This week's Rock Band track pack is only available individually.

My Iron Lung - Radiohead
Brass in Pocket - Pretenders (cover)
Buddy Holly - Weezer

Each song is available for 160 MS points. Expect to see these songs on the PSN on Thursday.

Sweetness. I love the constant flow of decent songs for a decent price.

Not to be a killjoy, but is it just me or is the mix for Buddy Holly a little off? Seems like the vocals are a little too forward and the guitar part is toned down considerably. The song just doesn't sound as "full" as it should. I realize they have to tweak these songs so everyone can hear their parts, but this one is a little too noticeable for my tastes.

DL'd Buddy Holly last night. Always loved that song. Can't wait to play it with the full band hah. Friday can't come soon enough.

So, this was the last of the announced sets. Wonder what next week and the future has in store?

How dare they release a product on time with a lot of content and release expansions for it later! Ban expansion packs! Licensing for songs is obviously free! Why should we have to pay for songs that the publisher had to pay for? It's an outrage!

While we're on the subject all cars should ship with all their aftermarket parts installed. Auto manufacturers are also undercutting their products! It's a global conspiracy!

Actually those are called expansion packs (but you tried your best - we're still proud of you.) Typically you'd have to wait for 6 months after release to enjoy those but in this case they're releasing them periodically so that you don't even have to wait.

Patches are for fixing things.
Expansions EXPAND a game.

Sometimes patches add content, such as Keys to the City mode in Crackdown or some of the WoW patches.

And unlike a patch, expansions are not required.

So what is this Rockband community?

At the risk of getting flamed for a slighty vapid post:

I absolutely love this game. My friends, girlfriends, and whole damn posse are getting together every chance we get to jam, and are ending those nights with smiles on our faces (and usually a little Wild Turkey on our breaths.)

This game is a massive step up from Guitar Hero. The cooperative experience, the great song list, and the regular refreshes of downloadable tracks that are really good (Weezer! Radiohead! Sweet!) have already MADE the holiday season for a bunch of us 30-somethings down here in Austin, Texas.

Thanks, Harmonix, for bringing a group of old friends back together again. :)

In this case Rock Band songs you DL are not on the disk. So if your arguing against the RB songs then you are wrong. But if you are arguing against idiotic content that actually does exist on the disk then you have a case.

Lockwood, you could not be more wrong in your assesments. Stating these songs should of come with the disc would suggest that an unfinished product was shipped. On the disc alone is over 70 songs, all playable on four different instruments with several different play modes.

As for the songs themselves, if you had been paying attention you would notice that the majority of songs that have been released as DLC are by artists who already have a song on the disc and those few that aren't are all covers, which take longer to put together (the sole exception being Joker and the Thief by Wolfmother). These are meant to be supplemental material for the people who want it. Example; enjoyed playing Next To You? Pick up the Police Track Pack, grabbing individual songs or picking them all up in a discounted pack.

If anything Harmonix should be applauded for this. They are giving people the ability to expand their Rock Band experience how they see fit. They've also been able to keep a very tight schedule and deliver weekly DLC on both Live and PSN. To be honest I feel quite silly pointing all this out as it is very apparent to anyone who bothered to give even a cursory glance to the situation.

If I could give you a bit of advise it would be to try to be better informed on a situation before you give your thoughts. Or to put in a language you would better understand; Know what the fuck you're talking about before you open your goddamned whore mouth.

Dude, when has Weezer EVER been considered emo? Have you even heard them? Holy shit man, your replies were lame as fuck.

While I don't want to defend or even acknowledge fucking idiot trolls (and I agree with you in that I wouldn't classify Weezer as being an "emo" band, either), I can say that after Weezer released Pinkerton, a slew of extremely popular emo bands totally bit that sound. Both The Get Up Kids full-length Four Minute Mile and The Promise Ring streamlining their sound to focus a bit more on the poppy spectrum of their music come immediately to mind, and there were a ton of bands following in their wake that latched onto that sound as well.

Which isn't to say anything of some of Weezer's later output sounding anything like that record, because a lot of it doesn't. But contrary to popular internet opinion, "emo" is a term that's been around for over twenty years, and there's a lot more history to it than bands with shitty haircuts who wear white belts and girl jeans and bad jokes about people cutting themselves (when did emo kids become the new goth kids?). So again, while I wouldn't call Weezer an "emo" band (and that term has been robbed of all meaning several times over at this point), their impact on a host of emo bands in the second half of the '90s is pretty huge and undeniable.

On topic: I picked up Weezer (who, despite my rambling above, I actually don't even like) and Radiohead, but I haven't checked either one out yet. Maybe tonight?

I wonder if they're taking next week off or if they're going to do something cool for Christmas. Obviously, I'm hoping for something cool.

Good idea! Themed packs would be awesome. Are these packs usually released on Tuesday evenings? If so, they might actually release a Christmas pack next Tuesday. If you could make a three-pack of Christmas Rock Band songs, what would it be?

Off the top of my head:
Christmas Wrapping - The Waitresses (Cute song, and the game needs more female vocalists)
Jingle Bells - The Brian Setzer Orchestra (Brian Setzer has released a couple rockabilly Christmas albums. This is a great song for Rock Band, although the brass instruments would have to be toned down)
You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch - (Some rocking cover of this song, there's a ton of them. I just want to sing it!)

My favorite part is how Radiohead's Thom Yorke wrote "My Iron Lung" as a protest to the success of "Creep." (versus the rest of Radiohead's material, in 1993-1994)

And of course, those are the two Radiohead songs to make the game. Over something like "Airbag," that would be legendary with a full band.

Hopefully Radiohead's latest album, In Rainbows, will get some Rock Band love. The licensing should be cheaper.

Sadly, I finally decided to make the decision to preorder the game about 2 weeks or so ago, at which point I was told that there was just no way I'd be getting a copy when it came out. Sigh.

Of course, I also had to listen to the resident conspiracy nut at the EB I frequent warn me off of getting the game right away as he is convinced that Canada is getting all of the broken guitars from the initial US release. Sigh. Granted, this is also coming from the guy who traded in his 360 for a PS3 and thinks it's the greatest decision he ever made, so I don't know why I even listen to him.

Granted, even if they sent us a pile of broken guitars, you'd think they'd have all been refurbed. It'd be annoying, no doubt, but it's not like they'd ship us a pile of guitars with broken strum bars right out of the box.
