It's because of Team Ico that the answer to the age old question "Can videogames be art?" always came easy to me.

I think Ico 3 means the third game from this team, not from a franchise. Thus, Ico 2 would be Shadow of the Colossus.

They are. Rumor is that this will be a sequel to Shadow. To early to tell though.
Also, you guys are fast.

I think so...
The makers of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus are working on a PlayStation 3 project.
That implies "3rd game in the series" to me, and I doubt the final name of the game will be Ico 3.

Can't wait. One of my favorite dev teams in the biz.
I still need to play ICO. To bad it's impossible to find anywhere. I am very excited about their next game. Shadow of the Colossus was amazing.

The answer, of course, being NO! Lovely hype pic that - "Well see here this new game we're creating, it's got a few chains, some stones, and there might actually be a hole in the ground. Yessiree, artistic, next-gen gaming for the win. You excited yet?"

SotC is a prequel to ICO for those unaware. So this could be the third game in the ICO storyline.

I saw some pics awhile ago with Japanese writing all over it of a Colossus with two horsemen attacking it.
I really hope this is a new SoC with some multiplayer in it. If so I will be sold on a PS3, after seeing those amazing FFXIII screens.

The picture isn't the hype, but rather the fact that the picture implies that the project is well underway. As this thread shows, plenty of people (myself included) will jump for anything that team ICO does. Definitely worth while.

As well as a system seller for me. Back when it was announced that they were working on something for the PS3, that was when I knew I was getting one.

That's disappointing if true. Shadow was ok but nowhere near as well done as ICO. That is the game they should be doing a sequel for.

Anyone that finished SotC will see that the game is tied to Ico. Whether that is the same character at the end, making SotC a direct prequel hasn't ever been confirmed (that I know of) but it's pretty clear that was the message.
I'll also echo that a Team Ico game would be a system seller for me. Hell, I don't even need to see screenshots for the game. If there was a blank case and I knew there was a new Team Ico game in there, I'd buy it along with a PS3 in a heartbeat.

I loved ICO, but didn't care much for SotC. The atmosphere and design is really the strenghts of these games, but the actual gameplay didn't really excite me. I look forward to see what they do with next-get hardware.

I absolutely loved the gameplay in SotC. Sure, the mechanics could be labeled simplistic and the horse control wasn't perfect, but the climbing/fighting gameplay was awesome.
Trying to stay on top of the some of the later Colossi created a great sense of tension (loved the flying ones).
That all being said, I was a little disappointed in the end boss. The scale was epic, sure, but I didn't like that he was stationary. You never got that 'holding on for dear life' feeling.

My favourite Colossus in SotC was probably the flying bird thing. That just blew my mind.
I really need to play through SotC again now that I have a nice HDTV and can run it in progressive scan.

Same here...I sat there staring at the screen for a good two minutes when that happened. Partly because games (even the "gritty" ones) don't tend to be that tragic and partly because I was a bit shocked at how much it affected me.
It just goes to show how talented Team Ico is. They had us caring about a character's (who himself says one word the entire game) horse after a 6 hour game.

Team Ico is a part of Sony's own development group, so it could only be for PS3 or PSP. Damn, Sony runs the chance of selling me two systems with one team of devs.

I'm pretty sure they're both for the PS3, though I guess one could be for the PSP. So far there haven't been any details other than rumors that one would be a SotC sequel. There was that rumor a while back about some game where you use this hang glider thing to explore some gigantic canyon (like Grand Canyon to scale in size), but I think that ended up being BS.

I know it. There were two flying colossi, but the sandworm flying thing was intense. I mean, every colossus was intense, but that ranks up there as one of the best boss battles of all time for me.

I'm really looking forward to see what Team Ico can push out of the PS3, Shadow of the Colossus was a technical marvel on the PS2, and a artistic one. Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 are good and all, but I'm going to be looking for Team Ico to set the bar in the graphical and artistic (<-that's a given) arena.

I always got the impression that (SoTC spoilers, dunno if it is necessary) the events in SoTC brought about the curse of the horned kids, and the baby was the first of those, so Ico is set many generations later. That room you get lead to at the start of Ico is sposed to be a tomb for all of those horned kids, so the main character is definitely not the first of them.
digitalErich
01-24-2008, 08:12 PM
Yeah, that's the theory I always subscribed, too as well. I didn't mean to imply the baby was the protagonist of Ico. I worded that post poorly.
I meant to say it was pretty clear the the game was a prequel, no matter what the exact identity of the baby was.
Lon Lon Rabbit
01-24-2008, 08:14 PM
Yeah.
I really loved that surprise, I audibly gasped when it was revealed, as all through the development I'm pretty sure they'd specifically said the game was compeltely independent of the universe created in Ico, and there was nothing to suggest a link through the entire game up to that point, so it was such a cool thing to have pop up at the end.

Ico isn't that hard to find. I still come across copies occasionally in the used bins, you're just not looking. One of them is mine because I sold it for $5 years ago. I didn't really like ico as a game but it is definitely one of those essential to play games like REZ.
Ink Asylum
01-24-2008, 10:12 PM
That's been my personal theory as well. In fact, in my own head I've gone farther: Once the horned baby in SotC grew up, he and the girl had two kids, another girl and a horned boy. The new horned boy returns to the regular world. A long time later, a cycle has developed where a horned boy is born every hundred years or so and is brought to the temple in Ico, where there is a Queen and a Princess. The horned boy and the Princess produce a new baby girl and the Princess becomes the new Queen. Thus the opening of Ico, where he manages to break the cycle.

Ha, yeah I'm in the same situation thinking pretty much the same thing. Ico was also one of the few games my girlfriend liked watching me play, she'd mimic those voices of the boy and princess whenever they called each other.
