Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/08/09/news_6130595.html?part=rss&tag=gs_news&subj=6130595) is reporting that NHL2k6 for XBox and PS2 this year will retain it's $19.99 price tag.
Excellent News! I was going to hold off till the 360 version, but I'm willing to pluck the 20 bills down to hold me over. Hopefully the NBA 2k6 will be the same.

Well the first generation sports titles usually aren't that much more impressive then the ones from that years "old" consoles, sports games are so huge too there shouldn't be any problem playing them on the 360. This needs to drop already, now that hockey's back I'm itchin' for some action and don't want to get 2K5. :p

I don't know...did you play Madden 2001 on PS1 and PS2. I played both, side by side, just to check when the PS2 came out my freshman year of college. Huge difference. But PS1 to PS2 is a bigger leap than PS2 to PS3, I guess. Maybe.
I seriously want to just mail 2K games a check for $20 and a note that says this is for EA rippin off the NFL rights. Then promptly shun Madden 06 and wait for the non NFL football games to come out.

This is excellent news and another big 'get it up ye' to EA Sports. I swear, though - if 2K6 doesn't beat the EA Sports NHL title this year, I'll kick the fucking gonads of everyone I find who bought the EA Sports one over 2K6.

I'll rent em both and buy the one I prefer. Is that okay with you?
Should be 2K6 though, the online support is light years ahead of EA's and the new Pro Control... controls look pretty damn neat.

Sure it is, so long as 2K6 wins.
In all seriousness, though, the EA Sports hockey games have sucked ass this whole generation.

Take that EA, once again SEGA gets my money.

Yeah, they have, unfortunately. Dang it, I want to Fantasy Draft a team and then just make trades and contracts, perhaps joining in on the games in the play-offs each season. NHL 2004 almost did it, but made the team useless without you playing as them. And Eastside Hockey Manager (the demo) was waaaaaay too much. Smothered me with its complicatedness.
That said, if they can make a good game, they should also bring back those gimmicky collectable cards. So far in my life I've had Wayne Gretzky Hockey (2?), NHL 95, NHL 98, NHL 2000, NHL 2002, and NHL 2004, so I am a fan of hockey games, but, yeah, they've gone downhill since NHL 2000.
AND I don't own an XBox, so it looks like I'll be screwed this year unless I can get one used for really cheap. Does the NHL2K6 have fantasy draft/free agent signing/contract options?

How will they ever have enough money to buy the license back this way?

cool, if NBA 2k6 is 20 bucks as well than I'll pick that up. How does EA still sell sports games that are $30 more and aren't even as good as the 2k games? it's pathetic.

Aye that Madden was significantly better but it was almost a completely new game in how they approached it if I'm not mistaken. Would be nice if we were supporting SEGA but they acctually sold Virtual Concepts, the 2K name, and all their sports related stuff to THQ back in the winter.
EA sells games for as much as they do because they're greedy and more interested in their profit margins. Mark my word, three years down the line we'll be buying Madden 05 with new packaging for $70.

I am rewarding this behavior by buying the game for Xbox AND Xbox 360.
Though the 360 version may well not be $20. But I don't care. It's the best hockey game by a mile and I'll play the Xbox version for $20 for a couple months until the 360 system and 360 version of 2K6 come out.

Ditto. I can't resist getting the Xbox version ASAP but I have to grab the 360 version at launch, too. I'm a sucker for this game.
