Lo All,
Pretty much what the title says, what pets do you use, and why?
Stat wise, it seems like the ravager is probably the best PvP pet out there, with Dash, and Gore. Personally, I still have my level 70 white lion. And only have the single pet. I've been thinking about snagging another pet lately but i'm unsure what i'd want.
So, what do people use for pvp and pve? Curious. I'm at work so I have time to kill so thought i'd ask.

As A Warlock, and seeing a lot of hunters, it seems that you quest and PVE with a tank(bears mostly, some cats, and a few apes), and for PVP you break out the ones with better DPS and abilities. I always laugh when I see a Warlock on our server with a Felguard, all of those wasted talents and weakening you so far. I know that the DragonHawks are popular as a DPS for hunters in the BG, see a lot of them. Our 70 Hunter in the Guild seems to like an Owl. But the outland animals seem to really be nice. The Warp Stalkers with their Phase Shift are pretty mean, and Ravagers are really popular. But it looks like the smart Hunters level up the better old world pets, like Lions, Wolves, DragonHawks.
I use the Voidwalker for questing, more threat, high armor, self healing. But tailor my other pets for the BattleGrounds. I really like the FelHunter(the devil dog) because it devours curses, healing itself, infects people dealing physical damage and lowers their DPS, and can stun lock casters. It is also nice and self reliant. The Imp or Succubus is a tad high maintenance when it comes to commanding them.

Cats are the premiere PvE pet, from what I here.

I always used that one white bat near the Undead starting area.
Named it Shikaka, of course.

I keep 3 types, tank, DPS, and a mid-range. Here are my personal choices but I've only leveled my hunter to the 40s (but I've read up on all the Outland pets)
Boar for questing/soloing (I think they have the best snap aggro of the tank pets via Gore)
Wolf for instancing/grouping (Furious Howl boosts all melee attacks for the group)
Cat for dps or farming lower level mobs.
Plus, all my pets are unique look (http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/html/articles/special_skins.shtml) pets with the exception of the wolf, but I always planned on replacing him with Ironjaw once I got to the upper levels.
For PvP, I never played enough to know if I preferred the cat or wolf. I would guess the cat.

Petopia (http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/index.shtml) is the best place for pet stats and research.

Yeah I've used petopia for a long time, helped me to plan long term pet wise, which is why I have the cat I do now. Just trying to decide what to fill the other spots with I guess. I'm thinking of a Wolf, and Maybe another Boar. (My first boar I used from level 10-50) He was a very, very solid pet tank.

Basically for solo PvE stuff I use a boar, with charge and growl he builds up like 3k threat on the first hit. Get a boar.
For PvE content where I'm gonna have a tank I use a ravager, they do great DPS.
I don't PvP much but when I do I actually prefer a boar cause charge just hurts those healers.

My favorite PVP pet was either the Spiders from the Draenei Starting zone (That shriek they make will scare the shit out of people in BGs.) or the Serpent hawks from WC. Their lightning breath (I don't know if they changed it) Ignores armour and spell resistances.

PvE = boar (charge/gore)
PvP = first ravager, second cat
Ravager > Cat for those who wonder :)

I'm one of those Warlocks you probably laugh at, but I really love having my felguard and really beefed up pets. I feel like in a one on one with another warlock that's spec'd for either destruction or affliction, I'll always win the fight. Sure, I may die from the dots, but I'll take em down first. What I love about it is being able to instant cast a voidwalker once I'm getting low on health and sacrifice to give me that temporary bubble shield.

Against a warlock? That is why I laugh, banish and then I am off to the races. And I know a demonology specced lock cannot beat me with his spells.

If it makes you feel better, I am debating going back to that and dropping the enchanting given that GP is a max level chanter.

I found ravagers to be amazing PvE pets because of Gore, Boars also have this ability. Its a nice focus dump if you're BM. If you're MM I've heard that wind serpents are good pets because they are ranged casters. Or you can try a wolf for furious howl. In PvP alot of hunters run w/ drain teams and have scropids. You cast a viper sting then your pet puts his poisons over it guaranteeing the sting lasts the whole duration draining the 1k+ of mana.

King, Felguard is not completely wasted if you're doing 5s. Its great for survivability + the Felguard does quite a bit of damage. Hes also equally as good on 3s depending what team you run, sucks for 2v2 and solo play however. Great farming pet! (tho I prefer affliction). I'm felguard when I do 5s and sl/sl any other time except raiding when I'm generally affliction..
saving money...whats that?

I'm leveling a hunter right now, he's 45ish, BM spec.
I've been using a cat. I have a boar but after switching between them for a few levels, I found the little bit of extra aggro gore gives over dash+claw doesn't really make up for the extra dps of the cat.
Sure I can pop off a little more dmg when I have the boar out, but I find it goes like this ..
With the boar I'll do Shot-Arcane-Shot-Multi-shot-shot-shot-Arcane to finish
With the cat I'll do Shot-Arcane-Shot-Multi and then shot till dead. No need for the last Arcane.
That way I get into the 5 second rule way quicker and find I barely have to drink at all.
Just my experience anyway, ymmv.

Gore is better than Claw, therefore Ravager is generally better than cat in situations where DPS is the main focus. For me, that's pretty much every situation whether PvE or PvP.
Of course, having a pet you enjoy looking can be pretty important as well.

I have
-a raiding pet, which is a cat because it's a decent dps pet. (Though ravagers are good too, they just look like a cockroach crossed with... a chair?)
-a currently inactive levelling pet, a mulgore wolf who was my first tamed pet, been with me 10-70. Wolves are decent mid-range for pets, you can't really go wrong.
-a ghost wolf, I felt it was worth taking up the spot reserved for PvP pet because I'm shite at pvp anyway..... good thing I got it when I did.
( I name them all after members of the subfamily bovinae, caus I'm a Tauren, moo! 3:8) )

My hunter uses the Black Lion from the barens.
