I saw National Treasure and it was good, but not as good as the first.

AVP was better than I thought it would be.
Babies...ha. It pulled no punches.

I agree with sprankton and karak on both movies. National Treasure was entertaining enough, but not as good as the first movie. AvP was a great slasher movie. No one is safe, not even children. Still, the series should get time warped forward a bit if they keep going. I'd like to see space marines thrown in the mix.

I am Legend has a really impressive total. More than a Disney movie? The book was much better, as I'm sure you all know. :D

I saw Juno yesterday. A very well acted movie that is just a nice movie to watch. Not necessarily a "chick flick", but I did see it with my girlfriend and she also enjoyed it immensely. The whole audience left smiling.

Went to a 10:30 showing of Juno on Friday, and the theater was nearly sold out. Great show, and it's good to see it doing so well!

Well the first was better than The Davinci Code(book and film). I have yet to see the second, but it will not be hard to live up to that epic legacy.

Everytime I think of Nick Cage, I get this image of him having imported Asian concubines in every hidden space in his house, garage, and trunk of his car, much like Quagmire in one of the Family Guy episodes.

Well, it could be worse. At least Juno is doing pretty well considering.

Also, that film has a bitchin' soundtrack.

Strange. Every time I think of Nick Cage, I think of that ... one scene in The Weatherman. 21 minutes in.

Also, how is Juno (for those who have seen it)?

Nah, just wasnt as good as the first one.

The fact that the bad guy was not really a bad guy. How they got into the Oval Office was kind of blah. The history puzzle solving was not there, it just ended up being a spelunking adventure to a city of gold that really was boring to say the least.

And they did the best job trying to ignore Native American folk lore and history as much as possible.

I just can't believe anyone thinks the original was a good film

I don't know. A movie about an ad-based email service?

I am very happy at how well juno is doing. It is just getting more and more money in and more and more theaters I would think? Or maybe just most tickets per.

Whatever, it is a very good movie , plain and simple.

Why do you hate it so much?

I hate that a Nicolas Cage "deadpan but not by choice" performance combined with a stupid storyline and some shoddy as fuck writing actually made so much money simply because it managed to tick enough marketing boxes to get people to go see it when stuff like Charlie Wilson's War isn't getting people's money.

I hate all of you for not making Sweeney Todd the top rated movie. My god that movie was incredible.

I am Legend was pretty great, and National Treasure was...fun, but not nearly as good as the first.

Also, how is Juno (for those who have seen it)?

I'm one of the few people I know who saw it and didn't really love it. I just couldn't get behind the writing. Even with some good actors delivering it, it was just trying too hard to be hip, and I say that as someone who really likes Wes Anderson movies. Because of that, and some other issues with character development (or the lack thereof), I had trouble investing in the characters, which made the plot of the movie seem pretty shallow, particularly given the subject matter.

On the other hand, I went in with pretty high expectations, so that probably didn't help. And most people didn't have this problem, though the friend I went with did as well, so you may really like it. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, it just didn't work for me.

I'm glad Juno's making a good showing. As long as Judd Apatow is making solid money, there is hope for comedy movies.

I'm glad Juno's making a good showing. As long as Judd Apatow is making solid money, there is hope for comedy movies.I can see why you might think that with Micheal Cera involved, but actually Judd Apatow has nothing to do with this movie. It was directed by Jason Reitman, who did 'Thank You For Smoking'.

I just couldn't get behind the writing. Even with some good actors delivering it, it was just trying too hard to be hip, and I say that as someone who really likes Wes Anderson movies.I thought the same thing at the beginning (especially the scene with Rainn Wilson) but from about the scene where she talks with her parents until the end, they dropped much of that 'cutsey/hip' talk and started having some really good and and well-characterized dialogue.

It depends upon my mood, but I usually lean toward 'movies as entertainment' rather than 'movies as art'. At the end of a hard day's work, I really like putting my brain in a jar (metaphorically) and just enjoying myself.

National Treasure is fun to watch, and I'm not going to torture myself obsessing about inconsistencies or lack of 'artistic vision'.

I enjoyed I Am Legend and really want to read the book after hearing a lot of people complain about changes. I was hoping to see Juno, Charlie Wilson's War, and Sweeney Todd over the holidays but didn't get a chance. Seems like movie-fans are being overcome with the same deluge of worthwhile products as the gaming community.

There Will Be Blood = Awesome. You might as well give Daniel Day Lewis his Oscar right now.

I love Paul Thomas Anderson and can't wait to see this. The general opening is on January 21 for those without access to a hoity toity sophisticated theater.

I guess I have no interest in seeing a movie about a "smart" girl who gets pregnant at such a young age. I'd call that retarded, which is an epidemic in this country. No amount of praise will change my mind.

As for National Treasure, it did so well because it is good ol' disney family fun over the holiday season. Simply good timing. I saw it, but the whole time I was watching it, I was wishing I was watching No Country for Old Men.

It's not playing in Portland? That ain't exactly the boonies.

I'm a fan of PTA's good movies. Magnolia was a huge misstep IMO, but this one is right up there with his first two movies, if not better.

No amount of praise will change my mind.Thats just a stupid statement. Even if the judgmental first part was true, why is a movie being about a stupid person not worth seeing? By that logic Oscar-winning 'Sling Blade' and 'Forrest Gump' aren't worth seeing, while 'Baby Geniuses' is A-OK.

I hate to be the guy speaking out against Juno, as I do think the movie has a lot to offer. I will say, though, that when a character is presented as so hip, put-together, smart, and wise beyond her years that it's inconsistent for her to be so dumb about sex. Even Knocked Up handled that better.

I thought the same thing at the beginning (especially the scene with Rainn Wilson) but from about the scene where she talks with her parents until the end, they dropped much of that 'cutsey/hip' talk and started having some really good and and well-characterized dialogue.

I'll admit that it was less bad, but lines like "Thundercats are go!" still took me right out. My complaints about the overbearing hipness wasn't just about the dialog, but also about other character traits. Just as one example, it felt like Juno's specific music and movie obsessions made much more sense for the 30 year old writer than for the 16 year old character.

I'd probably still recommend the movie as I seem to be in the minority on this and it's certainly something different. It just didn't work for me.

I personally found it strange that Juno is PG13 and Sweeney Todd is R. No big deal, but my parents would've been much better off with me seeing throats being slit than a teenage pregnancy when I was that age. I'm sure that Juno's very clean other than that primary film concept, but still.

Ha. That is my point. She is stupid. But the movie synopsis claims she is witty. You cannot be an intelligent pregnant 16 year old this day in age. You're primary goal until you are 18 should be to have fun and finish school. I doubt being pregnant is fun and it doesn't help with school. Now if the movie synopsis said that some retarded girl got pregnant at the age of 16 and comedy ensues, I would be willing to watch it. I loved Forrest Gump. I suppose the next cool movie will be about military intelligence. Oh wait...
