Apparently someone jumped the gun over at the Rockband DLC Page (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/marketplace/r/rockband/january2008tracks.htm) on Xbox.com. Luckily Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/01/16/xbox-com-lists-rock-band-dlc-through-january-oasis-smashing-pu/) was on the ball and managed to snag a screen of the last two song packs coming this month for Rock Band.
Week of Jan. 22: Oasis Pack (440 MS points/ $5.50)
* Don't Look Back in Anger (160 MS points/ $2)
* Live Forever (160 MS points/ $2)
* Wonderwall (160 MS Points / $2)
Week of Jan. 29: Progressive Pack (440 MS points/ $5.50)
* Siva - Smashing Pumpkins (160 MS points/ $2)
* Working Man - Rush *Cover* (160 MS points/ $2)
* Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial) - Coheed and Cambria *Cover* (160 MS Points / $2)
Oooh. I'll be all over the Oasis pack.

I'm really sad over the fact that all the Rush songs are covers, especially given how poor the vocals have been done. Geddy Lee is one of those singers that is difficult to imitate but that's exactly what the cover singer is doing. Honestly I think they would have been better off just letting the singer do his own thing rather than trying to force himself to sound like Geddy. Optimally they could have just given me the damn original.

I want Rockband just for the Progressive Pack. I might just skip a few meals to grab this one...

Holy crap! Ten Speed (Of God's Blood and Burial)!
Noooooo! Its a cover!!!!

So they can get a master track for "Welcome Home", but not "Ten Speed"?
How does that happen?

I'm tempted by the Oasis pack. I grew to hate Oasis during university as my housemate would play them over and over and over again, but I did like their earlier stuff and Wonderwall isn't all bad.
I think I'll skip the progressive pack though. It looks scary :)

Master tracks are far less important, imo, for Rock Band being that the vocal track just gets sung over or replaced anyway. If you're playing without a singer, then obviously it's a bigger deal.

Fie! That's not progressive! Well, Rush is, I suppose. Never could get into their sound, though.
Oasis might be good for really drunken games. (;

Yeah, I'll be getting both packs, but when I think about the "progressive" genre I don't exactly think of Smashing Pumpkins. Oh Dream Theater, where for art thou?

mother FUCK that shit. my right leg kills after playing some of the Police tunes. If I had to play along with Mike Portnoy's stuff, my leg would fall the fuck off.
EDIT: I can't wait to get hammered and sing the shit out of "Wonderwall"

Oasis Pack = awesome. Almost every week so far there's been at least one song we want to download, though I don't know if we'll be getting anything from the week of Jan. 29.

yeah, Portnoy'd send us all back down to medium difficulty.

While the Oasis songs might be fun purely because everyone recognizes them, none of those songs are particularly interesting so far as arrangement and instrumentation goes. The GF will probably make us pick it up anyways... chicks dig the 90's pop-rock.

I have to say these packs have the least interest in them for me out of everything release so far. Only song I'm looking into here is Rush

QFT. If I could pre-order these I'm sure my girlfriend would be on it already. Not that I wasn't gonna buy Oasis anyway.

Why they don't sell songs like iTunes do?? In terms of price..?
MosBen
01-17-2008, 08:40 AM
Do you mean, why do these songs cost more than buying them on itunes? Well, because you're not buying the song, you're buying an intereactive level for a video game that just happens to be based on the song. It takes more work to produce, therefore it costs more.

Yeah, tell me about it... I'm not a big fan of the covers, but am a big Rush fan. Really wonder why they couldn't get the rights - licensing issues with the label? Or the band itself? Guess we'll never know.

I like Wonderwall, so I'll probably get it.
Wow... really? I'm the only one who thinks that Oasis is garbage?!?
Honestly, not trying to be a troll with all the Oasis love in this thread, but man. The vocals in Wonderwall are terrible. Just awful. There. I said it... I feel better now.
I'll make the same argument I do with Pink Floyd: can anyone point me to one Oasis song that really rocks? Cause I haven't heard one yet.

Isn't the guitar in Wonderwall acoustic. I like the song, but it seems like an odd pick for Rock Band to me.

Alright, Working Man is an awesome song, but where the fuck is Spirit of the Radio!? There are quite a few Rush songs on Rock Band. Hopefully, Spirit is next!

TWO Pink Floyd song that will rock your fucking socks off: Young Lust and Run Like Hell. Hope you enjoyed that bit of schooling and don't worry about payment; my clinics are free. ;)
(don't know much Oasis beyond their singles so you got me there)

It's not always a rights issue.
In many cases it's because many old recordings (the original master of "Working Man" was recorded in 1974) do not have instruments on separate tracks. Eg. Both guitars may be on one track.
For instance, in Guitar Hero 3 you can't play "Paint it, Black" by the Rolling Stones in coop because Neversoft chose to use the master which had all the guitars in 1 track. To make matters worse because of that choice if you mess up in the guitar track all the guitars (bass/etc) drop out, not just the lead.
Harmonix I'm sure in that case would have chosen instead to cover "Paint it, Black" instead of using the master. Personally I'd have rather had a cover that I could play coop then the single player only version of "Paint it, Black".
It seems more often then not the older the recording the more likely you get a cover.

Very well. I'll look them up when I get home. You're the first person who's actually given me an answer! My best friend loves PF and always gets mad when I tell him how they aren't really a ROCK band.

I'm patiently waiting for them to release "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". That guitar part would be awesome to jam to. The vocalist though, not so much.

You're not necassarily wrong though, Pink Floyd's style is much more grander than that of you're typical rock band with their songs being more about fitting into the grand scheme of the whole album rather than ready for radio singles (which is what makes them so awesome). If you like those two then check out The Wall, the album both of those are from.

I'm really disappointed that the Coheed & Cambria track is going to be a cover. With that said Claudio's voice, especially in the last 30 seconds of that track, is so unique that I'm actually curious to hear someone attempt to imitate it.
Should be interesting to say the least...

My group of rock-band friends have been waiting for The Darkness since the first day we played Rock Band. I Believe in a Thing Called Love would be the obvious choice. We'd also love to see Get Your Hands off of my Woman, but there's serious doubt they'd put it in due to language.
I'm still on a high from STP's Interstate Love Song. Oasis I might grab a couple of, but the others I have no interest in. Thank God too. My wallet needed a break.

If they put a STP pack that included Sour Girl, I would be an extremely happy person. :D
I'm still kinda hoping they'll put out a goth pack to go with the goth wardrobe. Now THAT would make my whole day. A little Cure or Bauhaus wouldn't hurt anyone. :D Heck I'd settle for some Depeche Mode.

yeah man, they pulled out a great one with ILS. I'm really surprised at how much fun that song by The Monkeys is. Even if you didn't know that a lot of the developers were actual musicians, you'd know they had great taste in music.

I bought the monkeys song purely because of my mom. She was a huge fan and so I grew up hearing it in the house all the time. Next time she visits I'll have to show her.

It would take some serious digging to find something that wouldn't be too hard (or half piano). Off hand, I've got nothin.
Thinking on it more, Harmonix needs to add a keyboard. ;)

Oasis was an overrated band with a couple of good songs but lacked real substance as I think they all they wanted to be were the beetles

I guess it depends on your definition of "rocks". While I love all of those tunes, I bet he's thinking more guitar driven, up tempo songs. Admittedly, a lot of Floyd's music probably doesn't meet that narrow definition of "rocks". Whether a song that doesn't "rock" in that sense would be fun in Rock Band is another question. I for one would love to play Comfortably Numb with my Rock Band band, The Rash.

That's exactly what I mean... by rocks, I mean the kind of song you throw in your car stereo on a sunny day to drive around with the windows down.
I'm not saying Pink Floyd isn't talented, I'm just saying they don't rock. At least not in any song I've ever heard... well, Money is close.
I am however saying that Oasis isn't talented! :D

ill defend oasis since i like them.. do they think they are more awesome than they are? yes.
2 weeks ago we were listening to oasis and thought dont look back in anger would be perfect for RB. And i mean 4 people playing perfect.. so exited for that
PLUS for all you who only know oasis singles.. Noel is singing that one and he has a much better classic voice than whiney Liam. This song i liken to interstate love song or buddy holly; perfect for parties.
I am so all over Siva, but i must ask why, there are so many string bends in that one! you can emulate that with the RB guitar. I'd rather have I am One or Rhinocerous from that album. Since im such a pumpkins nut i would love:
Zero
Where Boys Fear to Tread
Quiet
Geek USA
Starla
Soma
Mouths of Babes
bunch of others out there too..
hell since they have acoustic, why not Disarm, Landslide (cover)
I would love for the White Stripes' You Dont Know What Love Is to come out. Thats another mild difficulty song that would rock at parties. It's new, and a single, so hopefully chances are good! But hell any song by them would be great. Even the Raconteurs shit would be great.
Man i am going to sink so much money into this game its not even funny.

Rock Band needs the following tracks:
STP pack - Big Empty, Sour Girl, Plush
Pink Floyd pack - Run Like Hell, Dogs, Young Lust
oh...nm, yea, I will def get Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Working Man. Possibly SIVA.

I'm just happy they don't have Champagne F'n Supernova in there. Lord almighty, I loathe that song with the hatred of a thousand angry suns.
Live Forever is a fun song though, as is Supersonic. I wish they had the lounge version of Wonderwall as that version was just too funny, but I might still snag the whole pack.

The Monkees. And I would love to have more from them. A 3-pack of The Monkees' Theme, (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone and Pleasant Valley Sunday would result in such a joygasm.

Give Working Man a listen. It's one of Rush's early songs and it has a bluesy bar-band feel.
