£299 would be a rip off if the console launches at $299 in America.

At minimum the exchange rate will be $1.6 to £1, so £299 is about $480!

$299 actually translated into sterling would be about £190.

hmm if it is to be priced at £299 it will be as I have predicted.. I would be happy to pay this, though if you convert this into dollars it would be $530, but don't worry.. the exchange rate doesn't usually effect the price.. we in the UK just have to pay much more... almost double..

Welcome to PAL pricing gentlemen.

Releasing this year would cement MS's place in the PAL territories as the best bang for our buck, sets a precedent for the time it takes for games to get to PAL with the Xbox 360.

i fully expect an extortionate price in this territory, as per usual. one reason that games haven't become as mainstream as in the US is definately the $1 = £1 exchange rate. however, it's hardly like games and game consoles are the only thing we're ripped off on.

i'd like to say it was because they need to be imported, or something as sane as that. but these will presumably be put together in china like most other consumer electronics, so that's a moot point

It's a shame, really. I wanted to be part of the release day fun, I wanted to queue up at midnight for it, but with a price like that I just won't be able to. Thanks a lot Microsoft! I hate you! :D

It probably won't drop in price until after christmas, too :(

people always complain about the price...but look what you get for your money..compared to say laptops, consoles are very cheap in real terms, because making money from the hardware isn't a goal, but making money from the software is, unlike other hardware devices.

So I guess it could be worse.

Jesus Christ. Already I'm thinking of buying it even though I know I'll never use it, just like my XBox1 and Dreamcast.

There is some logical bridge missing in my mind. I sit here and slam consoles every chance I get. Then I buy them and don't use them. I'm such a whore.

Hmmm. 299 is a decent price point - especially when considering how expensive past consoles / machines were at their time of launch (taking inflation etc into account).

I think the xbox is an amazing device, doubly so when you consider who it was made by, so count me in for the 2nd version.

What bugs me is that after Christmas they're bound to knock at least £50 off the price. >_<

If they do a straight dollar to pound conversion I'm gonna seriously consider importing. Even with import charges, I've never had to pay more for PC games I've bought from the US, so I reckon I won't lose anything by doing it with consoles.

But wouldn't it be in NTSC? Or does that not apply with High Definition?

The whole NTSC thing is a myth, any TV you buy these days will happily do both at whatever rate you want. Sadly MS is far too region happy to ever let a console that can play games made for it exist.

Yeah, I understand what you are saying, but I'd personally always go for PAL over NTSC.. :)
