LOL

The first game I went to try out (President Forever) only offers a demo, and wants 12.95 for the full version...

So much for free... I thought this was actual free games, not demos.

Beelzebud - It says pretty clearly if the listed games are free to own, try, or add-on at the top of each page...

Considering you were in the 'FREE TO TRY' section, your complaints are irrelevant. Go to the 'FREE TO OWN' section for full games completely free of charge.

Also, might I recommend www.gamehippo.com to anyone else interested in freeware. Sure it is a tad unorganized, but every game is the full version and every game is free and legal.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering... along with where Monkey Island 1 and 2 were, or even Sam & Max.

What the other people said.

No free versions have been released, I'd guess? I could be wrong.

I'm glad to see I'm making people lose jobs. :D

Yeah! Where is my sam and max? Can't forget Grim Fandango either! I was so happy I found a copy of that sitting at a yard sale Unopened. I got it for a dollar. :D

That definitely hasn't been released for free yet. Heh.

I bought a copy off Amazon used last year. Unfortunately, it won't run on XP. :(

I run Grim Fandango on XP just fine. Infact I played it last night.

Same here. One of the major problems with newer computers [including mine] is that hyperthreading severely conflicts with the game, resulting in crashes, not starting, sound cut outs and a bunch of other super stuff. Turning it off quickly alleviates those problems. So if you have a processor with hyperthreading, that is more than likely what is going on.

Trust me - they are not as updated as they are made out to be. They are simply tweaked to run smoothly on newer computers. Still worth it for free though.

Mind getting it to work for me then?

Aha. I think that probably is the case. Now if only I had a clue how to turn hyperthreading off.

Aha. I think that probably is the case. Now if only I had a clue how to turn hyperthreading off.

1. Restart your computer and enter the system setup or whatever it is called on your computer. This is usually done by hitting one of the F? buttons. The exact button should be displayed somewhere on screen during the reboot.

2. Navigate the menu and disable hyperthreading.

3. Save settings and exit.

Your computer should function just fine with hyperthreading disabled, so there should be no need to switch it on and off everytime you play Grim Fandango. The only real reason to re enable it is if you are planning on doing some pretty hefty multitasking.

Well, I tried them out and they look pretty good to me. Then again, it all depends on how you look at it. I'm comparing these games to the originals... not Half-life 2!

Hrm. And here I thought hyperthreading was a good thing. You're sure I don't need it?

SCUMMVM man.

Er... with Grim Fandango? Are you sure? I'm gonna go ahead and say I'm 90% positive that won't work.

Hrm. And here I thought hyperthreading was a good thing. You're sure I don't need it?

It is a good thing when it comes to heavy multitasking as I previously mentioned. So if you are planning on running Photoshop while working on several Word documents and surfing the web, then you will see noticeable perfomance gains with Hyperthreading enabled. However, for normal everyday use it really does not make a difference. To use some anecdotal evidence, it was literally months after playing Grim Fandango that I realized Hyperthreading was disabled and the only reason I noticed was that I wanted to play through the game again and went to disable it, only to find that it already was.

Those looking for free versions of Monkey Islands 1 & 2 should look into a back issue of PC Gamer which came with a disk full of free games. These games included the first two installments of Monkey Island, Ultima Underworld, the original Ultima, and Wing Commander among others that I can't remember at the moment.

Well, it is common for me to be working on several word documents, have at least one web browser open, be running Windows Media Player, and be logged onto AIM, MSN, and sometimes Yahoo all at the same time. :p

I find it odd that they mentioned Crimsonland (http://crimsonland.reflexive.com/crimsonland/) in the blurb for Counterstrike 2D but never actually listed it. FOOLS!

Gunroar (http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~cs8k-cyu/windows/gr_e.html) deserves a mention here, especially if you liked Warning Forever. It plays best with a dual stick gamepad.

Anyone able to get cloudphobia to actual do some besides look like a scroll cloud screen saver? The only button that works is ESC to exit. Since I am dying for a new shooter (Sold Gradius V, haven't picked up R-Type Final yet) I really would appreciate any assistance.
