TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com/) has posted new screenshots and a trailer (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/8963/WarDevil-New-Trailer-and-Screenshots/) of WarDevil for your drooling pleasure. The title is being developed for the PS3 and Xbox360.
Here's a bit about the game...
The first RTE1080 Teaser demonstrates the engine's cinematic look & feel - the aim is to create movie like in game material (in real time & in the highest HD resolution 1920x1080).
WarDevil is the premiere project for the Digi-Guys Studio. Currently in production, WarDevil is both a Motion Picture Project and a Videogame. The project is designed to be at the cutting technological edge - in terms of storytelling, cinematic feel & gameplay.
No release date information has been released as of yet but the official site for the game can be viewed here. (http://www.wardevil.com/)
That is just stunning!

The visual quality in that video is amazing. It's really weird to hear stock sound effects in it, though. I have heard those weird creature noises in Dungeon Siege and in a tech demo from Crytek. I heard a few mechanical sounds from Total Annihilation in there, too.
When I bought the game Fire Warrior (I knew what I was getting into, but I like Warhammer 40k), I learned to appreciate good sound effects (because Fire Warrior had none). They must be hard both to make and find.

Now I could have sworn I saw this a few months back. Real-time is juggled around, but is any of that really?

Wow, that looks amazing! But when I hear the developers say they want to create a Movie-like ingame experience, I have to say good luck. The next gen does not let you do any new genres of gameplay. Nor does it let the user have a new camera viewpoint that isn't available now. It only does what we can already do, but in higher resolution with better graphics. This stronger machine does not similarly turbocharge the creativity of the developer. They are still going to be stuck in either first person or third person camera view. We are still basically playing the same games we were on the PS1 and the N64 except with higher polycounts and better textures. Aren't we? So this new generation is going to look great but I hope that the developers have some new ideas because, I hate to tell you this but, we already have games where you shoot robots, or robots shoot you. It's been done. And this is just the same thing.
What do you think?

I personally think this looks GREAT. If they can make it work, AWESOME! If not, I won't be shocked. Actually I won't be shocked if they pull it off. I'm too caloused.
But what I REALLY think games need is a REAL physics engine break through. Games have had the same crappy physics engines for over 10 years. It's time we move on. The hardware is in place and the capability is there. Why don't we have deformable EVERYTHING in games now, just like in "real life" (whatever THAT is). It's time for the next major break through in games because we haven't had anything terribly impressive (other than graphics) for about 10 years, as I said. Physics, in my opinion, is the next thing -- and it's time to get on with it.

A perfect example of how E3 2005 should be remembered as the year Sony made gamers skeptical of any good looking videogame trailers. Its kind of sad...
Anyway, the game looks promising to say the least. Graphically it is pretty solid in what I have seen so far. They can call it the RTE all they want, until I see someone playing it I'll assume it was prerendered, non-interactive trailer. The other trailers I have seen of this are just as crisp.

What is the gameplay for this title?
I mean, it looks pretty, in a robo-wasteland kinda way, but the media here don't say much about the game itself.

When I bought the game Fire Warrior (I knew what I was getting into, but I like Warhammer 40k)
i never got this. i read reviews and considered the very existence of the game an affront to me personally. wtf were GW doing with thier licenses for that period? i mean, even the idea behind it sounded like a sick joke. lets take a random race no-one cares about out of all our great history and fluff and blah-blah-blah (after this point it doesn't really matter). damn them! until dawn of war, o course ;)
on topic: the screenies look great, suddenly got excited about getting a 360 again! i can't wait 2 get that shit hooked up to a 21" monitor and surround sound system :D no vid for me @ work, though :(

"the aim is to create movie like in game material"
Can they stop with the movie/game thing. I want to play a game, not sit and watch 2 hours of cinematic footage.
Seriously what was the last game you played that LOOKED like a game. Not realistic, not per-pixel-bump-and-normal-mapped, I mean, vibrant and colourful and fast moving so it gives you a headache after an hour.
This is not an excuse for an argument, I'm just fed up of interactive movies. ^_^

I don't mind having cutscenes in my games, especially ones that are well done. Heck, I'd rather they do great cutscenes than have crappy ones. It would be nice if people didn't use the MGS model for how a movie-like game should be. I loved the MGS series, but even I, cutscene afficianado that I am, was getting ready to start hitting the skip button at times. Not in MGS3, mind you, which had some of the best cutscenes ever. Now Xenosaga 2 on the other hand...
(I need to stop writing posts when I've just woken up. Yet again I am unsure if I've made any sense.)

Or maybe when they say cinematic they mean controlling a Smeagol that looks like the one in the movie... Using a Yoda like from the last movie.... Hell, full on Advent Children graphics in gameplay... If a game is a story based game I see no reason for not to aspire to a cinematic feel, unless someone has something that can totally blow the cinematic expeirence with games... Stories come from books and that where movies and games alike get there info...

-TNC-Yes because the processors in the x360 can't do physics math already... Oh wait, they do....
I've said it before and I'll say it again about this whole "PHYSX PPUs ARE THE NeXT RAD 733+ THING D00DZ!":

Now Xenosaga 2 on the other hand...
Xenosaga "games" aren't games at all. They are bad CG-Anime movies that cost $50. The "game" part is a scam.

Games like movies are at least ten years out. Before that happens, we need massively better animation, writing and acting, a huge improvement in AI and, most importantly, some major breakthroughs in camera control.

Umm... numbnuts... I didn't really harp on the whole physx PPU thing... which I think is a good idea, but not neccessary.
Red Faction and Red Faction II had deformable terrain in the game. Those games are OOOLLLDDD. Oh and they looked GREAT for their time too. Heck, RF2 doesn't look bad to this day. My point is that they could easily implement terrain interaction if they would just get away from this stupid scripted game crap that they're hung up on and leave the world more open ended. I suppose to do that someone would actually have to program a real AI.
We've seen little smatterings of real physics all over the game world. Raven Shield let you shoot enemies through doors and windows. Red Faction has deformable terrain. The list goes on. Now why can't we combine all that and make everything realistic? WITH OR WITH OUT some "PPU".
My take on PPUs is that they will make it easy for developers to really hammer out the math required to make good physics and leave the processor for better things (like making better AI). I'm not sure if any of you noticed but with the advent of the GPU, game AI went up dramatically. So did sound performance in games (DirectSound, Miles 2D Positional Audio and EAX2/3 became mainstream soon after due to freed up processing power).
I believe that if we get PPUs on the market that they will free up our processors to do other things. Maybe integrate live video feeds into games someday so you can see people who you're playing with. I think that could be tastefully implemented (especially into something like MechWarrior 4 where you have a "mech console").
Anyways, I think that there is a HUGE area that people are ignoring and it's time that developers do something amazing in this area. It's just time for a new breakthruogh. Graphics are getting amazing and it's nothing special to see screens like this anymore. It's just a, "I knew it would happen in 2006" type thing... Almost a "who gives a rip" response. Now if you could show me a trailer in realtime where the ground was being shot up with real craters, buildings were being caved in, vehicles were being demolished, trees were being damaged, etc., etc... I would be impressed and say "Wow!".
That's my two cents.

I actually enjoyed the first one. The second one not only makes no sense (what I've played of it) but both dumbs down the combat AND has load times for each battle that are longer than entire fights in Tales of Symphonia.
I am interested in the Xenosaga setting but I'd rather they just do a graphical upgrade to Xenogears and be done with it. At least the Xenosaga games aren't as big a scam as the .hack quadrilogy...
