So I stopped in my local music store this past weekend for some new strings, and lo and behold, I saw this (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1423446925/ref=s9_asin_title_1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=076Q1VC02W710XM8BHFH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=278240701&pf_rd_i=507846) sitting with the sheet music. After a good chuckle, I asked the sales rep how it was selling and was kindly informed that most people picked it up, leaf through and walk out empty-handed. I told him they should stock it at Gaystops and not music stores.

You nerds and your guitars...

That is kind of lame, but I bet GH and RB get people involved or interested in playing real guitars, so they may see this and try something they're familiar with.

Maybe this means someone will finally put up a decent tab for Cheat on the Church (or even just the first solo).

First of all, congratulations on the epic lulz burn of "Gaystop." Your hard work crafting that one was definitely worthwhile.

I think it's actually a good idea in theory, but most people who are technologically astute enough to set up and play the game would probably just go for tabs online if they did spend money on a real guitar.

I'm just curious how this is lame exactly? It's just like any other tab book that exists in the world except it's got songs that happen to be in Guitar Hero.

And why does it belong in Gamestop instead of music stores? That makes no sense. Chances are if you walk into a music store, you know how to play some form of real insturment. While the chance that the average Gamespot customer can play a guitar is slim at best.

Target market, dear.

The target market is served perfectly by placing it in a music store. The target for that book is simply players of the Guitar Hero franchise that want to learn to play real guitar. They walk in the music store to purchase their guitar and find something familiar to them. This is A-Ok in my book.

Agreed. And you'd also catch the people that already play guitar and want to snag the tabs for the songs on GH. At least in a music store you'd be getting the attention of people that play an actual instrument and would have a use for the music.

The chances of hitting a real guitar player in a Gamestop are low to nil considering the average customer is looking for Mario Galaxy or CoD4.

Let me give the PR to you straight: Guitar Freak A walks into Gaystop. Guitar Freak A has been known to have rather obsessive tendencies in the past - after all, he willingly dropped several hundred dollars to support his Guitar Freak habit. Guitar Freak A returns to Gaystop only to notice that they have something new to support his Guitar Freak tendencies. Guitar Freak A embraces his inner obsession and walks out with Guitar Freak Sheet Music.

The target market for Guitar Hero players is.......Guitar Hero players. Now are Guitar Hero players more likely to A) Go to their local music store or B) Go to their local Gaystop?

If you answered A), you need to be dragged out into the street and gang raped by donkeys. Morons will not be tolerated.

I guarantee that if you sold the GH music book at GameStop (your nickname for it is stupid, by the way) that you'd see close to a 100% return rate when people brought it home and realized that it wasn't a GH guide of some sort? If it even sold at all?

The target market for GUITAR SHEET MUSIC is REAL GUITAR PLAYERS. Not all guitar players are video game players, and not all video game players are real guitar players. Everyone who walks into a GameStop IS a video game player, and I'm guessing the majority of the people that walk in don't play real guitar. Hence why the best place for this particular music book, even with its GH affiliation, is NOT a GameStop.

Even if it's not selling at a music store, chances are it'd sell better there than the alternative.

Except you failed to read my already anecdotal evidence that musicians are walking into their local music store, leafing through the GH sheet music and then NOT buying it. I could easily see gamers buying the sheet music, and then finding some cheap guitar to bang on somewhere. But in the case of EvAv camaraderie, I will concede that short of actually stocking it in game stores, there's no way to know for sure. The only certain thing is that it's not selling to musicians at music stores.

This is a convincing argument... For a failing business model.

Are you going to base your sales on a obsession based impulse buy or actually provide the music to the people that would play it.

OP is losing points with the whole "Gaystop" non-humor and the donkey raping scenario.

you do realize that everyone from ages 5-60+ play guitar hero? so the target market for guitar hero isnt guitar hero players, its everyone/anyone who likes to have fun.also i fail to see how obsessive tendencies is buying a new game that comes out once a year. the game is fun, and the book gives people who dont know how to read sheet music a chance to get into guitar and play it for real. its not a bad idea. and saying "gaystop" makes you sound like a middle schooler.

I can't see why you find this so funny. It seems like a great idea to me. I'm a fan of most of the music in the GH games, so I'm all for them repackaging it in different forms. You just agreed with me! The target market is....Guitar Hero players. As has been said before, many Guitar Hero players don't play guitar. Therefore, they won't be visiting a music store, but they will visit a local game store. Now why would you stack a product in a store where the consumer won't ever see it?

But surely the demographic is GH players who want to learn guitar or get tabs for songs from GH, those people will obviously go to a guitar store for their needs. They're hardly looking for GH players not looking to learn guitar and therefore going to a store which doesn't sell that (ie.videogame store). Not everybody who plays GH wants this but most who do will go to a dedicated store. Not everyone who plays GH is their demographic I certainly am not, I like GH couldn't care less about the tabs so therefore wont be in the market for this.

Because they put it in a store where it makes sense. Honestly, why would you even think someone would think Gamestop when looking to buy sheet music? If Gamestop stocked it would be there only as a novelty.

Exactly. It will sell precisely because it is a novelty. Nobody is going to drive to a music store to buy the Guitar Hero sheet music. The hook is to try and get to play guitar based on their interest in Guitar Hero, not the other way around. If they were smart, they would then stock Guitar Hero licensed guitars (made by Gibson or somebody) in music stores. The best case scenario would be to stock in both music and game stores.

Way to show off your intellectual prowess my friend. Overusage of the word gay dies when you leave highschool, didn't you get the memo?

Anyway. The targest audience consists of three things. First and foremost, people who play guitar, second people who have played guitar hero, and last people who don't play guitar hero, but simply like the songs that the tab book has to offer. Let's face it, that's a pretty damn good set of songs for any guitar player to learn.

A music stores customer base would contain all three groups.

A videogame stores customer base would primarily contain one group, the guitar hero group, it would have very few real musicians, and absolutely no one from the third group.

Not to mention the majority of people who bought the book from a game store would probably be stupid enough to think it was the games hintbook and not an actual score. Seriously, who would think to themsevles hmm, I want sheet music, and drive to their nearest gamestop?

Last point. It's roughly 55,000 on the sales list at amazon. I got bored and looked at tab books for other popular bands, and they are all roughly 200,000-500,000 on the list. Tab books don't really sell that well, but in constrast to other ones, this one is doing quite well.

The OP Picked up the Gay book and chuckled noticeably so that the store clerk could see his obvious attempt at seeming superior to those fake guitar game players. Then he asked the question "is this selling well" of which the answer becomes scientific data that told the story of poor sales figures and missed demographics.
