MSNBC reports (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8889445/) that Devin Moore has been convicted of capital murder after killing three police officers and driving off in a police car. You may remember the case as being the one in which Moore's lawyer argued that Moore was not at fault, because he has a mental defect and commited these actions after continous playing of GTA3 and GTA:Vice City.

Of course, the article also says:The A.P.[/B]"]The victims’ families have filed a civil suit against the video game manufacturer and two stores, claiming Moore killed the three after repeatedly playing “Grand Theft Auto III” and “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.” No trial date has been set in the civil lawsuit.A big tip of the EvAv hat to GamePolitics (http://www.gamepolitics.com/), where I noticed the news. If he truly did have this alleged mental defect, who was in charge of watching what games he played? Geez, talk about a flimsy case.

Hey, hey! Watch your language. Been playing too much San Andreas? I think I might sue Rockstar on account of my virgin ears being harassed by someone who played their game!

Game Politics is a good site so far as having up-to-date news content. Though careful, when he posts an editorial.... I get angry!

Okay, not 'angry', but I disagree with him often. But enjoy, guys. The latest story has everyone's favorite "Jack Chick of Gaming" and his latest attempt to show us the light via litigation. Of course, if you still need something to read after that, there's another pretty good blog that you can read that I can think of... :D

I remember hearing stories about people that blamed Heavy Metal music for their commiting crimes back in the day.

However, I wonder if this is a malicious lawsuit. It's entirely possible that this is a Republican law firm seeking the client rather than the client seeking an attorney. Court room publicity. . .

Edit: Followed link to the case and that is exactly what it is (Jack Thompson is the plaintiff's attorney). . . I hope they countersue and pursue it. I'd like to see him disbarred.

I would have canned my lawyer if that was the best defense he could come up with.

WileE.Coyote - Well the story states that he plead guilty to these charges, so there wasn't a defense. It was a plea deal.

The original case was a mistrial where jurors could not agree on whether or not the defendant was legally insane. So his defense had nothing to do with video games but with an insanity claim. The reason he only got 27 years is that this was a plea agreement.

So Jack Thompson is going to argue that video games contributed in some way to this person going crazy. . . . or something. Anyway, it's pretty obvious he doesn't give a damn about the merits of the case and is just seeking to extend his infamous 15 minutes.

That kid blaming a videogame for his complete lack of responsibility, logic, and respect is just the kind of douche-nozzle that makes my blood boil. He does something that is completely stupid, foolish, and any other negative adverb I can think of and then blames it on something else. What a pathetic little bastard. I'd like to give him a back-pivot kick right to his face and then blame a Mortal Kombat for my outburst. What a twat. As for Thompson, he's just playing the lawyer game. Every lawyer wants a niche to give them an edge (and money). It worked for Cochran and his "racism" approach. Why not Thompson and his "games are bad, mmmkay" approach? He's just another mouth wanting fed. Here's hoping it gets fed with a bowl of Shut The Fuck Up real soon.
