As promised, Rockstar has released the No More Hot Coffee patch, preventing the Hot Coffee scenes from being accessed even if attempts are made to install the original Hot Coffee modification.
This update brings Rockstar's action game to v1.01 and also adds 720p and 1080i HDTV support, as well as a few gameplay tweaks and bug fixes.
You can grab the GTA: San Andreas v1.01 patch (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=27292) (11mb) over at WorthPlaying.

Ok, so hang on a sec... The game is rated AO because of the sex, but now with this patch the sex is gone, right? So... they've been rerated AO for content that now doesn't exist? WTF?!?

So why would anyone download this patch? How stupid.
btw, those HDTV resolutions...for the PC version? TV-Out or something?

Indeed tv out bob, indeed. Anyways using a tv as a monitor for games is great fun.

This patch is just PR. It won't affect the ESRB's rating because the content is there when you buy it.

So are they going to start selling it again? No store has it anymore. Not that I planned on buying it, but still.

I can't blame them. After everything they went through, if they didn't do this, there is no way those people wavering on the edge would buy it when it's rereleased with the M rating. It's a public trust thing. Something you gamers wouldn't understand very well because you've never worked marketting or PR.

yours and the millions of other hot-coffee enabled discs
i really don't see what the difference is between the hot coffee patch and the tomb raider nude patch. in theoretical-land the adult content is in different places, but in reality you still have to download a crack and install it.

WTF?!?The content existed in the game, end of story. If rockstar didn't want it in the production version game they should have removed it completely, end of story. Rockstar fucked up, intentionally or not.

Yeah... And they made idiots out of themselves by defending themselves too. Retards.

jesus people, how many times we gotta beat it in your head, there is a difference between having the content in the game and adding it with a mod.
You can say all you want that you can't get to that content without the mod, but you can't prove it... can you? Therefor you have to be rated on it.
One thing this patch should clear up for everybody is the fact the content was in the game. It should be obvious to anybody, now that they've released a patch to *remove* said content, lol.

EB still sells it here in the Seattle area, but you have to ASK fo rit. They actually have PLENTY of copies for sale.

So... its a downloaded patch that stops you from being able to play a downloaded modification that allows you to see some hot dry humping action. This whole situation is beyond retarded.

Sorry, I'm trying to say something slightly different here. What I'm confused about is this: The game as it stands currently (post-patch) is compliant with the ESRB's requirements for an M-rated game. Before the patch, the rating was M and the content was AO. Now the content is M and the rating is AO. It seems like Rockstar's getting shafted both ways, doesn't it?
I agree with you 31 Flavas that R* had the content ingame and should be rated accordingly. But now, the game is AO without the content. It seems like the error or mislabeling or misrating or whatever we end up calling this was corrected TWICE. What do you all think?

We have the link up to, but it seems as though no one - myself included - wants to download it anyway. I for one don't have an HDTV-enabled display sitting beside my tower and could care less about a bunch of "adult-rated" material sitting in my GTA:SA folder.

I love it. A patch that removes something, but adds nothing. It doesn't allow me to play the game without crashes. My current audio drivers are the newest and the game crashes. If I use third-party drivers that are NEWER but not intended entirely for me, the audio quality is degraded, and i hear tons of pops and clicks, but the game is playable w/ rare freezes.
Hmm...

Only if the game was automatically patched at install-time, which it isn't, so the game (the original version) is AO when sold. They really have to be rated on how it is when sold, yeah? ..and they're probably only doing this to keep the appearances of being a good company. Maybe to satisfy the two or three parents out there who monitor what their youg-'un's play, are offended at the content, but think the game is okay for their kids if it's removed. (I won't even go into how f--ked up that idea is.) ;)
Man, I bet Rockstar are loving all this. They always loved skirting controversy .. oodles of free publicity for them. This time they got burned a little. But what the hey, probably not a dent on the value of the free publicity received.
I think I'll install this patch, out of curiosity. See how it affects my hot coffee save-game, see if it fixes the sound problems too. If it's no good, I'll just rollback to the previous install.

If you were a parent concerned about your kids getting hold of the AO content.
As, in fact, a number of people are, given there's a class-action suit filed against Rockstar based on that presumption.

I can care less about removal of the porn, but more importantly, I hope it does fix the sound bug. I'll give the game another try now, but the second that it crashed my entire windows session, it's gone. Typically this is seen as an overheating problem, but my system runs cool now, and no other games do this.

That's a horrible arguement and you know it. The game wasn't even intended for audiences under 17, so where do you (or anyone else) get off thinking that things would be different if people 18+ had to buy the game? Is there something you learn in that during that one-year gap between 17 and 18 that you didn't already learn about from a Sex Ed. class?
Give me a break.
The class-action suit is only flying because of public awareness. If the "Hot Coffee" issue hadn't blown up like it did, we probably could've expected a dismissal or a settlement by now. With the way things are at this point though, the prosecution feels like a billion or so people are on their side and the judge doesn't want his name to get plastered in the editorial section of every single newspaper in the U.S.
The only "good thing" that can come out of this is a revised rating system; a system that doesn't have a pointless AO rating suited only for games like Leisure Suit Larry. GTA:SA (and other GTA games) should never have been available to folks that were age 17 to begin with, especially with the ability to kill cops and snipe pedestrians from a rooftop.
On the other hand, games slip through the Adults-Only crack every damn day of the year because "small changes" to the gameplay kick the rating back down to "Mature". If AO wasn't shunned by the media and the masses, we'd probably see a boatload of titles stamped with an 18+ label - GTA:SA being one of them. That would solve a good deal of our problems, but no one wants to think it will.

This is true. I'm not on that bandwagon. My point is merely that there is an audience for the patch.
There are adults who want their minor to be able to play the game, but not be able to unlock the sex games.
Those people have entirely different moral systems to me, but that's irrelevant.
I don't like rap music, so does that make people who release rap CDs automatically stupid? No. There is an audience there.

These are the same people who don't think you should have Sex Ed classes, for a start.
Second, the game was clearly intended for audiences under 17, because it was edited to receive an MA15+ rating (or, at least, that's the rating it got in Australia).
Third, you're right. There's very little you learn in that one year gap. Nonetheless, you can't drive under 18, drink under 18, etc, etc - a line must be drawn somewhere.
Of course, the same parents who bought their kids the 15+ rated game will probably buy them the 18+ game, but there's nothing that can be done about that.

Yep. Still, I'd be surprised if it won.
It really shouldn't, and it's a fairly obvious attempt to cash in on the publicity.
It's a parent's responsibility to monitor what their child does on the computer - after all, if you don't know what patches they're installing, how do you know if they spend their time looking at hardcore bestiality websites?
I'm on the anti-censorship side of the debate, but this patch cannot be a bad thing.

Foreign ratings are what they are, but that doesn't change what's going on here in the U.S. Rockstar was forced to drop content from the game in order to even consider selling it in Australia, but that's understandable.
As I said though, we need a ratings overhaul here in the U.S. I'm not sure how it should be in the first place, but at the same time... that's not my job.

I'd like to think that they'll lose, but you and I know how "buggy" our courts can be. One minute you think everything is just dandy, and the next minute you're thinking "did that really just f*%(ing happen?"

We have it better in some ways, and worse in others.
The better thing is that the system is exactly the same as the movie system, which means everybody actually understands it, there's enough categories, all of that.
It's also mandatory, which I believe is a good thing, or, at least not a bad one.
It's a bit harsher than the US system, although not significantly so.
But we have no adults only rating for games - the R18+ (your NC-17) and X18+ (your XXX) movie ratings are not given to games.
This means that as of the Hot Coffee controversy and subsequent ratings review, GTA:SA is actually illegal to sell, buy or rent in Australia right now.
Personally, I think our ratings system rocks, other than that we need adult ratings. I managed to get the deputy head of our ratings board to agree to an email interview, so I've sent off my questions to him. Will hopefully have answers soon, and before too long, an R18+ rating.
I'd like to think that they'll lose, but you and I know how "buggy" our courts can be. One minute you think everything is just dandy, and the next minute you're thinking "did that really just f*%(ing happen?"
Yeah. I hope you don't mind me saying this, but your country scares the f*** out of me, and many of my countrymen. You have such fantastic ideals, and so many awesome things, and at the same time you're so f**ked up in other ways.
Sorry about that. I realized that a bit of "explanation" was needed on my part and edited my post about 6 times before I was done.
Perfectly understandable. I do it all the time.
Just irritated me that I got grumpy at you for assuming things about my opinion, and I made the same mistake about you.

I'm gonna feel dumb posting without quotes, but this patch is probably the new retail version they will press into CDs, package into boxes and put back on the shelves as M without any ability to get to the AO content.
There, i said something without pointing out the idiocy of violence being acceptable but sex acts being taboo. Oh crap. I'll quit while i'm still a little ahead.
Okay, so I seem to be the only one willing to try it so far. :) ..Actually a useful patch IMHO. There are a good 12 bugs fixed, including the infamous sound-card problems. The FAQ .txt file has doubled in size (has some good solutions .. black roads in the distance anyone?) Heck, they even fixed a problem with crashes on 32MB video cards, which aren't supported. haha..
It behaves weird if you try to use it on a hot-coffee'd save, but that shouldn't be a huge suprise. Regular saves work fine, and I'd say it's a nice patch. Would be nice if the destruction of hot-coffee could have been an option tho. ;) ..Now to look for the new no-cd patch.
