Yet another change on the release date for Funcom's highly anticipated, hack 'n' slash, MMO incarnation of everyon'es favourite Barbarian (Does one capitilze barbarian in this context? Hmmm...)

The highly anticipated MMO receives 8 more weeks of development, allowing Funcom to deliver a more polished MMO experience when the game launches on the 20th of May 2008. Despite great feedback on vital aspects like immersion, fun factor and the exciting combat system, the management of Funcom has decided to polish the game even more. Eight weeks of development work is therefore added to stress game systems and polish the game further leading up to launch.

Funcom is fully committed to its communities and the quality-level they demand and deserve, and has previously postponed the Age of Conan launch. The changes implemented as the game was moved to a 2008 release have proven to greatly improve the experience for newcomers, while introducing a more involving and accessible character progression throughout the game. Press and beta feedback in the aftermath of these changes has been very positive. As a result, the ongoing presentations of the game have continued to increase the anticipation for Age of Conan. To date, Age of Conan has received more than 20 magazine covers and 15 industry awards, and is widely considered to be one of the most anticipated MMOs in development.

More polish is a good thing, obviously, I just hope it lives up to the hype.

More polish is a good thing but I question whether "polish" is becoming a word for "project in a bit of trouble". We all accept "polish".

Still, looking forward to more Conan.

I just want to know how the game will play, and how it will run on my PC. I may end up having to wait until the 360 version. I don't know why anyone makes a deal about MMO delays, as they all have pre-order betas, and generally open betas as well, the release date just marks the point when the game is declared (by the publisher) to be worth $15 a month.

Combat looked clunky.

I am not sure where this comes from, as I have seen it many times. In all the times I have read articles, or heard interviews, never have the developers talked about a console version of the MMO. I thought consoles got that God of War clone.

I thought the same thing until recently.. IGN update (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/844/844129p1.html) Of course, the 360 version may be far away. But me buying it on PC would depend on a few things (how it plays, how it runs on my PC, would I rather just wait?)

I really hope this rocks out consoles. Other than FF11 there hasn't really been much in the way of console MMOs and I think it could work well, especially with less stat-heavy game concepts.

I've never got into an MMO but if this works I may give it a go. My main issue with MMOs is I don't get to be Conan I get to exist in his world but perhaps this is just ignorance.

A simple search turns up a handful of articles about it. They have played it down because it's on the back burner and they are focusing on releasing the PC version.

I do have a question though. Why would they choose to make a PvP focused MMO so graphics intensive? It's just going to limit the player-base.

Are the two versions going to be sharing the same game world? Or will this be an entirely seperate port?

I just cannot think that even Funcom would be dumb enough to release an MMO at the end of its life. This will be the Xbox 360's 5th year.

Uh, the 360 was released in November 2005. Are you sure you're using the Gregorian calendar?

A shame they're pushing it back so far. I wanted to play AoC while I wait for Warhammer, but it looks like I might just wait for Warhammer instead and completely skip AoC. AoC looks like a blast and all, but I think War is the next big MMO on the horizon.

My math could not been that far off, I think I meant 4th. I do not know how they are going to make an MMO on a console that has a year or two left on its life.

Honestly, a bad launch can kill an MMO in it's crib. Even if the game gets fixed up within a week or two, that initial bad press will insure that, at best, it has a hard time gathering a player base.

With MMOs being a long-term investment, it is best to launch only when one is positive that shit is working right.

Eh, no... it's the beginning of the 360's third year. It is one third through it's expected lifespan of six years (which is mostly a guess). We probably haven't even heard of the best games that the 360 will have to offer at the end of the road.
