From Next Generation (http://www.next-gen.biz/):
Speculation concerning the possible cancellation of the PS3 version of the game emanates from reports that US retailers were told this weekend via email that the title would only be released for Xbox 360 and PC, reports CVG.
In a thread on the community forums for the game's developer, an administrator says that an official statement regarding the game’s fate will be made shortly.
"Again, please do not overreact to rumors or, like with release dates, take what retailers say as truth. The timing of this was unfortunate as it was the weekend but there will be actual info shortly."

1. The game never really looked all that unique or cool. I always thought this game would get lost among the sea of FPS games anyway.
2. Not surprising, really. Did you see the NPD numbers for last year on the PS3?

1. Have you played the demo? I had a good time with the way that your death's mattered because it hurt your side, and I also like the remote controlled vehicles. The shooting in it was fine, but the weapons were very much the same old shit. It isn't going to be a million-game seller, but I think this is a fine rental.
2. If they aren't porting it to PS3, it is probably because the cost of doing it isn't worth the potential sales. Some executive looked at those NPD numbers for game sales on the PS3 and at the cost of porting the game to the PS3, printing it on Blu-Ray, and distributing/marketing it. It might just not be worth it to them, or they might be hedging and seeing if the game is a success before putting more money into it.

I think you are right on the money with this one. Eidos held off their PS3 development because of market share (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27753). Back in April, they made a plan to not sell any PS3 games until later in 2008.
We believe that PlayStation 3 will be a successful platform, and are developing technology and products for this console. However, as we do not believe that the installed base will be high enough until the second half of our 2008 financial year, most of our major product releases on the PlayStation 3 platform are not scheduled before that date.
Now, if the PS3 hasn't been selling as well as their expectations, I'd imagine they are going to continue to hold off until the PS3 represents an install base worthy of porting games to, from a business perspective. They aren't alone in this though, as it makes good business sense.

Interesting.
I played the demo on my 360 and enjoyed it quite a bit. Dunno why as I'm not generally a FPS person. But something about this title grabbed me and I got excited about renting it (as much as I liked it I never considered a purchase). As for whether or not it's on the PS3 - I would've gone with the 360 version anyway as I am currently in such a state of SIXAXIS hatred I have a hard time even looking at my PS3 lately.

Never played the demo. I said it never LOOKED all that unique or cool. The demo might change my mind, but I honestly am not even jazzed enough to bother downloading it to check it out. The game looks completely generic to me. I've got a truckload of new games from Christmas that I haven't completed yet, and this game doesn't even register on my list.

This game is fun, and coming from the Desert Combat folks, my expectations are already a bit high. Because of this, I'll hold off all judgement until I play the final. I enjoyed the demo, but want to get into some MP.
But, I figured since CoD4 did well on the PS3 considering its install base, that shooters wouldn't be held back by numbers.

According to the article, they planned on holding off "most of our major product releases on the PlayStation 3 platform", and not all of them.

Seems stupid to hold back a game from a platform that has somewhere over 9 million systems worldwide.

I thought the 360 demo was pretty lackluster myself, but any cancellation is bad news.
What else did Eidos release last year at all, anyway? I didn't think that they had much slated for the PS3/360 anyway.

Why is it stupid? It seems like plain business sense to me.
Please check the NPD numbers for last year if you need details. Pay particular attention to all the PS3 games that sold more than 1 million copies...

I just love the mentality that they think that the PS3 is gonna get a bigger install base but until it does they're not going to release as many games for it. How does one expect the install base to grow if everyone has that mentality?

These are the Eidos games that I can find that appear on the 360- but not the PS3.
Battlestations: Midway
Bionicle Heroes (Didn't Kelegacy recently post some impressions of this?)
Just Cause
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend
Hitman: Blood Money

I agree that it's a bad catch-22, but on the other hand, who wants to dump a few million dollars into making someone else's product more successful?

They are going to let others take the risk of trying to grow it, not themselves. Right now PS3 games aren't selling.

Why should Edios put the effort to grow Sonys install base? This is not their problem, it's Sonys problem.

Right now, Next Gen is reporting (http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8724&Itemid=2) that the Playstation 3's big game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune sold 206,000 in December. To compare, Mass Effect, which has been on the market just as long, sold 401,000 copies for the Xbox 360.

Maybe because software is what grows a systems install base, but you are right. It is Sony's problem.

Yes, but why is their responsibility to do that?

Its the company that owns the system's job to sell the system so they can get the software to sell even more

The demo is fun.
Either way, bad or not, and highish profile game being canceled on any system is not a good thing ever, especially if it becomes a trend. Its telling.
It says much and there is always someone on a particular system that is willing to purchase it.
If its bad 'you' don't have to buy it, but it does not hurt being there all the same.
O well, if true, should'nt hurt the ps3 too bad or at all as long as its not a trend.
This is going to be a fine year with out it for sony's little beast regardless.
But it could of used games like this last year.

Also agree, not a good sign no matter how ya look at it, however its not the highest profile game so should go mostly noticed.
never mind, delayed.
Good to hear, perhaps extra dev time will make it even steven with the 360 instead of just a crapper port.

It's odd that they're saying it was delayed, as it hasn't been set to ship at the same time as the 360/PC version for a while. Why the hell do I know so much about a game I don't even care about? Man, I pay too much attention to the industry.

If a game that you knew nothing about...
on a console that you do not own...
is cancelled and you don't even know...

Not necessarily. Cross platform games are not selling as well on the PS3 as they are on the 360 and not just because of the smaller install base. A smaller percentage buy them on the PS3. Like I said before, porting a game to the PS3 costs money in paying developers to port a game, then marketing, printing it, and distributing it. So it might make since for a title that is by no means a sure thing to hedge it's bets and only release on the 360. If it is a surprise hit, then I'm sure it will get a PS3 port.
