Major Nelson has announced this week's DLC for Rock Band which is available now. (http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2008/01/01/rock-band-tracks-various-1-1-08.aspx) Each song will cost gamers 160 points.
Gimme Three Steps - by Lynyrd Skynyrd (original)
Hard To Handle - as made famous by The Black Crowes (cover)
Limelight - as made famous by Rush (cover)
I tried Gimme Three Steps and Limelight with a full band and they were both very fun, the guitar chart on Gimme Three Steps is especially fun.

RUSH FTW! One of my favorite bands.

A European release date would be fun. If all this downloadable content is available at launch over here, I will cry tears of joy. My wallet will also cry tears, although they won't be tears of joy.

maybe I'm reading it wrong, but only Gimmie Three Steps is an original, the rest are covers.

You are reading correctly, that's why it says "as performed by" for those two, I edited it for clarity though.

Have they ever put up those full albums that they were promoting before release?

Have they ever put up those full albums that they were promoting before release?Nope, but they get a pass for having more DLC in the first three weeks than the entirety of Guitar Hero 2 and Guitar Hero 3 combined. That said, I'm itchin' for Who's Next.

Ermm... wouldn't "performed by" imply the original artist performed the track, and it was not a cover ? Did you mean "as made famous by?"

Hard To Handle - as performed by The Black Crowes (cover)
Hey little thing let me light your candle 'cause mama I'm sure hard to handle, now, gets around...
Damn, I am now officially excited to get back home from the holidays and play Rock Band with my buddies!

Rock Band DLC rocks...it's so unexpected as of late. I had no idea that these 3 would popup. I hope the next Rush track they put out is Red Barchetta.

Dethklok full album please? Pretty please? And final Euro release date would be severely cool. And don't localize the track list for the retail release like the wiki entry threatens with.

Original Limelight? I might have to pick that up.

Original Limelight? I might have to pick that up. Cover Limelight, and the vocal track is serviceable at best.

His voice is too distinctive for a cover in my opinion for a cover to work.

Biggest cash cow in 07/08: Rock Band.

Lead singer of Coheed & Cambria could pull it off pretty flawlessly, if you ask me.

Seconded! If they released Dethalbum on Rock Band, I'd probably go and buy it that instant, rather than waiting until after I get GHII.

Everybody always wants Dethklok for download. I like Metalocalypse a lot, but the songs are much better fits in Guitar Hero, not Rock Band (in my opinion).

I rather don't understand when folks complain about covers in Rock Band. You or one of your bandmates is going to be singing on top of it anyway. Unless your band has no vocalist, in which case you ought to find one. Rock Band is pretty fun no matter what, but it's hard to match the energy of a full band rocking out.
I'm still waiting for more New Pornographers, myself. Electric Version is okay, I guess, but I really want to play Bleeding Heart Show and Use It on the drums.

Well, isn't "Hard To Handle" a cover of a cover since it's not a Black Crowes song? Shouldn't Otis Redding get credit for it?

It would fit well with either game, really...besides, I know my friends and I would have infinitely more fun with it if we all got to play a separate instrument or belt out Nathan Explosion's lyrics. I, for one, would love to do that.
Plus, Rock Band is just so much better than Guitar Hero 3...

I assume this is where the "As Made Famous By" tag line comes in. Their cover is based off of the Crowes version specifically, so there's no need for information past that point. :)

Two of the three news songs hit the right spot with the wife and I. Gimme three steps is one of my all time favs and we had to play it several times. The wife loves Hard to Handle and again we played the shit out of it.
Also we downloaded Move along and Dirty little secret by All American rejects. Both songs are pretty damned fun and I suggest ya check em out on Youtube before ya DL em. Also their only 80 points a piece so it won't kill the budget... good lord I sound like a fuckin commercial.

I picked up Skynard and Rush. We really need to see some Sweet Home Alabama.:D
I also got the 30 seconds to mars songs last week. Harmonix is doing a good job with new titles every week and I'm glad it's not going like GH2/3 did GH2 had little to no DLC and GH3 has nothing but garbage bands I've never even heard of.

I may pick up all three of these. Rock session tomorrow. Group vote to see what the "band" wants to play lol

The rest yeah I'd have to agree with you.
