I was playing some Halo 3 up until just a minute ago, and I had my first troll encounter on a voice-communication basis. I've been made fun of and picked on all my life and I had made a decision not to be bothered by it all, but this incident just sent me over the edge and now I'm in a maddening rage not unlike the release of repressed anger in Waterboy.

A bunch of people on MY TEAM (three of them) started calling me "fag" "dick" "asshole" and "loser" right from the moment they noticed I had been matched with them--before I had started talking, they had all decided to pick on me and me alone.

That would have been bad enough.

But then, afterwards, EACH OF THE THREE SENT ME A SEPARATE MESSAGE CONTAINING NOTHING BUT CUSSWORDS AND INSULTS.

That's what sent me flying off the handle.

And consequently, I needed a place to vent.

Expect a song written soon in the Writer's Guild concerning my thoughts about it... I feel one coming on.

I really wouldn't worry about these types of people. If you react thats what gets these people going. Just play the game if they're being that annoying then quit and move on, but make sure you put them on the avoid list. This has happened to me a few times and if you ignore them and dont say a word they get tired of the non reaction and just bitch b/w themselves. Or the easiest way is to mute them. Just dont let it get to you cuz well then "they won". And kids wonder why we hate playing with them or why they have the stereotype that they have?!

That won't do much. On the other hand, filing a complaint can get them banned. Make sure you don't delete the voice messages they sent you. MS uses an evidence based model, and a single complaint with a corroborating voice message can be enough for them to take action.

Anyways, I understand. But that's what avoiding players and the ability to file complaints for. Idiots are out there. I not once but twice had someone (the second time it was 2 people) insult my dead mother (who I made aware had passed) and throughout the entire game paraded it and said many very vulgar and distasteful things you wouldn't believe regarding her. Some people are absolute pieces of shit that have no decency or worth whatsoever that hide behind a mic and TV screen because they can get away with it knowing that no one will kick their asses. Just mute, file complaint, and what else can you do? Fuck them. I'm not letting some apathetic idiot with an obviously meaningless existence and an IQ of 2 ruin my day. I mean, it's not worth it. They don't know any better.

But I do agree that these online systems should have a better system for tracking these people, proving their offenses, and giving them punishment. There's NO place for that bullshit.

Rule of thumb regarding gaming with idiots: don't share your personal life with them. Hell, that goes for just about anyone other than friends you trust. Why would you share that with strangers? You're only giving them fodder for additional attacks. Likely, had you not told them about your mother, they would've been bored at your lack of response and moved on.
