[Rumor] - Full Super Smash Bros. Brawl Roster Leaked? [Archive]

Gameonnintendo (http://gameonnintendo.com/2008/01/22/final-roster-revealed-for-super-smash-bros-brawl/) has what it claims to be a screenshot from the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The shot purports to show the character selection screen and, if accurate, means the roster will weigh in at a robust 44 fighters. To date only 25 characters have been confirmed, so this is a huge increase in that number.

Among the new fighters: Baby Bowser, King K. Rool (DK Country), Krystal (Star Fox Adventure), Ganondorf

There's been so many fakes that I don't really know what to think. The only fighter I'd really have a problem with is KRYSTAL. UGH.

I can't believe people are worried about having fighting game characters spoiled for them.

The number I've heard kicked around a lot recently is 35 fighters, not counting the characters that technically count as 2, like Samus/ZS Samus and Zelda/Shiek. The unnannounced characters that have been "spoiled" and that I believe are actually in the game are:

Ness
Jigglypuff
Falco
Star Wolf

These come from some dudes on GAF who I know are involved in the industry, as either journos or strategy guide writers. I've also heard that Ridley is absolutely NOT in.

Well, there are. Being considerate and using spoilers isn't that hard.

The picture is pretty obviously fake - the picture of Micaiah is taken from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, and doesn't come close to matching the style of Ike.

Take a look at the picture of MetaKnight, and compare to the first result on Google image search. I have a feeling Nintendo is probably not reusing a bio "photo" from two years ago.

(Edit: Also, looking closer at the site, the picture on the TV is next to identical to the perfect screenshot. That seems a little unlikely to me. Outputting an image to a TV and then taking a picture of it doesn't make it any more legit.)

There's no way they'd almost double the number of characters at this point. Although, it might be interesting to play as Wind Waker Link that's shown in the upper right.

K. Rool's icon is a 2D sprite from the DKC series. Zelda's icon is wrong - I won't say why. Need not go any further.

Also, as Ondo said...please use the spoiler tags. This is the biggest game of the year. Let's not ruin it for anyone who wants their surprise intact. Those who say there's nothing to be spoiled aren't familiar with the game or this series.

Ashley makes perfect sense. She knows the darkest spells and she never combs her hair. What proves this is false, though, is the very 2D image of Young Link.

My problems with this thread:

1. Its just a rumor and with the hundreds of circulated fakes, it probably shouldn't be front-paged
2. Although I'm not bothered, some people do want not to be spoiled, and not having the pic be the first thing they see would be nice.
3. Some of those characters just suck. "Black Bull"? Really?

The last one isn't your fault, but it does make me thing its fake.

The picture there looks remarkably similar to this one, which was busted months ago. Compare the images used for Krystal, Fox, and Mario in both "screens".

Just WOW, the only thing that I can say now is that Nintendo really need to make a "Wii Chat Channel" or a "Wii Friends Code Channel" so they can promote online multiplayer in supported games like Brawl and others too.
They could even make a sort of IRC/mIRC for this..

Anyway, glad to know that Gannandorf, Luigi, and C. Falco are in there, it would be an insult not to put those knowns characters in the game.

you'll notice whatever character that is on the second to top row, left is in front of his character name, while all the rest are behind their character name. Either someone in Nintendo got sloppy or it's a shop. I'll say fake though.

Actually, Krystal is a big possibility as being true. The voice actress for Krystal posted on her website a while back that she was providing Krystal's voice for SSBB. After about a week on the site, the mention was mysteriously removed.

Could be an Assist Trophy, Could be a cut-scene appearance. I think the only fair assumption is that most veterans from Melee will return.

In Nintendo lore, Krystal is a D-list character with a short history who has appeared in the two weakest installments of the franchise she appears in.

Many of the clones are in limbo. Doc Mario, Pichu, Roy, and Young Link in particular. Other veterans are also in danger.

Three, if you count Star Fox Command for DS. She ranked high on the poll Sakurai had a while ago for character requests, and numerous of those characters (DeDeDe, Diddy, Olimar, etc..) have made it in.

Man, I like Geno fine, but I've never understood the rampant obsession to have him as a playable. Personally, I'd be fine with the rumored 35 if it just included Ridley. Not having a playable villain for the Metroid series is a crime.

Mr. Game and Watch was already CONFIRMED as cut, as was Young Link. How the hell would Waluigi be playable if he is already confirmed on the blog as an assist trophy, and Sakurai said none of the trophy characters are playable?

Zelda's picture looks like anime, as does Roy's. This is just stupid, why the hell do people waste our time making these, and why do more people waste their time posting it on somewhat reputable blogs and forums?

No. No. No. No.

We're not starting this shit here. No internet telephone games. They have NEVER, not EVER, been said by ANYONE who actually has a hand in the game to be cut. And there's more than enough proof for Game & Watch (Go read up on the numbering of the icons on the Dojo, the missing one in the middle of the Melee set can't be anyone else).

And the 35 character count is also bullshit. The only two people to ever prove themselves trustworthy by correctly predicting overly specific things months in advance both say it's BS.

Also, the allegedly trustworthy (I've not seen any past examples for reason of this, but whatever) GAF folks also claim there are no more third party characters beyond Sonic and Snake. IGN has said on a couple different occassions that there are definitely more than Sakurai's original estimate of '1-2' more. They have no reason in the world to make that up.

There. A whole lot of rumor BS cleaned up in one swing. Actually, just a sec.

Seriously. I would love to see a compilation of all the leaks, rumors, theories, and confident postings about Brawl since it was first announced. I can't think of any other game that has had this amount of unofficial "insiders" just leaking supposed information left and right.

There doesn't even have to be discussion about this anymore. It is a clear and obvious fake. The easiest way to determine a fake character select screen is to look at the icons used for unannounced characters. If the graphic doesn't match the style of Brawl, it's a fake. When in doubt, do a quick google image search for the character and you'll probably find the source image.
