Looks nice. However, is it me or do the futuristic buildings just look a little off in the skybox backdrop of the 2nd screenshot? It looks like they are rendered using 3 colors. Maybe is the show effect causing it...

As for Quake. Well really I haven't seen anything yet thats making me want to buy this game. Hopefully they will have some nice gameplay cause I'm not big on seeing another Doom 3 type scenario.

We actually have that exact same case for all the computers in our cyber cafe. I think they have the potential to look really nice if you:

1. Manage the rat's nest of cords inside

2. Avoid scratching the stupid plexi-glass

3. Manage to get all the sides to connect together correctly (cheaply made stuff)

They also do extremely well to impress non-nerds (Normies). The rest of the geek population will bitch and moan at them though.

The second one is very nice. I don't know if they will ever manipulate D3 into making outdoor environments to compare to other engines, but they are closer than I would have though.

The rocks behind the mech still look unrealistic.
Im not impressed about the quality of the screenshots.. but still-pictures can decieve. If this is a high framerate action-fest with lotsa cool weapons and a fun no-nonsense story it could be fun. I hope it's not just another Halflife-klone gone bad (Doom3). I'm so tired of endless corridors with some scripting when you step on specific trigger area. Yawn.

I'm interested in 2 different types of FPS:
1. A game with challenge from the AI (actual skill in fights) and an incredible engaging story (ala F.E.A.R / Prey).
2. A game with lots of monsters at the same time, cool weapons, a tounge-in-cheek humour (Duke3D / Serious Sam), plenty of explosions.

Quake4 is not gonna be a number 1 type of game, with the stupid robot aliens etc.
It could be a type 2 game, but the Doom-engine is not capable of showing many enemies at the same time and I hardly believe they would introduce a slapstick-marine in the Quake4 universe. Hmmm.. so why should I buy this game?

On the other Hand, I've only seen some screenshots(which in my opinion looked awful) but i liked the trailer, maybe only the Creature design is the shit and the other stuff is cool.

Qoz, I'm in complete agreement.

I need an action game with a decent plot and characters I like. Give me a chick to protect or something like that. Doom3 was fun at some level but, by the time it was over I was happy to be finished. I need some Japanese plot melded with an American FPS engine and gameplay. Some kind of emotional envolvement not just "how's my ammo".

Here's how the Japanese would have done Doom 3.

You're stationed on Mars, there's a female co-worker who hates you, shit hits the fan. Turns out she's got some special power and is needed for some human sacrifice by the hellspawn, She gets snagged by hell's minions, you spend the rest of the game fighting, rescueing her, character development in cut scenes, she gets captured again (repeat a couple times), she learns that you're not the dick she thought you were, and so on till you have to follow her to hell and bring her back. Maybe you keep in radio contact the whole time or she drops off recordings with clues to the next section.

There's got to be a decent reason to play through. In Doom3 (and many games) the reason ends up being pretty weak.

I can't wait, this game is much different than D3. Faster paced, a lot of squad based fighting and a nice multiplayer aspect.

I'm playing through Doom3 right now, and it's a total one trick pony. The Unreal engine is where isn't at right now for games other than dark corridor shooters, IMO.

quake four has robot alien zombies.Exactly, and doom has robot demon zombies, there’s a huge difference. Strogg, heh. I’m looking forward to this game though. As long as at least half of it departs from narrow corridors and they don’t constantly spawn enemies behind you like Doom 3 did, and there’s some AI to the encounters instead of just pure scripted sequences I’ll be happy. The storyline sure sounds more interesting than Doom, even though Doom 3 was trying its darndest to tell what little of a story it had.
