like crap next to my PC games but I don't play them for graphics in the first place so I learned to live with it.

Sorry but I own all three consoles and beat RE4 on the cube (one of the very few cube games by the way that was worth it to fire up the cube again and I think thats the reason why all these N fanboys react quite hostile and distressed about the fact that their holy grail is comming to PS2 (not to think about the next installement in the series that avoids the Revolution completely, lol).
Seriously, grow up. At least the first post was about technical merits alone. You seem to be unable to make any post without throwing around insults like a little kid.
techincal merits alone. sorry but you are quite a joker. read his post again the tone and all... Writing weak shit like "PS1 textures". sorry his post was cheap and he got what he deserved...
by the way you are talking about technical merits. Why did you ignore the fact then that RE4 on PS2 is in widescreen and thus featuring a higher vertical resolution compared to the Cube version which was in letterbox format which almost halfed the normal vertical resolution (guess they had to do that in order to keep the framerate up). There you have it....
Anyways, if the screenshots are any indication as to how the final game will look, the game does look significantly better on the GC than it will look on the PS2.
Hahaha. Significantly is defintiely overexaggerated. (and remember the widescreen)
It does look better on the Cube, which makes YOU the fanboy if you even argue against it. And to laugh when someone points out which hardware is superior- it's fairly common knowledge that Xbox > Gamecube > PS2 when it comes to pure hardware performance.

Dude... it was made by Capcom. You don't really need to worry about "supporting the dev." Go buy a few copies of Psychonaughts or somthing.
Oh, and to the stupid Sony-bitch who has been filling this post with his keyboard vomit: Get a clue, if you only own the PS2 then you are gaming on inferior hardware. Either accept it, or get new hardware.
Looks like crap and I'm no Nintendo fanboy. I've got all (and I mean ALL) systems and play PC games too and it looks like crap compared to the GC version.
And YES, the graphics DO make a difference. The graphics are one of the draws to the damn'd game to begin with! One of the reasons people are willing to overlook the TONS OF BUGS in the game is because of how it looks.
Take away the pretty and I'm going to start noticing everytime the camera goes through a wall, characters clip through each other, AI that's stupidly standing around, waiting to be woken up or walking into each other and of course, the ever-obscure room that's clearly just some designers trap room and has no place in any real building.
I still love the game and its one of my favs from last year, but lets ALL stop being fanboys.

I'm going to sound like a fat nerd here, but it's not a plasma gun. It's a laser. And if you actually played the GameCube version there is a perfectly good reason for it being a laser. Plus, it fits perfectly into the setting. Play the second disc in the GameCube version, and you'll see.

Let's get to the real difference between the PS2 and the Gamecube version: slowdown. I only worry because I can't remember a single slowdown point when I played through the GC version, but Colosseum, a game with less graphics than RE4, has some significant slowdown, and it hurts the gameplay. Other than that, new weapons sounds good. Won't be buying the same game twice though.

Here's some basic points -
Game doesn't look as good as Cube
Game plays the same, which is great, because the game is awesome
Game has a LASER GUN
There will be people buying the game for the express opportunity of firing the LASER GUN
Some people like Nintendo, some people like Sony
Few people like Microsoft
That is all ;)

The shots look great, and it is excellent that this awesome game can be enjoyed by those who don't have or don't plan to get a Cube. The graphical difference appears to be marginal at best (not too surprising considering this game was originally designed and destined for the PS2, before that idea got nixed)
If you have both a Cube and PS2 and don't care for the new ps2 version's content, get the Cube version and enjoy.
If have a PS2 only, enjoy this great game, it kicks ass.

Unless your looking at them on 14" monitor you should be able to see that.

I dont like to think of the PS2 as inferior hardware. I dont think of the PS1 right now as inferior hardware. Inferior is a word that has a negative connotation. You could say that yes, the PS2 components arent as up-to-date as Xbox's (then again, the PS2 came out before the Xbox...a couple years more if you count Japan, almost) but that doesnt really mean anything, does it? It still continues to spit out quality games, despite the restrictions of the system's capabilities.
Calling the PS2 inferior now would be like calling the Xbox 360 inferior in March '05.

Dude. I've pretty much allowed your one-sided views slip by in the past (I am a Sony fan, too, but not a fanboy) but to say that the PS2 looks better than the GC version means you havent seen the GC version. I bet the PS2 version looks good in motion...but it cant compete with it's GC counterpart.
If you call the PS2 RE4 prettier than the GC version, you'll just stir up the hornets nest in this thread once more. People are pretty touchy about their console loyalties. They wont always admit it, but they're there and obvious to everyone else.

Here is a great idea for everyone who wants to play this game but does not have a GameCube.
Don't settle for the PS2 version. Buy a used GameCube (http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/216617.asp) ($59.99) and a copy of Resident Evil 4 (http://www.computers4sure.com/product.asp?productid=2655909&affid=10000483) ($37.95). When done with the game, trade them back in or sell them on eBay. You'll get more than $60 for the pair. Total cost will be cheaper than buying Resident Evil 4 for the Playstation and playing the full-quality original is PRICELESS!
Save Money + Play Best Version of RE4 = Smart Move!

"not too surprising considering this game was originally designed and destined for the PS2, before that idea got nixed)"
Actually, it never left the planning stages before Nintendo secured GameCube "exclusivity".
The early version, which was totally scrapped in favor of the more action-oriented, dynamic camera version that was released, was built from the ground up for GameCube as well.
I'm moderately interested in what bonuses might be included in the PS2 version, but honestly I find it a bit painful looking at those screenshots. I don't really care about widescreen cause I don't have a widescreen television. So really all I see is worse textures, and lack of anti-aliasing, which in my opinion made the GameCube version.
Either way, it's an excellent game and I'm looking forward to RE5 (in fact it's the only game announced for PS3/360 that interests me thus far).

Yep. Got the story, thanks (Read some stuff with Shinji Mikami)
The early version, which was totally scrapped in favor of the more action-oriented, dynamic camera version that was released, was built from the ground up for GameCube as well.
The early version became Devil May Cry interestingly enough.
I'm moderately interested in what bonuses might be included in the PS2 version, but honestly I find it a bit painful looking at those screenshots. I can certainly understand that, but this is a version for those who don't or would otherwise never own a Cube. The Cube wins with it's filtering, but honestly, the game doesn't look anywhere near as bad as some are claiming. On the PS2 side this is helped by the lack of "vibrant" settings, everything is in the same rusty palette, something the venerable PS2 can make do with. To me anyway, it looks *way* better then I expected. I'm tempted to pick this one up now, not only for the new content but for comparisons :)
Either way, it's an excellent game and I'm looking forward to RE5 (in fact it's the only game announced for PS3/360 that interests me thus far).
I'm with you on that one, it's an awesome game, one of the shining reasons that makes owning a Cube a necessity. But now the PS2 folks can get a crack at it, and I think it's fair they can enjoy it too. Mikami was burned, but that's another story (I think Capcom is looking out for it's own interests as well, and PS2 is where the money is at, for this last generation). RE5 will likely be a must-have for either PS3/360 :)
