View Full Version : Xbox Live Downloads Slow?

Hey all... I'm trying to figure out if there's a general problem with Xbox Live, my ISP, or just my local network configuration.
I went to download the full version of Undertow today, and it's just downloading ridiculously slow. I mean, it's a 48MB download, and it's been downloading for over 30 minutes now. I have an 8mb down connection from Comcast (hate 'em, but don't have a good alternative around here), and usually have no problems downloading at 600-800KB/second from the major web sites (ATI drivers, Windows patches, etc.).
This download is the slowest it's been in a while, but I have noticed that it stays pretty dang slow, and nowhere near as fast as it used to be when I would download content like XBLA titles, demos, and movie trailers. Back last month, I just put it down to the system being swamped with all the gamers on holiday and the new systems bought and connected to the service. But now, I'm not so sure...
Is anyone experiencing similiar problems today, or of late?

Hasn't Live been garbage the last few weeks?

Yes, it is slow right now. My guess is the Live problems are still there.

Live's been fine for me for the past few weeks since Jan 4th. I've probably gotten about 7,000 kills online in COD 4 since Jan 4th, so it's not slowed me down.
I'd imagine a free game will cause a slowdown, but I haven't tried today yet, but will tonight. And I'll be contributing to the crush as well...

I think this is still the case. Sometimes it goes really slow for me other times it works just fine. Got the HD version of Ratatouille on Sunday night super fast but the Burnout Paradise demo took forever a few weeks ago.

Still slow for me too. Kept getting errors in the marketplace last night. It's been about a month now since these problems started.

Probably the same thing that caused this before - you still have a large number of new 360 owners, and now you have a large number of 360 owners all trying to download the same free game.

Live is running well for me, the only hiccup I have run into this afternoon is when I went to grab Undertow. It simple told me that the arcade portion of Live was unavailable. A work around, by the way, is if you still have the trial version, just find that in "My Games" and click the "Buy Full Version", worked for me.
I downloaded the Turning Point demo in less than twenty minutes though, which clocks in at something like 1.12gig. That was pretty speedy if you ask me.

I did a long string of downloads a few nights back, and I found that about a third of the downloads would crawl. Everything else seemed to transfer just fine. There was no correlation of size or content to the download speed - some of them just happened to take forever. It makes me wonder if there's a problem with the way Live is allocating servers behind the scenes, inadvertently overloading some while others hum along happily.

We really, really, really need to get someone to just make an official "Live is Wonky" thread. It seems like we get one of these each day now.

True, although I'm kind of curious if these randomly slow downloads come from the same family of problems as the other Live glitches folks are reporting. They may or may not be rooted in the same underlying issue...

Hasn't Live been garbage the last few weeks? It had been better for the last 10 days or so. Until today, the day we're all allowed to DL a few game as compensation for all the downtime. Ironic, isn't it?

This weekend my buddy downloaded some songs for Rock Band. For 7 songs it took us about 2 hours, not including the random disconnect from Live.
Yes the service is still broken.

Beautiful in it's irony actually. It seems to be quite an upsetting issue what with all the threads cropping up and free game compensation and whatnot. The only experience I've had with the problem so far is watching a friend having issues connecting to another in CoD4. I chose a good time to lay off the gaming apparently.

It seems slow to react. Kept telling me I could not see any data, wait a second and retry and I was fine. I have grabbed a few things at a good speed, but most of it is still going slow.

That is really hilarious. They give you a free game for Live problems, and then everyone trying to download said free game causes more problems. Of course, I do not have a 360, so I find it hilarious. If I did own one, and my paid service was acting like this, I would be pissed.

I just wanted to pop-in and say, "I'm not having problems (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43194). Fuck you, haha, it's all obviously just a big rumor created by teh intarwebz."

My download speeds on XBL have been sporadic as well. After a few hours, the Club demo was only at ~30% of 1GB file, which is much slower than normal.

Condemned Demo just moved to 99% after about 45 minutes on 98%.
I get all kinds of errors all day long on Xbox Live now. I wasn't playing over christmas, because I was back home with family and had no ethernet port to plug into, so I didn't experience that whole set of issues.
But, Live has been giving me some real problems in the last two weeks. From random errors that pop up at all times, to the frequent connection loss. Also, downloads have been slow as shit. Halo 3 is laggy as hell for me, no matter what I do, but it was never that way before I left for break.
It might be time to stop paying for live and let them get their shit worked out.
