...other USB cameras? Do they work on the 360, or do I need the "authorized" gear if I want my crazy mug on my Burnout license?

I got my camera in an Xbox Live subscription kit. It came with a camera, a headset, Uno, some other shitty game (Robotron?) and a couple hundred points along with a 12 month subscription card. It was like $60 or so at Sam's Club.

Also, I don't know the answer to your question. Sorry.

And you both posted at the same time. Hilarity!

But he did give him advice on where not to purchase it (fuck stores affiliated with Walmart!).

I'm pretty sure it's Live Vision only. Not that it helps, but the PS3 supports any USB camera, including the Live Vision camera. Damn Sony and their proprietary systems.

I know When the live vision camera first came out other USB cameras didn't work.

The Live Vision camera works really well and it's really inexpensive considering they usually bundle in another Live headset (comes in handy) and/or other stuff. Check eBay for some really good deals.

From all that I can find (here and the internets) it looks like I'll be buying one. Hmmm... maybe I'll just grab one when I pick up Burnout. I'm sure EB has some used ones.

I bought some other Microsoft branded webcam... Never tried it with the 360. No one knows if it will work?

I'm with you, Sazime. I've been mulling the idea of getting the Vision Camera over in my noggin for a few days now. It's been pretty much useless until now but I'd love it for Burnout.
I wish I could plug my old Eyetoy camera into the 360... that'd save me some dough.
Hmm... I'm looking now and I see that I could get the camera by itself for $49.99 or with a 12-month subscription to Live for $89.99... I think I'll just pony up the dough and get the Live + Camera bundle for when my subscription runs out in May.

I'd say just chip in for the Xbox Live Vision. It's pretty decent quality - I've used it both for its intended purpose and as a backup for my shitty PC cam. Like everyone has said, it comes with a headset and either one or two games, so it's kinda worth the money.
I always tell people you get three games free, since Totemball is a free download that you need the camera to play. :D

I tried to play Totemball once and was completely appalled. I seriously couldn't even get it to work.

Totem Ball is definitely on the worst games of all time top 10.
