I'll let his words speak for themselves. I could never get into that kind of detail. Sounds impressive, though.

He only makes comparisons to other GT titles, unfortunately.

They do this with pretty much every GT game, or something similar. These seems to be a freelance kind of write up though.
I think with GT4 they actually had two or three drivers get into a setup with the virtual counterparts of their real life cars and have at it. There are usually a few player made comparisons of specific cars on specific tracks as well. Generally pretty similar.
Always been a big fan of the GT games, and I have no doubt that GT5 will deliver. I do not have a PS3 though, and do not plan on getting one; not in the near future anyway. So Forza 2 will have to suffice, though as a fan of both, I have to say that Forza feels like it lacks something to me and I can not quite put my finger on it.

Seeing how your sig says that you play Test Drive Unlimited, what you're missing in Forza is probably arcady handling. ;)

I saw the 1Up footage. I am not a racing fan, but there were some issues. No car damage, clipping issues, paying 40-50 dollars for a demo.

Turn 10 did the same thing with Forza and Forza 2 to pimp it's realism. I think all high-end race sims do similar stuff to crow about their credentials.
Hell, I remember back in the day when Popular Science did a comparison (http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2005-03/race-against-reality) between reality and Forza with real racecar drivers.

Issues? There was a lot of whining is what there was. Shame John Davidson left 1up, he is the only real racing game fan they had.
He would have talked about the car physics. He would have talked about the AI. He would have talked about the courses. He would have talked about the multiplayer component.
In short, he would have talked about the important things instead of sitting around on a couch whining about having to pay for a demo. Tell me what the game delivers, I'll decide whether or not it is worth paying for.

I'll get GT5 (and probably the prologue) just because I'm a huge racing game fan...the more realistic the better. GT started the "super duper realism" phase in mainstream racing games.
I have gone back and forth on GT5. I am furious that for 10 years now Polyphony Digital has promised damage and online, and all they've done is add online play. Granted, it's a hell of an online mode, with clips from Top Gear, 16 player races, etc.
But the damage and customization that Forza 2 has brought mean a lot to me. With the customization, I can make a car truly mine. I can go online in a car that I know nobody else in the world has, which is a huge part of being a "car guy" in the first place. And the damage makes the races for keeps, you know? The few online races I've hosted have been hardcore all the way, full damage, no assists, etc. Knowing that in GT I'll never be able to do it....bleh.
So for a long time I was sure I wouldn't get it. Then I downloaded the Japanese demo for GT5:P. The physics seem pretty decent (hard to tell with just the controller) and the graphics....sweet Lord.....I could see the seatbelt texture on the rear seatbelts. I mean...the rear seatbelts...
I'll give them my money as a fan of the genre. But just like Japanese car manufactures tend to slowly evolve a product over time rather then create large, sweeping changes, GT has been a franchise that has been loathe to change enough to keep up with the marketplace.

He would have talked about how collisions were consequence free, no damage, no loss in speed, and AI players could just ghost through a player's car. He would have talked about how no prologue has made it to the US yet, so whether it is free or not is moot until something comes out. Oh wait, that happened in the preview I watched.

That was a disappointing article. It was more like an ad for GT 5. Kind of embarrassing.
He said a couple of things that really made me cringe.
No other racing game has this level of physics detail.
I'm hoping GT 5 will have an excellent physics model, but that's never been the series strength in the past. It seems like a stretch they'd suddenly leapfrog Gran Prix Legends, Forza 2, Live for Speed, Nascar Racing and GTR 2 with Prologue... It's not even GT 5. That seems way over the top.
The second comment that makes it sound like an ad or a mother praising her son is this embarrassing comment.
So far, it's been all praise. You might be asking yourself, "Is there anything this game doesn't do well?" The answer to that is actually quite obvious, and it's something that will be very hard for racing games to recreate, ever.
No matter how realistic a game is, it's still just a game. The one thing Gran Turismo doesn't accurately simulate is the terror of being in a race car.
So, that's it. It's absolutely perfect except you don't get real fear.
This guy should could have given the Iraqi PR guy a run for his money.

Anyway, I'm really excited for GT 5, but this article is basically worthless, IMO.

AI cars only ghost through the player car while the player is racing under penalty after eating wall or ramming into a competitor really hard. The game itself does not have "clipping issues" outside of this.
I thoroughly enjoy GT5 Prologue on a regular basis, and given that I've been playing it for well over a month now and haven't finished all of the events I would say that "demo" argument needs to just fucking stop already.

So they should just ignore the issues? This seems familiar to the Mass Effect situation where alot of people where complaining about several issues, but some of us ignored them because the important parts of the game were awesome.
