Yeah, talk about a great deal! I have to see if it is one per household, otherwise I am getting two.

Whooo! If I hadn't switched to SATA during my last upgrade I'd be all over this.

Maybe we should have a forum for deals? I don't think this deserves front page...

Are you kidding? If this wasn't on the front page, I wouldn't have seen it. While I'm at work, I just glance at the front page several times a day to see if there is anything new.
Good catch on the rebate.

mail-in rebates suck!
good luck getting your money back without a phone fight with the rebate house.
anyways, tvgm2 is right, this is definitely NOT front page worthy.

Can't say I have ever had a problem with rebates that I have actually sent in...

Rebates are always a mixed bag. Some people have no trouble, and get their rebate within a few weeks. Some don't get them at all. It really depends on the company.

I love seeing stuff like this on the front page. Why such a story is responsible for me being the happy owner of Metroid Prime 2 for only $14.99. PLEASE keep it up.
Just bought two of these like a mug.

Um, went to look, rebate is one per household. So you might want to cancel one of those unless you know how you are going to deal with that part. Post edited to reflect that too.

I have to say that I've never had a problem with rebates. Sometimes they take forever, but I've never had to fight for one. ::Knocks heavily on wood::

With my last Best Buy rebate, I didn't get my check for so long I called and yelled at Best Buy. They sent me a check themselves, and then later I got a check from the manufacturer too. That was sweet. Just be sure you scan all the receipts and the UPC from the box or you might end up with no proof and no rebate.

I've been fortunate not to have problems getting the few rebates I've bothered with over the years, but some do take a long time.
I personally don't mind the occasional blurb about this on the front page (I too would never have known about this particular deal otherwise), but a dedicated forum might not be a bad idea either :)

Hate Best Buy? Maybe, but not enough to pass up a $40 HD like this...

Best Buy is very good about mailing rebates. I've never had to have a "phone fight" with anyone - in fact, they once sent me a $200 rebate check even though the rebate had already expired when I mailed it in.

No, you're supposed to hate the floor jockeys who push extended warranties on everything. The store itself is pretty nice, as long as you don't have to talk to anyone directly :) $10 CDs on release day? Yes, please.

Never had a problem here. A lot of people don't fill them out right, which is why they don't get the rebates back.
For those of us with the luxury of living on the West Coast we have Fry's Electronics and they have deals like this every day. Ive found the prices at Fry's have sometimes even been better than newegg because of shipping. And no i dont work for Frys :-p.

A few years back I took a summer job as a "floor jockey" at Best Buy while I was still in school and if you think the employees choose to push all that crap then you need a lesson on how retail works. I still don't hold it against them that they like to sell all those warranties, they just don't make much money on a lot of the electronics unless it's like a plasma TV but they did pull this trick in the PC department where I worked that made me kind of feel bad for the customers.
They would distribute clipboards to each of the PC sales guys that had a checklist of all the stuff they wanted you to try to get the customers to buy. Printer cartridges, USB cables, battery backups, extended warranty, online training, broadband internet and a bunch of other stuff. Basically there was no way unless you are Bill Gates that you would be able to afford, or even want all the stuff on these lists. Yet they forced us to offer every last bit of it to every customer to the point that it would piss people off big time.
The icing on the cake though was that they would offer this free setup for every new PC. All the tech guy really did was take the PC out of the box turn it on and run through the windows setup screens, but it was really a ploy to get you to talk to a tech guy so he can push all the same crap on you all over again. They figured, that way anything the sales guy didn't manage to force you to buy the tech guy could try his hand and see what else he can get out of you.
I don't know if they still do this anymore or not because it sure made people mad but that's just food for thought for the next time you think to blame the sales guy for offering you junk.

According to Google, Best Buy is phasing out their mail-in rebates. Apparently, there is a limit to how much can be redeemed per month: once the amount is reached, no more rebates sent out.
