Gamegossip (http://gamegossip.com/) has the posted (http://gamegossip.com/pressrelease.php?id=14380) Midway's official announcement for Rampage: Total Destruction. The title is being developed for the PS2 and GC systems and is slated to ship in the spring of 2006 for an MSRP of $19.95.

Screenshots of the game can be seen here. (http://www.gamegossip.com/comment.php?id=14381)

Here's a bit about the new title from the press release.
Rampage: Total Destruction offers a fresh take on an arcade classic complete with everyone's favorite monsters: George, Lizzie, and Ralph, along with a variety of new monsters to collect and play. Virtually everything in the environment can be damaged, broken, and utterly destroyed with plenty of hilarious results. Aided by power-ups, the Rampage: Total Destruction monsters are capable of acquiring a number of upgrades throughout the course of a single campaign. Players can annihilate cities all over the world in either one or two player mode in this reinvention of the Midway classic.

Thanks to kathode for pointing out the screenshots.

No Xbox version?

No XBOX version indeed - which is extremely odd considering they are putting it out on the GC. Perhaps it is because the 360 will have been out for half a year already.

The screenshots (http://www.gamegossip.com/comment.php?id=14381) look rather cheesy to me, unfortunately.

Lizzy doesn't really look much like a mutant lizard any more. At best she looks like Kermit the Frog's unruly older cousin, which isn't terribly intimidating.

I was dissapointed by Rampage's last few iterations (sorry, but Rampage through time sucks, period). Here's hoping the game gets the ole Rampage magic back! (Fat chance).

Why not a tactical squad-based shooter where you're fighting the Rampage monsters? You could make it very realistic a la Brothers in Arms, except for the goofy monsters who cartoonishly eat and fart and smash.

Hell, I'd buy it.

I like that idea, Kizke. It is not very Rampage though. I say make it its own thing! The game should have a bonus level with old Godzilla footage of Japanese business men shouting, "Godzillaaaaa!" Then you would eat them. That'd kick ass.

I think there needs to be more comedy in games... At least SOME games.

Japanese business men shouting, "Godzillaaaaa!" Then you would eat them. That'd kick ass.Well if you want to be really accurate and supremely funny you'd have them screaming go-JI-ra. "Ahhh! Gojiraaaaaa!" and then stick in Ultraman somewhere.....

What was Ultraman's deal anyway? Seemed like a prick.

Maybe it was his lame ass costume? It is hard to be a respectable superhero with a get-up like that.

No wait! It was his lame ass game! Remember it? It was on the Snes. It sucked. Though it was challengin and I beat it. Granted I was 10 when I beat it so it could've been easy. Doesn't matter, the game was ass.

they should make it like the Lungfishopolis level in Psychonauts. GOGGLOR!

That game reminds me that even though life may get horrible at times, there's always Tim Schafer to make something genuinely good for the world.

Hrm, thanks for the recommendation.

Really throws me that this Rampage isn't an Xbox title as well.

I'm sure an Xbox version will be announced down the road, but jesus, at least the Cube gets this title, Nintendo's console deserves a break every once in a while. Midway isn't the best developer out there, but at least their recent stuff has been consistent, and they're finally putting something on the Cube rather then their Arcade Collections.

Just to let anyone know who missed it, this new title is developed by Pipeworks....of Godzilla: DAMM fame.

YES! I'm totally psyched about this! I can't wait! I loved Rampage on N64, and I look forward to loving this new one. As long as it doesn't suck...

This game looks suprisingly good. I was afraid they'd go for the topdown perspective like the Godzilla Melee game.

There are only three to my knowledge: Rampage, Rampage WDT, and Rampage through time. And the last one may have PSone exclusive. Who knows? Most Rampage games (except the very first classic) weren't exactly amazing, so who knows?
