Here's some of the information gleaned from the Famitsu Scans:

A few details are emerging from people who have read the latest issue of Famitsu (which is yet to be released officially) including a good explanation of the background story in Final Fantasy XIII. Motomu Toriyama, the games director also comments on the year ahead and the possibility of a playable demo sometime this year.

The blue sphere seen in previous scans has been confirmed to be the floating city Cocoon. Cocoon was built by a superhuman entity called Farushi/Falsh (ファルシ) to protect people from the threats of Pulse. People chosen by Farushi/Falsh to carry out some kind of mission are called Rushi/Luci (ルシ). Both the Blond haired man and Pigtailed girl are Rushi/Luci. Summons come to the aid of the Rushi/Luci and appear in "digital form". The entity that built Cocoon is not the Crystal.

Toriyama says that the games theme is "determination" and that he'd like to give players the chance to play a demo of the game in 2008. It's unsure whether he means a demo at a games convention or a public release.

It's supposed to be for mobile phones, and that's all I know. It's still connected to the FF13 universe through the crystals, but as for gameplay or story I have no idea.

Look, I'd like to fight off mitochondria, and time travel with my robot and frog friends, but those games were never released on Xbox and there is a 80& chance they'll never see release on 360. My point is that Final Fantasy for some reason or another hypnotizes people... Even my mother (no kidding) is excited for the next Final Fantasy game. FF is to Japan as GTA is to America = Crack; and we all know what happens to crack... it gets traffic into other countries and people become addicted.

Its crack I tell you... CRACK!!!

Actually, if I recall correctly Dragon Quest is the prefered Square game in Japan. I know what you are saying. I hear you. The only way I was able to get the 360 was by telling her that I was able to get it for half the price that it usually retailed for (this was when it was still going for $499 Canadian for a Premium... I did the trade-in thing at EB and got it for $239).

Same with the PSP. Traded in a stack of games and paid $12 out of pocket for it.

I got 3 consoles last year, so I've been effectively cut off for this year as far as new systems go.

Back when the PS3 first came out, my wife came home one day in a fit about it. I guess someone told her the price and she knew my history of gaming, so she assumed I bought one. I had to reassure her that I would never spend that much money on a gaming console. So yeah, I won't be buying one either unless the price comes down. :)

I was an avid Sony fan-girl. I even defended the PS3 over 360 through all the crappy-graphics rendering of PS/PS2 games, the crashes, the poor multiplayer interface. But when they launched at that price and I played Oblivion for the first time on 360 (while they were still trying to figure out how to stuff it in the PS3), I turned...sorry, but paying a lot more for a lot less is just not worth it. (And we all know blu-ray is going to fail....) :mad:

Unless HD-DVD can really pull a rabbit out of their butts over the next few months, I highly doubt that we'll have the two formats at this time next year aside from a few stragglers.

Although I have started seeing a lot more ads for HD-DVD over the past week. They've really got to get the word out and try to convince people to go with that format if they want to survive.

FMV or not, that's some hot shit right there. But I have to ask: why do so many of the males in the FF games have spiky or irregular hair? I mean, we see real-life hairdos like some of them these days, but not without some massive amounts of hair product.

And yeah, character models look very VIII to me. That's not a bad thing, though.

The hair thing is because manga (and anime) had a huge influence on japanese visual design and elaborate and colorful hair makes it easier to differentiate characters that have to be drawn quickly and printed on cheap paper. Imagine if all western games were styled after Image comics (ugh, Soul Calibur II flashbacks). Instead western games are all the same color as Quake.

By the end of this generation, I definately will own a PS3, if only to have some kind of high-def DVD player in the house. That said, my wife did say something along the lines of her taking the kids and leaving if a PS3 came in the house before the end of the year, so I might have to hold off until next year :)

Of course, if she left with the kids, I'd have a lot more time to play games... Hmm... Nah.

Get it on ebay like I did, saved 150 bucks and the system was brand new, no tax. Someone without a doubt is selling it on ebay near you. The seller met me so I didnt even have to pay shipping

I updated the opening post, added the HQ translated versions of V-Jump scans, added the Famitsu scans, and posted some information that's been gleaned from the Famitsu scans. Reworked it so it shouldn't be so troublesome to view the images themselves.

Heads up, I added the Translated Famitsu scans, which don't really give any new information, and I added the Famitsu PS3 scans. The Famitsu PS3 scans are essentially the same images we've seen before, just bigger and without so much text covering them.

I had a PS3 reserved and waited in line for another at Walmart. My original intention was to keep the cheaper 20GB model I had reserved, but I sold the one I got at Walmart for $2,000 so it was too tempting and I ended up selling the 20GB for $800. The main motivation for selling both was because I was working as an adjunct at the time and had no health insurance and I had a lot of medical problems last year. I ended up spending well over $3,000 in medical costs w/o ever even finding out what the problem was.

Fast forward two months later and I'm browsing in Best Buy. I see my partner, who doesn't play videogames at all, up at the checkout with a 60GB PS3. I go up to him and ask him what he thinks he is doing but I know very well what he is doing. Complaining did no good. I came home with a PS3.

Ah, digging this out of the grave. Added Shonen Jump scans, which are supposed to have images from the latest SE event, and supposedly may have gameplay in there.

I went through and found that a lot of the links were now dead, I did my best and managed to replace all the links, though some had to be replaced with lower quality versions (most notably the V-Jump translated scans).
