In the Game Update Notes (http://guildwars.com/news/gameupdates.html) on the Official Guild Wars site, James Phinney talks about some of the changes and new content coming to Guild Wars in the near future. There will be new content for Ascended players, some "play balancing" on certain builds as well as a new Observer mode and faster character advancement for gaining faction XP and rares.

I am all over the Observer mode. Finally a chance to see some of the high-ranked guilds in action and to learn from their strategies. However, I owuld not be surprised if the mode is not "open" It'll be by invite or password protected.

I'm assuming it'd be like observer mode in any FPS, where you can set it for either.

This is good news, I'm actually excited to have internet in order to log onto Guild Wars now.

See, I bought it after WoW and still didn't play it much for the same reason. I still haven't done a lot with it, my main is only up to 11 or 12, but I figure with no monthly fee I have no reason to feel bad about playing it in small chunks.

I'm in the same boat, but I check in now and again to see what's going on. As it stands, nothing to make me spend my limited amount of game playing time on it, beyond the initial novelty, but for no monthly fee, yeah, still alot of value there for the future. The 'faster character advancement' sounds promising.

I just got GW the other day and so far its pretty good . I like it way more than WOW. I was in wow last winter but I don't think I will go back. To me wow is just like alot like every other mmorpg just done a little better (in most ways). I got bored of it real quick. Guild wars maybe be kind of a "MMORPG lite" but I think I will play it (off and on) for some time.

I am glad they are trying to balance the classes. I plan to do some pvp eventully.

Yeah, I was afraid that they'd have to resort to some rebalancing. The problem is that some things (like melee damage) have plenty of counters, while others (like spirit spam groups) don't have easy or direct counters.

I hope that they balance through addition rather than nerfing. Like I could see them add a new spirit spell for rangers that keeps anyone from casting spirits within its radius, and causes gradual DoT to existing spirits in that radius. Not as devastating as the skill which blew away all nearby spirits in the beta, but still, it'd let conventional groups fight spirit groups without having to play whack-a-mole.

I could also see them giving a few more of the warrior adrenaline abilities the "can't be blocked or evaded" attribute. That would turn conventional warrior builds back into scary beasts, and force groups to bring some more diverse warrior counters (empathy, shield of judgment, various necro stuff). But right now, aegis+ward against melee is too easy a counter against the entire class.

I can't think of many other points of balance which are problematic. Air eles endure in popularity, but protective spirit and spellbreaker are a solid defense against them. Smite groups can be rough, but mesmers and necros can dismantle those. All within the normal flow of game balance.

I wish the RPG part of the game wasn't so deadly boring to me. I got to 8th level or so and was just sitting there grinding my teeth, thinking "where is the fun, where is the fun, where is the fun".

It sounds like once you unlock the spells and crap, the PvP part is a gas. Too bad I'll never make it to that.

I pre-ordered, played the betas, never got into it, never got my pre-order paid for, lost the EB receipt. Completely forgot about the game until news got posted here :D

My greatest mmorpg experience was playing ultima online at like 12 years old

I dont even think I did a single quest, I just fucked around with crafting and theiving in the cities

Guildwars just doesnt have that freedom, you kill shit and thats it

WOW is a little better, i only have a lvl 20 pally but my smithing and mining is as high as i can get it

Doesnt have the same time waisting possibilities as UO but its closer than Gw. Id like to see some test servers where you could just fuck around with pvp and maxed out characters like UO had when i played.

Err, you can do that on the real server... unless you mean with WoW. :p

Ahhh. Seems that most people would just mess around on the test servers then and miss the "point" of the game.
