According to this (http://forums-en.wow-europe.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-role-playing-en&t=47833&p=1&tmp=1#post47833) thread on the World of Warcraft forums, it looks like there's a RP-PVP server coming. Many players have been asking for this for quite a while, it's nice to see that Blizzard is listening to its fans.
Note: The forum is for Europe, so whether or not we'll be getting the same type of server in the US isn't guaranteed. But I'd be surprised if it didn't happen here too.

I'm almost 90% positive I heard this announced on the WoW messageboards at least a month ago, before I quit the game. Either way, I think it's fairly good news. I'm not an RPer, but if I wanted to play on a PvP server I'd definitely choose the RP one just because I think it'd be easier to avoid morons.

It's about time. A shame that RP in WoW is nearly nonexistant. I for one never break character.

Last time I broke character was at an 83' sci-fi convention when a security guard asked me to remove my strapped-on robot meat missle and coconut helmet.

RP is non-existent on the RP servers? I've only played on one for a brief period of time, but I always got the feeling from talking around that WoW had a pretty strong RP community underneath all the B.Net kids.

You should be more than 90%. The link is to a post dated 7/1 :)
Obviously they're taking their time.

Well, not based off this example anyway. ;)

RP-PVP! Hurrah! Now when undead rogues gank and corpse camp me they'll also say "Har har, I am feasting on your corpse!". Not that it'll matter anyway, since, y'know... Blizzard decided in beta that the two sides shouldn't be able to communicate at all except with /spit, /wave and /hug and felt it was a good idea to remove the common language. Yeah.

Might have kept some of us around months ago. As for me? Sorry, little too late.

What does the "RP" in RP-PVP stand for?

RP = roleplaying.
There are already role-playing servers and PVP servers, but none that are both.

What with my desire to always learn new things, I was going to ask the same thing. Then I decided just to make up definitions.
So, I think RP is either a Role Playing server or a Racial Prejudice server. (Like the one in Halo 2.)

BAH... I break not only my character but everyone elses as well... Call my friends by they name... Ask other characters where they from... I've to have someone tell me they were born in Darnassus... :-P

Expecting to see Role Playing in any Blizzard Game is like expecting to find Pictures of Melissa Ethridge Giving a blow job.

So "role-playing" would be, more specifically, taking the idea that you are your character more seriously, instead of it being just an avatar?

Pretty much. On role playing servers Blizzard will actually enforce certain guidelines to character and guild names. So you won't see guys running around named NeatoFella.

And that 90% of you would be wrong. On CC, we have what is known as RP-Lite (Yes, Lite) for those that cannot truly commit themselves. This is the main reason I miss CoH.

The really funny thing about this was what happened on the US forums when it was mentioned on the Euro forums. There was a huge thread full of vitriolic hatred against Blizzard and then against all of Europe, up to and including the rallying cry of the poorly-educated American Euro-hater, "we never should've saved you in WW2!"
I don't know what's worse, the fact that people were dumb enough to think that Blizzard would roll out the server type for Europe and not for the US, or that a videogame can inspire such blind xenophobia.

Not to be out done by the poorly educated Euro-America haters. Don't kid yourself bucky stupidity exists on both sides of the pond.

Ya, there are "roleplayers" on WoW. It's just too bad that they're retarded. Besides the frequently badly thought out characters, they also like to say crap like, "I'm a 34th circle warrior!" instead of just marking their OOC and telling someone that they are lvl 34...
One of the hardest concepts for newbie roleplayers to grasp seems to be that their character doesn't have stats, none of the other characters have stats either. I don't walk around saying that I have a strenght of 84 and I'm a lvl 60 Geek, neither should my character.

At least one positive move CoH made for roleplayers was giving them something "in character" to call levels with "security levels" that made some amount of sense story-wise.
Anyways, my personal experience with RP'ers (from various games) is that 3/4ths of the time they're pretty ridiculous and seem to be bad fantasy writer rejects. In addition they often play badly, but it's harder to yell at them for it since you need to stay in character. But that 1/4th of the time when that's not the case can be quite golden.

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of that. I enjoy pointing out stupidity in all it's myriad forms.

If you don't then you are clearly not a lvl 60 geek.
