Ok, point and laugh all you like but I'm getting some pretty bad connection issues with Second Life. During the day i don't have any problems but during peak times, no matter which area i'm in i get huge packet loss to the point where i can't move yet generally my ping for everything else is absolutely fine. It's the same any night i've tried and i can't seem to resolve the issue. I've tried chaning the connection settings for bandwidth, lowered the graphical details but it appears to be client side from what i can tell - except *shock* i'm the only one affected.

Seriously, never had this trouble before... Oh, and feel free to leave humiliating messages below as to how there are better things to do with my time.

If you wish derision, I can provide:

$econd Life lag issues? Sounds like a message from on high to stop playing; aborting rape-babies would be more productive.

Note the innovative use of a dollar sign in $econd Life's name, to indicate that the game's purpose is not to provide entertainment that you're willing to pay for, but to get you to pay for what other games would just give you.

You must have testicles the size of basketballs to admit that you play Second Life.

Do you run McAfee anti-virus? I noticed alot of lag after the last update, apparently it had stuck a defrag into the scheduled tasks and kept doing it while I was playing WoW causing pretty bad video and network lag. I went to Control Panel> Scheduled Tasks and sure enough it was there, deleted it and all was well. Other causes might be spyware (AdAware is pretty good at finding out if you have spyware or malware and they have a free version), if you are using a router maybe someone on your network is using bittorrent, also could be iTunes, I've found their software is made in such a way that it uses up like 99% of the bandwidth to get the file downloaded as quickly as possible killing anything else you might be doing on the internet. Of course it might be as simple as the other 2 people who still play Second Life logged in at the same time as you did. :p

yes yes yes, lots of amusing posts but thanks for the help Sensei, i think i can check all those boxes, still got the issue.

Anyway, the reason i'm asking is cos my mate in london is trying to convince me SL can be awesome somehow. So far i've witnessed bad animation and some terrifying scenes involving humanoid animals. Sounds like a bad excuse?

And my balls are the size of melons, not basketballs. Melons.

Second Life was a kick ass idea and its current state of affairs kind of makes me sad. There's so much potential there in being able to create 3d models and scripts and stuff in a virtual world...alas, it's all porn and casinos now.

I agree, the concept of Second Life intrigues me to no end, but in practice it's ...something else.

I just can't help but think of Snow Crash and what could be...instead we get the current state of Second Life.

As Adam would say: "Well there's your problem!"

It's SL. It's always a nonstop rain of connection issues, lag, and bugs, because Linden spends all their cash on marketing the living fuck out of the piece of shit, instead of actual R&D.

That's what you get. They don't give a shit about the game, they just want to milk you for as much cash as they can before you get pissed and leave like everyone else does. It's how their whole damn business model works.

After Shawn Elliott's two weeks straight of Second Life griefing, I am thinking about starting an account.
