EA celebrates the online FPS selling over one million copies worldwide. Check out the details of EA's latest cash cow here (http://bf1942.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=8932).

With all the expansion packs and the console versions BF might just become the next Sims... ;)

PC gaming is dead.

Not as long as console games still use controllers for FPSs.

Breaks a Million PCs?

Or maybe a million hearts amongst all the BF2 widows abandoned by their men, who want to gain medals and honor online :D

i'll wait for the forgottenhope2 mod before i buy (on ebay, hopefully at a slight discount by then).

unless of course oblivion comes out first, then forget it.

Borys, you should know better than to make use of or allude to abstract concepts in this forum... :)

Breaks a Million PCs?

Funny you say that. 10 people in my BF2 community experienced motherboard failure, myself included, after playing this game for a few weeks. I'm wondering if BF2 is the new stress test to replace programs like Prime95, or if it's just a crazy coincidence.

BF2 is definitely a stretch on most gaming machines. The need to upgrade Video cards is enormous when you realize the difference it makes. And with 1+ million sales, that means more money to Nvidia and ATI. Much less the MB and CPU upgrades.

What they can't seem to fix is the lag. Us poor snipers are still getting lousy scores even after doing the Uber-upgrade to our systems. I have to play sniper on 2-3 systems that are nearby to even make it worthwhile(Damn weapon locks). So far the best killers are the Air jocks and their area effect weapons.

Keep looking for better servers. Luckily my own server gives me little lag; I can snipe all day, hit moving targets at long range, etc.

It's not just ping, there are so many factors like server hardware, whether it's hosting multiple servers on one box, bandwidth throttling, etc. Sometimes you will get smoother play on a solid 100 ping connection than on a flaky 30 ping.

Speaking of bandwidth- our server network traffic graphs have shown that our single 50 player server uses around 5 times more bandwidth than when we ran 3 DC servers combined!! This needs massive optimization, which may in turn stabilize connections for a lot of people.

I should point out I am playing on Bones FrontlineFormation server. I use a Sniper with a Barrett .50 as an AntiPilot weapon for those capping Helos.

Except it routinely does not work, and I have the same ISP as Bone and similar hardware. Gotta luv the inconistencies in a game.

Hmm, we do have the same ISP, but I have had wildly different experiences with Time Warner depending on the 3 locations I've lived at in Austin.

Still, I acknowledge that BF2 is extremely buggy so I can't really discount the game as the problem.

Hope to see you in the server, Vulture!
