TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com/) has posted a hands-on preview (http://previews.teamxbox.com/xbox/1140/NHL-2K6/p1/) including in-game movies and screenshots of NHL2K6.
Release Date: 09/13/2005 (PC (http://www.gametab.com/pc/nhl.06/4406/), XBOX (http://www.gametab.com/xbox/nhl.06/4407/), GCN (http://www.gametab.com/gcn/nhl.06/4408/), PS2 (http://www.gametab.com/ps2/nhl.06/4409/))
The game sounds like it's shaping up pretty well. But I am still leary of some of the new NHL rules, I guess it will make for an interesting season.

Speaking of hockey, dammit the Wings let McCarty go! But at least the fightin' Shanahan is signed for another year.

Really? Which one(s)? I'm really I rather recent hockey fan (past 4-5 years) as opposed to a lifelong football fan, where I know I get uptight about rule changes each year. But these rule changes seem as though they'll create a more exciting game, with more scoring, which the NHL is desperate in need of in order to attract new fans. The only rule changes I think are kind of odd are the ones on penalty kills, particularly icing the puck.
Go Preds! Everyone in Nashville is ecstatic/shocked that they signed Paul Kariya today.

I was thinking about the rule of goaltenders cannot handle the puck behind the goal line, except in a restricted area and that tie games are decided by a shootout. Yeah, I'll go to bed earlier instead of the staying up to the second or third OT but I think it takes away from the whole game when it comes down a shootout but that's just my opinion.

Don't worry Everlost_Mi. As we all know Calgary is a far better team to be on =)

2nd or third OT only happened in playoff and champ games. the old rule had if after 1 five min period the tie wasn't broken the game ended as a draw. There wasn't any 2nd or 3rd OTs. The shootout simply eliminates the draws.

Right but that's my problem with it was on the big games it would come down to a shootout.
Unless the new rule doesn't apply to playoff and champ games...? If so, then I have no problem with it.

Grrrrr....!
;)
But seriously, don't go see McCarty and his rock band Grinder play when he comes to live/play in Calgary. They reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally suck. The band, not Calgary just so I am clear.

I was assuming it wouldn't apply in the postseason.....
And I got no sympathy for the redwings having to pick and choose which of their allstars they are going to be able to retain. Another thing I'm real excited about is playing division rivals 8 times now. There should be some absolute hatred, for my example, Nashville/Detroit and Nashville/St. Louis now.

The shootout rule is a regular season rule only. It comes after the 5 minute 4-on-4 overtime period.
Playoff games still go 5-on-5 overtime, where marathon games are OK because the games MATTER.

Oh don't get me wrong, I live in Michigan but I am a Bruins, Pens and Leafs fan as well as a Wings fan. It's nice to see the Wings balance out their roster, but I think they should have dumped Yzerman and Chelios and kept McCarty. Yeah, I pay for the Yzerman comment but he's old and can't produce like he used to. This is his last season and it's going to be weak as hell.

Oh, and news posters, PLEASE learn that there is a difference between "NHL 06" and "NHL2K6". They are two completely different games (technically one is NHL 2006, but when you abbreviate to "NHL 06", then one will reasonably assume that you mean NHL 2006).
This article is about NHL 2K6, and should be titled correctly.
And don't blame me - *I* didn't name the damn games.

Yzerman signed for $1.25 million. At that price, he is cheaper than McCarty, who was closer to $2 million. Scorers of Yzerman's caliber are signing for much more than $1.25 million all over the league. He can't produce "like he used to", no, but he can sure as hell produce well beyond $1.25 million worth. And I say that as a Kings fan that loves nothing more than to see Detroit forced to dump fan favorites.
They definitely needed to lose Derian Hatcher, who was a shade under $5 million.

Thanks for mentioning this. I thought it was the EA trash so I completly ignored the link to the article. Perhaps I will check it out now since it's for a real hockey game.

Oh, yeah? Just as the Blues have been destroying the Wings the past 10 years. Or has it been the other way around?
I still think EA puts out a better hockey game. The the 2k series just doesn't feel right.

The EA games are way too easy and redundant. Seriously. Too bad we're all fucked now.

Not enough open-ice hits for you? Last year's game with the right-stick checking was RIDICULOUS. Hit anybody, anywhere, physics be god damned!
Skating in nice big S's was also every bit as effective as, say, dump-and-chase or anything else resembling actual hockey.

Don't forget Pavol Demitra. Between those two, that's over a hundred points skating out the door.

McCarty was actually almost 3 million. Mark my words he'll be back this year or next at a much cheaper price.
I can't believe Everlost you said to get rid of Yzerman...what he provides is intagible, it's not just about his point production. I still can't believe the Flyers got Forsberg, and got rid of Roenick.
Anyway..good to see a lot of hockey fans on here. Anyone interested in doing a fantasy league?

I'm down. Again, my hockey knowledge/understanding kind of pales compared to my football knowledge, but I'll give it a shot.

Before the Wings bought him out his contract was like 2.75 million a year.

No, McCarty was due to make $1.71 million (http://www.freep.com/news/latestnews/pm5208_20050726.htm). Keep in mind that this figure is AFTER the 24% salary rollback that was a part of the new CBA.

Yeah, he's making $800k IN HIS NEW DEAL (2 years, $1.6 mil) with the CALGARY FLAMES.
Detroit bought out his contract, which put him on the free agent market.

Yeah, I know Yzerman's the "soul" of the team but for one more year is it really going to make that much of a difference? I am still bitter they traded Federov off years ago. (Not really but I still enjoy watching him play) :)
The way things are lining up for the Flyers I think they are the team to watch this year.
Put me down for the fantasy hockey league.

Alright...Yahoo's not quite set for Fantasy Hockey...says they should have it up soon. I'll create it as soon as it's good to go.
