Brash Entertainment (http://www.brashent.com) sends along word that they will be releasing a SAW themed video game this October, releasing around the same time as the SAWV hits the theater.
Oh yes…There will be blood.

Set to release in October 2009, in conjunction with the next installment of the film series, SAW the videogame will give fans of Jigsaw and these films a reason to live. Collaborating closely with Lions Gate and Twisted pictures, the game will have its own unique storyline, while answering questions left unanswered by the SAW films. In an effort to stay true to the movies, Brash is working closely with creators of the SAW franchise, Leigh Whannell and James Wan, ensuring the game pulls no punches, and delivers the horrifying suspense and disbelief that has floored fans worldwide. The SAW game is currently in development for next-gen platforms and will be built using the Unreal 3 game engine.

The SAW franchise, which has emerged as one of the most inventive and popular franchises in the horror genre, has grossed out audiences around the globe and grossed more than $500M worldwide, including selling over 15 million DVD’s.

This is your wake up call. There are rules….you have two hours to post this news. Let the game begin. www.whoisjigsaw.com. (http://www.whoisjigsaw.com.)SAWIV was kind of a travesty, but this could be fun.

I thought Saw IV was pretty decent all things considered.

When a movie's release dictates a game's release date, we all know how it ends up. This will suck. hard.

We already have the Manhunt games, which aren't that great, but work on a similar premise... I doubt that these guys are going to do better.

It could be cool if this played more like an adventure game, rather than an action game. Hell, the movies play tend to play out as though you're watching someone play an old point and click adventure game. One way or the other, if it's a movie tie-in, odds are it will be bad. And as someone else mentioned, if it's trying to come out at the same time as the new movie, the odds are even worse for it being decent.

I do kinda enjoy the Saw movies, so I'll be curious to see if this is any good.

I thought Saw IV was pretty decent all things considered.

I thought that they didn't even try to make it into a SAW movie. It had a couple of nice gore scenes, but the whole idea of making someone appreciate their life was just totally lost in the film. Not to mention bringing back one character we already established was dead and then killing off another character for no reason.

I think that with just a little big of tweaking it could have been made into a SAW movie, but it was pretty obvious that whoever wrote it didn't "get" the first movie or the third movie at all.

I think the most interesting thing to come out of the fourth movie was that it actually told us more of how much time took place between the events of the previous three movies. I'm hoping Saw IV was just a transition episode, and things will move on in more interesting ways in the future.

Yeah, I think of Saw as basically a TV show that gives us one hour and a half episode a year. Maybe that makes it easier for me to be okay with its weaker points.

all of the saws are a disgrace to horror films except the first one which was a B at best

SAW III was written by the same writers as SAW 1. SAW II was partially re-written by the writer of SAW 1. SAW II was a script they had lying around that was hastily re-written to include Jigsaw.

SAWIII was the true "sequel" which is why it makes so much more logical sense, seems to have the same "theme" as SAW1 and why it ended up tying together all three movies into a trilogy.

SAWIV had no relation to the previous SAW films in terms of writers.

Honestly, the first SAW was the only movie that had merit, the rest were just made to rake in cash from the gore-hounds. I used to be very much into gory movies, just not so much anymore--and could you blame me? Gore for the sake of gore can be fun, it just doesn't make a worthwhile movie.

As for a SAW game...see previous "rake-in-cash" statement.

Give me a new installment of the Deception series on the 360 or PS3. Heck, slap the SAW logo on it and set it in modern days and it would still be awesome. You already have a game series devoted to setting up traps and killing people in nasty ways. Just update it for the current hardware!

Did you play Trapt? I hear that was a sort of successor to the Deception series. I don't remember hearing much good about it.

I want something with the same kind of underlying mechanics as the Deception/Trapt series but with the shiny graphics and some gameplay tweaks of the current generation of hardware.

Saw IV was utter and complete crap. It thought it was being soooo clever with the ending, but in reality it made a lick of sense and just made me realize that the movie as a whole doesn't benefit with writing when all they're trying to do is get as many kills as they can.

The game I honestly have more faith in since I love James Wan's stuff and he always has such an awesome sense of humor and originality whenever he gives interviews or talks of his ideas.

I actually don't find the Saw movies to be very gory, or at least they use the gore in "clever" ways. I never struck as one of those "there'll be gore just for the fuck of it" movies. I actually like all the Saw movies but I don't know what the hell is gonna happen with the fifth.

I'm guessing you missed the brain surgery scene from SAWIII. :p

I loved SAWIII, I thought it was a great film, but the whole brain surgery bit was just gore for the sake of gore. It was pretty shameless about it too. I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing.

Saw 4 was an absolute embarrassment. Period. Just when you thought it couldnt suck more it sung to new lows. Really, the only reason why i didnt walk out of the theater was because i love Charlies score to the movies...

That both the Saw and Hostel franchises are so popular is a stunning indication of how far Western society has fallen. "Torture Porn"? Our grandparents would be horrified.
