View Full Version : PS3 Broken?
I was playing Uncharted last night when I got to a cut scene and the game froze. I shut it off and turned it back on the system would not recognize any Bluerays or Games.
So I get pissed off and step out side to have a smoke. I come back in and try the system one more time and this time it sees the disc. When I got to the same spot in the game it froze again. So I decide to sleep on it and deal with it in the morning.
I fired it up this morning and worked for about 30 minutes before it started doing the same thing.
Any of you guys have any ideas to try? Because I am going to be livid at Sony if I have to send back my ps3 before I finish Uncharted.
System is 40GB model.

I only had Uncharted freeze on me once. After a reboot, I didn't have any other problem.
Sucks yours is giving you issues. Maybe you can exchange the disc where you purchased it... tell them it is defective. If the problem happens with the new disc, it is an issue with the PS3.

Have you had any issues with any other games?

Yeah, not looking good.
The weird thing is the first game(Ratchet and Clank) I tried this morning played fine. But after the issue happens with Uncharted it takes a while to even read a disc again.
Sounds like I am doomed huh.

Blue Ring of Death?
None of this would be an issue if Uncharted wasn't so DAMN GOOD!

I used to have a PC game that did this. After I played it, everything else I put in my CD ROM would stall out. I would have to reboot to get everything going again.
Of course, it turned out to be that Starforce copy protection was the culprit.
I doubt that's the issue with here, but it still sounds like something about your copy of Drake's is killing your console.

Root Kit?
I called Sony and ordered my PS3 coffin. I dont know which is worse my 360 breaking after 1 month or my PS3 breaking before two months.
Maybe I need to rethink this whole video game hobby.

Buy a PC, they're broken before you even open the box....

lol
sorry bout your issues, seems you have bad luck.
wanna play some poker?
The best part is my 360 is getting ready to go out so I thought I would buy a PS3 for the meantime. DOH!
I bet when I fire up the 360 again it will RROD.
As far as poker is concerned my bad luck usually doesn't follow me there.

I see a common thread... YOU! Sorry about the string of bad luck. Things break, fortunately the companies that make them will fix them for you... For the first year or three. I've had two PCs die on me this year... And yet my grocery store bought 360 keeps on trucking.

I have terrible luck with electronics lately, so I feel your pain. My 360 has been unreliable since fall, though no red rings. DVD drive is at fault.
My car has an electrical problem. Odometer won't register a single mile, my speedometer doesn't work either. ABS is a no go. I'm getting ready to trade it in instead of fixing it. I need something better in the winter anyway.
My new HDTV, well, new in September, is defective. Brightness doesn't work right, television is very dark when you start it up (have to wait for it to warm for close to an hour to kick out of it) and sometimes weird colors flash all over the screen so you can't see anything. Usually magenta colored. A replacement is supposed to be delivered to me today. They have yet to show up.
My home PC is a pile of buggy shit. Hard drive is dying, my dvd drive/burner doesn't work, it locks up frequently, and it still has spyware or something on the registry, since I cleaned it a million times and have got rid of everything but this one bug. I could probably fix it if I really put some effort, but I gave up months ago. Short of reformatting my hard drive, I doubt I'll get around to fixing it anytime soon. My laptop is my main machine these days. The PC has been retired as a wireless hub.
Our semi-new coffee maker started giving up the ghost a couple weeks ago. The clock doesn't work, timer, anything. I have to start it manually, and though it still brews coffee, it takes forever and I can't program it when I go to bed.
I messed up my girlfriend's dad's wireless network while trying to sync their ipod touches to the internet on Xmas. I had to go back the next day and fix it.
There are other things around here that are dead or dying because of my recent bad luck, but I can't think of all of them. I've stopped being surprised when something breaks or short circuits. I have resigned myself to being cursed.

Does Uncharted save a big chunk of game data on the Hard Drive like many other PS3 games? You might want to try deleting the game data (not your save game!) and then reinstalling.
Also, I learned from my own personal PS3 refurb experience that you want to sign into your account preferences from your old PS3 and deactivate the PS3 from your PSN profile before shipping it out. (If you are into the game sharing at all you know that you get 5 PS3 activations on each PSN profile - if you do not deactivate your PS3 before shipping it off that is one less person you can share with)
edit: deactivation instructions:
To do this, login as the account you wish to deactivate and go Account Management -> Account Management -> Activate System -> Playstation 3 (This System) -> Deactivate System.

I will try both when I get home. Hopefully that fixes it.
