What's that? The sound of voices crying out? Huckabee takes West Virgina! (http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02/05/super.gop/index.html) I know, not much of a surprise to the people that predicted the strong bible-belt showing.

After two rounds of voting, Huckabee had 567 votes, followed by ex-Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 521 votes and Arizona Sen. John McCain with 12 votes. Texas Rep. Ron Paul was eliminated in earlier voting.

The first win of the nation's 21 GOP contests Tuesday brought Huckabee's delegate total to 47, still far short of the required 1,191 for his party's nomination.

Many of you know my feelings about the guy already. Discuss!

I wanted to vote today, but I've been in class all day. :(

And Huckabee won? God, my state voted Bush twice in a row and now they are liking this guy's jib? sigh...

I was rooting for McCain.

As for Huckabee, I'm not a fan. Not because of his religious affliation or his need to remind everyone about his religion over and over again, I just think his ideas are a bit far-fetched and unlikely to go well with congress. Even if Mike is sincere about the Fair Tax, destroying the IRS, and sending AIDS victims to some far away island (yes, I'm embellishing a bit here), would these plans have any way of succeeding? Are they even good ideas? Dunno, he just doesn't seem very grounded in reality to me.

Actually, Romney won initially, but no one had a majority, so they took Ron Paul (weakest showing) off the ballot (http://www.wboy.com/story.cfm?func=viewstory&storyid=34426), seems like all of Ron Paul's support went to Huckabee, in what can only be an attempt to prompt a brokered convention.

Ron Paul Supporters don't seem the type to have Huckabee as a backup. Also, McCain sent his supporters to Huckabee since he wasn't competitive, in a bid to keep Romney out using Huckabee as a stalking horse.

Compare the first tally above, with final tally here (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#WV).

This was the best kind of politics that you only see when it's not a two candidate/party race. The switch in second round was awesome and Romney's complaints sound suspiciously like the "whining" he accused of Huckabee.

Awesome! It was a screw job. Huckabee must be delighted.

To be honest, I don't quite see how Romney mentioning the McCain/Huckabee deal as an example of Washington insider politics that he won't be susceptible to, equates to Huckabbe claiming Romney is trying to engage in voter suppresion by telling people not to vote for him...

Yeah, I'm just not looking forward to him pointing to West Virginia time and time again in the future, as proof he can win the nomination.

"Unfortunately, this is what Senator McCain's inside Washington ways look like: he cut a back-room deal with the tax-and-spend candidate he thought could best stop Governor Romney's campaign of conservative change,” Myers said. “Governor Romney had enough respect for the Republican voters of West Virginia to make an appeal to them about the future of the party based on issues. This is why he led on today's first ballot. Sadly, Senator McCain cut a Washington back-room deal in a way that once again underscores his legacy of working against Republicans who are interested in championing conservative policies and rebuilding the party."

Fair enough. It's fun to watch the BS get spun though, ain't it?

Eww, Huckabee is the worst, the absolute worst, of all of the current contenders.

So 576 votes is a win? Out of how many millions of voters in WV? Who gets to vote in these things? It really doesn't make any sense to me.

I wouldn't worry torrefaction, he's only slightly more electable than Ron Paul. He won't be the nominee.

So if Colbert Made Huckabee, Conan Made Colbert, and Stewart Made Conan...

So if Colbert Made Huckabee, Conan Made Colbert, and Stewart Made Conan...

"Then by the transitive property of Huckabee, I am John McCain."

Seriously, I see little problem with Huckabee. Do i agree with his social agenda? No. But I do agree with his economic agenda. He has a fine track record in that regard. (read up on the fair tax...it may sound far fetched, but its actually very good and quite reasonable to enact) And we as Americans have become very complacent, expecting a perfect candidate to do everything for us exactly as we want...that will never happen, and it was not the intent when the founding fathers wrote the constitution. When the people don't like something, they stand up and stop it. Look what happened last year when McCain tried to get that near-amnesty bill passed through congress...it got smacked down by an overwhelming negative response from citizens. In my mind, bad proposed social reforms are a lot easier for us to stop than bad economic reforms, so i'll take Huckabee over someone with bad economic ideas any day.

As for Romney, he comes off as a smooth-talking used car salesman. But to be direct, he has been unable to get along with any candidate in this race. He started all of the negativity, and if you will notice, every other republican candidate respects one another, and they all get along well. They support and speak well of each other, and disagree in a civil manner. Romney is the only one who has made enemies of every competitor...now what does this say for his abilities to work together with congress (republican or democrat), with advisors, or with foreign leaders to benefit our country? Not a hell of a lot, IMO.

I'm not voting for him unless Chuck Norris is his running mate.
Screw endorsements, I wanna see some diplomats get roundhouse kicked.
