Gameinsider is carrying details (http://www.gameinsider.com/comments.php?id=864&catid=1) on the latest mouse released by Razerzone, called Copperhead.
Razer's new Copperhead mouse is probably the most precise navigation devices money can buy at this time. According to the specsheet, increases the supported resolution from currently 1600 dpi to a record 2000 dpi. Speed motion detection is rated at 50+ inches per second with a response time of 1 millisecond.
Another unique feature is 32 KByte integrated memory allows gamers to carry up to five different personal configurations on the hardware itself. This eliminates the need for the installation of drivers, if users choose to use the device on more than one computer. The mouse also comes with a customizable weights system, seven programmable extra-large non-slip buttons and can be personalized with a variety of face plates.
I feel like the bottleneck's the precision of the human hand rather than the mouse's resolution. I doubt my hand can move 1/800 of an inch let alone 1/2000. 7 buttons sounds pretty nice though.
Yeah, I think design has replaced dpi now. It's all about comfort and button placement. MX1000 is tops for a general PC mouse, it is close to perfection for non gaming. Kind of sucky for FPS games though, good for everything else.

I really hate MX500, it's way too big and heavy for twitch shooters. So I use the wireless keyboard with a cheapo mouse; still pwn ass

I am happy with my mx700. Personally, I always wonder what the gain from the increased resolution will be.

I actually read about this the other day and turned up this "leaked" info:

Here's a whole bunch of photos showing the mouse from every angle:

I was looking to buy a diamondback when I stumbled across the info about the copperhead... Now I'm going to continue using my old MS intelieye until the copperhead is released. In this gamespot article (http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-21730-2416-x-x-x) it says; "The mouse will be available in late August with an MSRP of $79.99." So I just hope my old MS mouse can hold out until then :)

You have to experience a high resolution mouse to really appreciate it. I got an mx518 after using a cordless mx700 for years. The 518's ability to change resolution on the fly is very useful for games like BF2. You can hop into a tank and swivel the turret around much faster and more easily than with a regular mouse. The cord is a pain in the ass though; I really wish someone would make a good, high resolution cordless mouse. I'd love to try out a Razerzone mouse just to see what the difference was between it and my 518.

I'm still using a generic ball mouse, which I find superior to the laser, only because I've found that lubricating the ball improves performance tenfold -- and the fact that the mouse is a very comfortable soft rubber.

So it's the Diamondback (http://www.dansdata.com/diamondback.htm) plus 400 dpi (useless) and onboard memory (arguably useless).

Not to nitpick too much, but wouldn't it be more appropriate to say this is from Tom's Hardware? Yes yes, GI has the article linked on their frontpage, but TH broke the story.
It would be more appropriate not to post articles that give traffic to Tom's...

I'm looking forward to the shity named "Fatal1ty" mouse from Creative, they still haven't shown it off yet, it might be pretty damned cool, I'll probably buy it even though I have a great 510mx right now, I just have a "cool reliable mouse" fetish it seems.

I had two Logitech mice (Both ball ones) before changing to my most recent one, the very simplistic and very comfy Intellimouse Optical 1.1. I didn't like the sidebuttons at first, but they quickly became good to use.
The biggest reason I like this mouse, though, is because it's not only for right-handed people like 90% of the mice out there today. It is very fucking annoying.

I have a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer. Once I figured out the reason for the lag (Monitor set to 80hz, messed with the receiver), I have to say I'll never go back. I went through so many wired mice, and only because the wire would get kinked or broke where it enters the mouse case. I'll never go back to a wired mouse again, my only complaint with this one is that it goes through a set of batteries in like two weeks, and the drivers that are meant to warn me when the level is low never seem to bother doing so.
But a good set of NiMh solves that pretty easily.

I can't stand wireless. I get interference on my phone, or the mouse looses signal to the receiver (which is a whole foot and a half away) right when I'm in the middle of a game. I have zero problems with a cable, so I'm going back to it.

I see no point to a wireless keyboard or mouse. All I need is more things to charge/replace batteries on. Wireless mice are bigger, heavier and require more maintainance than my wired mice. As for the keyboard. It just sits there. There's even less reason to have a wireless keyboard than there is a wireless mouse.
I have a USB hub built into my keyboard, mouse and joystick plug right in and I'm happy.

Yeah, I second that. I'm right-handed but I've found I definitely prefer uniform mice over the ones slanted for my hand. This is what I have now:

And I've had it for like, 3-4 years, the lamination is actually worn off the buttons where my fingers rest. So this Copperhead mouse looks like a good replacement.

I have an MX1000 and been using it for about 8 months now. As far as I'm concerned its the greatest mouse ever. I had a mx500 before this and it was pretty darn good but the mx1000 is better. Its wireless but of a very good quality. I've never lost the signal, heck I can sit 10 feet away and not lose the signal. It has a built in rechargable battery so no need to buy refills. It also uses a laser instead of the ye ol infared. No idea where it ranks on the precision chart compared to this new mouse but I doubt it can be of a noticible difference better. The only thing that takes getting used to is the mouse wheel. Its softer touch then the mx500.

I dig the wireless mice. I have a short keyboard tray, so a cord gets caught waaaay too easy. This mouse does look sweet though. I just hope it's not too expensive.

See, this is where I'm in a bind. I really want to go wireless and I've heard just great things about the MX1000 but at the same time, I heavily play FPS' on PC and want the best possible hardware for the ultimate experience -- from video card to the mouse -- is there really a huge difference from the MX1000 to one of Razer's current mice?

Bandersnatch-
I love FPS games. They are easily my favorite genre, and clearly the mouse makes or breaks your FPS experience. I've been using an MX700 (the MX1000s predecessor) for a couple years now, and it's every bit as responsive and accurate as any wired mouse I ever used.
I recommend the MX700 and MX1000 absolutely without reservation.

I'm still loving my Viper, so I don't really see much of a need to switch up to this fella. Viper has plenty of precision for me, keep the res nice and high, I'm good.

For FPS's the MX1000 is to heavy and there is a fraction of a lag time when you pick up the mouse an put it back down. I think the MX1000 is the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I don't use it for FPS games. I have a MX510 I switch to when I am playing games.
The thing about the 1000 is it's so damn comfortable, the buttons are layed out real nice and the functionality is fantastic. You also only really need to recharge once a week.
The best mouse ever is still the MS IE 3.0 Mouse. It has an ok DPI but high refresh rate. I recently bought an mx518 which I'm now getting used to. If that doesn't work out I'm back on the IE3.0 mouse. Pro players still use that mouse .. and the majority ive seen interviewed prefer the old MS IE 3.0 compared to the new ones.

With skates, weight doesn't matter. One could make an argument about mass and inertia, but it'd really be pushing it.
With the right sensitivity and size pad, you shouldn't be picking up your mouse while playing. I never have to. I suppose if you had to do a bunch of snap 180s, and always did them in the same direction, you might hit the edge of your pad. I usually macro that anyways. I just checked my mx700 for that lag time you're talking about when picking it up, I don't get it anyways.
Maybe you're talking about how high you have to pick it up to stop it from tracking when you recenter it on the pad? That makes a recenter take longer on an optical, no disagreement there.

I think you're right man. IT's like running your game at 200 fps or 300 fps on your 100 hz refresh rate crt.

Amen! I have two (home and work) still going strong. I tried an MX500 (I think it was, the first MX that was released) but couldn't get used to the contour since I've been using the same mouse for 5 years now.
My only complaint is sometimes it freaks out and goes the wrong way, though I think that's because I'm using it on a wood grained desk. That and the feet have completely worn off on one (need to get some of those teflon replacement feet).

When it starts freaking out and going the wrong way it's because it's too old. The same thing happened to me recently and I had to get a new one. (Which was annoying to find out after hours of tech support from ATI and Gateway.)
