JoWooD announced today that it has cancelled the Stargate-SG1: The Alliance development agreement with Australian developer Perception. Reason for the sudden termination is that Jowood was not happy with the current state and quality of the project, will instead look for another developer, and possible move the game to next-gen consoles.

While I'm glad to see we won't get a piece of crap game (at least this gen it seems) I was really looking forward to this. The screens looked good to me, but I guess since I never played it, I don't really know. I just hope it comes out for the 360, and we can have huge battles online.

I can't wait for the Pierre Bernard's Recliner of Rage screed about THIS development!!!

^---- me in the stargate at E3.

I should have spent more time looking at this game while I was there. It looked pretty good from the tidbits I saw, but then some recent screenshots, I think it was of the PS2 version, really threw me for a loop because they looked so fucking bad.

I think I should build a stargate in my backyard... maybe just a mini one like that one episode.

How disappointing. I hope it's next incarnation is a good one...

From the trailer the game did look terrible with horrible framerate.

JoWood wasn't happy with the quality of the game? Wow, the it must have been truly horrible because pretty much every JoWood game has been craptastic.

It's funny because it's true. Although I really do want a SG game now

I hope it really does get a new developer that will pump out better quality and not just get shelved.

This game looked great... Kinda like a opened up Riddick... I was always hoping when the series ended there would be a MMORPG... I know everything in the world is MMORPG now and that ass, but Stargate SG-1 and Pokemon oddily enough seemed like great mmorpg

The PC version shown at E3 looked pretty good, especially for a somewhat older engine. Maybe they can jump to the Source Engine, Lith-engine, now that they will most likely have to start from scratch.

And not ALL Jowood games are crap, Spellforce for instance is an awesome RPG/RTS in my book.

Even better, maybe they can team up with the Duke Nukem Forever team to make a truely great game ;-)

I'd rather have a bad game stopped and the concept properly done by another studio, than the crappy game released and the property tarnished as video game IP.

I dont know what you morons are going on about, Jowood has made a lot of fantastic games. Gothic, gothic 2, arx fatalis, and so on.

Exactly.
Granted, I'm not the biggest SG-1 fan but I'd hate to see it get a typical tv/movie-to-video game treatment. It's easily one of the best sci-fi shows out there right now and if it's going to be used as the basis of a video game, it needs to be done properly.

Personally, I'd rather see it get indefinitely delayed(and potentially canceled) than get a sub-par game that would only be trashed by the press and promptly forgotten.
If it's going to be done, it needs to be done properly.

You would've had to pile shit on top of that thing to distract you from how craptacular it looked/played!

It looked like a bog-standard FPS from 4-5 years ago. As a matter of fact, it looked like an Unreal TC by some students with little to no time.

Now maybe we can get a good game... someday.

I hope it switches genres too. I love Stargate, but really don't need another damn FPS.

They could easily build a huge franchise on top of this IP. They could have an MMORPG (just take everything from the series and build on top of it). They could have an FPS like Battlefield with stargate vs "system lords" etc.

I've always thought stargate would be amazing if a company got it right with a videogame.

Woah. A shame. I know a guy that worked on this, I should probably ask him something about it. However, I doubt he'd know anything as he was 'just' a contractor. It always struck me as odd at the way the development was being carried out (from the tidbits this person told me).

I haven't been anally raped like this since seeing the new season of Stargate SG-1!

I'm enjoying the new season, personally. I dig Beau Bridges as the general and how the other main characters are kind of floaters right now, nothing's nailed down. Giving me a better sense of continuity.
