Prey is serious, dark story, based on authentic Cherokee mythology. Themes of sacrifice, love and responsibility are explored and the story dives into emotional territory not yet explored by similar games.
Prey tells the story of Tommy, a Cherokee garage mechanic stuck on a reservation going nowhere. His life changes when an otherworldly crisis forces him to awaken spiritual powers from his long-forgotten birthright. Abducted along with his people to a menacing mothership orbiting Earth, he sets out to save himself and his girlfriend and eventually his planet.Check the 3 new Prey screens (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=27215) over at WorthPlaying

Prey looked good at E3. Granted it was just a trailer but I liked the look of the levels the bad guys the weapons the portal's etc. Sorry I'm not with it enough or kewl or what ever to bash it. What I saw looked good. One level sticks you in a ship flying around blasting stuff. I'll admit the Indian looked a little wooden GET IT WOODEN....ah nevar mind..

Who wouldn't want to save their own skin, rescue their hussy, and then liberate the planet?
(Probably in that order, too.)

I liked how the E3 trailer showed lots of gameplay, I know someone that went to E3 and he said he thought it was the most impressive game there. It's hard to believe Prey is actually coming out and that it looks pretty good, gives me a little hope for Duke Nukem.

Yeah, I know I should wait to judge the game until it comes out. But if I had to form an opinion based on the screens that I've seen, and if this is a serious story based on real Cherokee mythology, I can only infer that Cherokee mythology is sucktastic.

You havent seen the videos, screen shots do not do this game justice.
I would say all your opinions are invalid untill you have seen the e3 private trailer thats over 20 or so minutes long. If you dont think it is impressive then i honestly dont know what you kids today want out of games.

Really? You mean to say Cherokee myth had mutants and alien zombies in it? And they're hostile? In fact is there such a thing as friendly alien?

Do they really need to portray him as a big loser? Not to offend any EA readers who happen to be American Indian mechanics named Tommy, but do we really need to use a protagonist who embodies multiple negative cultural stereotypes to promote 'authentic' Cherokee mythology?
oh, and for the record, the Sacagawea coin bugs the shit out of me too. Why don't we be honest with ourselves and put 'Manifest Destiny' and "Smallpox" on the obverse of the coin?

ever live on a reserve, its pretty damn depressing, why do you think that so many natives drink themselves to death?.

Well, to name a few:
There was "E.T.",
The aliens from "Close Encounters",
The alien guys from "Earth Girls are Easy"
"Howard" from "Howard the Duck". Of course, this is only friendly because he wasn't hostile. The movie itself was dangerous and evil because it was so bad.

DirtyHarry's comments about seeing the E3 demo are entirely accurate. The game looked amazing. There's the possibility of some of the things being entirely gimicy (the wall walking pad things), but there's a lot of new and interesting gameplay elements in it (the whole death then reincarnation thing).

Well at least they ditched 3DR's lame ass stereotyped name: Talon Brave
I am not kidding. Back when this was 3DR's project, that is the name of the "hero".
Talon Brave... /me pukes.

I hate to break it to you, Beelzebud, but I think the name they choose (over Talon Brave) is Tommy Hawk.
The game looks nice though -- barring any horrible mistakes, I'll probably end up buying it.

Superman is a friendly alien.
This game is a retarded alien who was exiled from his planet to terrorize earth with crappy game ideas and horrible, old game ideas that lake uniqueness.

Yeah, I hate those Native American mechanic stereotypes.
But a game like San Andreas which has you playing as a black gang member who murders people is okay.
Honestly I think the game looks/sounds interesting. And yeah, it probably resembles "authentic Cherokee mythology" about as much as Doom 3 represents authentic Christian mythology, but who cares? I think it has the potential to be a really positive thing (it also has the potential to be a steaming pile of shit, but seeing as how NONE of us have even played the game, and apparently most of us haven't even seen it in motion the hostile reaction it's recieving hehe seems unwarrented).
If you're white you probably don't think about it very often, but stop and think about the number of main characters in video games who aren't white (of course that is if they're even human). Sure there are some, but when the most famous black main character in a video game in recent memory is CJ from San Andreas that's not the most encouraging trend.
And no I'm not big on affirmative action or idiotic pollitical correctness, but I think some diversity is nice every once in a while, and if these guys can pull it off without being condescending or insulting, then all the power to them.

It's Human Head Studios. I don't care about the storyline: none of their games had one.
On the other hand, I expect first-rate gameplay and original level design.
The "based on Cherokee myths" concept is indeed bizzare but on the other hand the Maya Indians had predicted an end of the world and were drawing pictures which curiously resembled spacemen. Nothing is impossible.
Oh yeah: if this is Doom 3 with light, then Doom 3 can be called Pong with guns.... and Pong is an advanced light switch. Prey does look like a step forward: It has some nice ideas and guess what? It's not another WWII shooter. And for all I know, the character could be named Dee Dumbass and that wouldn't change anything.
