Killer Instinct 3?

Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/335944/rare-teases-killer-instinct-3-with-christmas-card) is pointing out a little hint on this year's Christmas cards from Rare....in their new Christmas card, which not only features Viva Piñata stars Hudson Horstachio and Fergy Fudgehog alongside Banjo and Kazooie, but a teaser stocking that reads "KI3." Clearly, it's in reference to the Rare fighting game series Killer Instinct which hasn't seen a release since Killer Instinct Gold hit the Nintendo 64 over ten years ago.

God I loved KI2 in the arcades. They could at least bring that to XBLA.

I love the KI series - it played great even without the ridiculous combos. The controls were tight, the characters were cool and balanced, and the presentaiton was fantastic. I even liked KI Gold on the n64 - so much that I got blood all over my n64 controller after continuing to play with a blistered thumb.

i second that. My favorite fighter of all time was the arcade version of the first Killer Instinct. For some reason I just really fell in love with the series, and the graphics for its time were so much better then anything else.

I have been waiting for a proper sequel for so long, I hope this is true and they do it right.

Even better would be if they were to include the ability to unlock an arcade port of the first KI. That would be insane! Or in a special edition pack. I would pay any price. :D

When I was in Vegas last April, the casino we stayed in had a small arcade in it and they had a KI machine. I played the hell out of that thing. :)

Although I didn't like KI2 nearly as much as KI, I'd still play KI3 in a heartbeat.

I guess that means I'd probably have to buy a 360 though - I don't see Rare putting KI3 out on the Wii or PS3.

It is not like we really need to mention that Kotaku is pointing out this hint. It is in giant letters right in the middle of the screen and everyone is always clamoring about Killer Instinct. It is like saying, "CNN reports a new discovery! The Sun rises in the morning!" No shit. We all saw it ourselves.

I was fairly puzzled by this xmas card from Rare. It seems to be a bit misconceived. First, Banjo is getting some kind of electronic gadget or something that is scary to him? Is it a bomb? He looks really worried. There is some other kind of fumigation device next to his chair? Are these items from his game that we are supposed to recognize or something? And the Viva Pinata animals are really happy like they gave him the bomb and they thought it was a good gift? Do the Pinatas hate Banjo Kazooie? I don't understand.

And then there is a Grunty picture on the wall, so are they in Grunty's house? Why would they have a huge portrait of their enemy on their wall? She also has a stocking on the mantle so I assume that they are all in Grunty's house. That makes no sense either.

Then, next to Grunty's stocking is the Killer Instinct 3 stocking. So the game is actually a person that lives in the house with Grunty? That makes no sense. So maybe the stockings are just supposed to hint at new games. That would make sense. Everyone has been calling for KI3 so maybe they are saying here it is. But then that means that there is a game called Grunty coming out? That makes no sense. And the stocking next to KI3 looks like it says Cunt. So they are making a game called Cunt? Plus there is some kind of Pinata animal burning in the fire so the Pinatas are homicidal?

The whole thing is a clusterfuck just like everything Rare does these days. I hope they get their act together for the Perfect Dark sequel. They used to be so good. It is sad.

Man this would be a dream come true if it exsists. KI was the first fighting game I truely got into. I was working at an arcade when it first came in, I remember thing WTF Nintendo made a fighting game? This should be intresting, and it was.

I was the first person in my town to pull off a shadow move, ultra kill, and ultra combo. Sabertooth FTW!

actually.. its ultraaaa combooooooo as well. depends on which ki we're talking about, and as much as ki gold is downed, thats was one of my fave games of that gen... i spent so many hours playing that as a kid. ki, powerstone, street fighter, fatal fury, and viruta fighter are my favorite fighting game series of all time and only one of those has had steady sequels over the years. glad to see street fighter return, but wheres ki? i think ki would look kinda cool with todays graphical achievements.

Riptor had some interesting combos as well. I still have to say Cinder was prolly my favorite though, theres nothing like an 80 hit air juggle to piss off the guy you just beat the snot out of. KI 1 is prolly my favorite fighter ever, I only played KI2 once on a vacation trip that happened to have an arcade with it, never saw another KI 2 upright anywhere around where I live though.

This would be great on the 360, with upgraded graphics and online play. Probably keep it 2D gameplay. Only go 3D gameplay if you can somehow come up with a fighting system as good as Soul Calibur's.

How did I miss this thread for so long. I'm always telling MS if they want their Rare purchase to be worth something this is it. As opposed to those two shitty fighters they made so long ago. :(
