When Harmonix promised weekly downloadable content they were not screwing around. To help keep anyone from drowning in this veritable flood of content I'm hoping this thread will help keep track of all released and upcoming DLC. I'll try to keep up on new announcements but if any of you out there come upon anything feel free to post and I will update the post accordingly. Also, any discussion on future DLC you'd like to see is more than welcome.

Note:

* indicates that the track is a cover

The songs in the bundled "track packs" can also be purchased individually,
be sure to pay attention to what you're buying as you could accidently buy the same song twice

*Created a rad character or guitar you want to show off? Post it here! (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46137)

With a side of "My Iron Lung" for good measure. I've been kind of disappointed with the DLC, as far as song selection goes. The Police Pack was right up my alley though. Man that shit's good. This new release is a close second.

How is the cover of Juke Box Hero? Anyone got it?

I was actually just thinking to myself, "Whoa, lots of covers up there." Still, I have played a ton of Rock Band with friends the last few days, and I can honestly say that when a friend is singing the song and you are trying to play an instrument, you can hardly tell whether it's a cover or not.

Juke Box Hero isn't bad. It's very apparent that Foggerty is NOT singing Fortunate Son but it's still a ton of fun to play.

I love the DLC for RB. It is so much better implemented than the DLC for GH is.

Instead of simply being just an add on that I can play if I feel like it, RB integrates the content into the game progression so that the new tracks feel more like a part of the game.

Plus most of the tracks are pretty fuckin rad. I'm stoked just to see what is coming up next.

And is anyone with me here, but I think Tenacious D's album "Pick of Destiny" would be my # 1 pick for the raddest full album addition to rock band ever. I feel silly saying I would probably lay down 60 bucks just for the fun time that would be. Papagenu!!!

That would be cool, but it would be a crime to never have Tribute in Rock Band.

Hey, just an FYI. Song with a Mission I believe is a cover. You can watch the vid for it, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwlty4AOA6g. So, for those that like RB, I highly recommend subscribing to Npeaen's Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Npeaen). He is doing a good job of showing the songs off in expert. (If anyone finds anyone doing songs in hard/medium, I would REALLY be interested in those, since I am NOWHERE near Expert material) :)

Great damned thread idea. Awesome work.

I got an 1800 Microsoft Points card for Christmas and used it to purchase a significant portion of Rock Band DLC that I hadn't already. I love Rock Band so much. Even songs I'm not a huge fan of are usually a blast to play for one reason or another.

Hell yeah dude. I got in from Atlanta today and downloaded the christmas release songs, plowed through all of them and enjoyed the shit out of it. I think I'm pretty close to finishing out the solo portion of the game on expert. I've yet to beat the last song in the set that has that Aerosmith song, "Train..." something or the other. The last song in that set I swear to God is like 10 minutes or something. I got about 74% through and bailed out on the second solo.

Anyways, the point being, I'm looking forward to the DLC for RB in 2008. I just wonder if they'll be able to keep releasing songs on a weekly basis like they have been. Sure hope so.

I've got two big Rock Band questions for 2008:

1. When/how often will full album downloads arrive?

2. When the inevitable Rock Band 2 hits, will we be able to bring Rock Band DLC over to it? Considering how much DLC they have already and how much I'll be likely to have downloaded by then... I sure as fuck hope so!

Wow, it is a cover. Odd move considering it's a recent song from a relatively uknown band. Wonder why they couldn't get a hold of the master.

New songs are up and it's a goodin'! All covers but awesome selection. Vids were up for Skynyrd and Rush and I'll I add a link to the Crowes cover as soon as it's available.

The Rush song suffers a bit due to the fact that there's no one on God's green Earth that sounds like Geddy Lee but they did a damn good job on 'Gimme Three Steps'.

I'm actually kind of surprised they couldn't get the master track for Tom Sawyer, since it's used in a bunch of other games (All Pro Football and The Bigs immediately come to mind).

Either way, it doesn't matter too much if you've got someone next to you singing the song anyways I suppose.

Aaaand, the Crowes video is up.

Camel; APF and The Bigs probably don't need the masters to put it in the game since you're just listening to the song. With a band as important as Rush I can't see them settling for a cover version when a master still exists. Of course I just pulled those last two sentences out of my ass so take it as you will.

Ninja Edit Update:

Now ALL songs have links to gameplay footage (guitar on expert).

Should be stickied now. IIRC, Harmonix said something about how that DLC would be delayed due to some issues with Sony. I had assumed it would arrive at the same time as the next week's content, though, so if that's up on the PSN store and the old stuff isn't, I have no idea what's going on.

The Dec. 25th DLC (at the holiday .99 price) and this week's DLC will be up on PSN today along with it's normal update.

I didn't put up Nevermind because even though it's been very rumored (and with Harmonix playing coy when it gets brought up) I still don't want to put it up until I can get an official confirmation.

I'm glad everyone's finding this thread useful, I know it's sure helped me keep everything straight. Every damn week, they're really going to do it.....

UPDATE:

As is being reported by the mighy BAP himself on the front page (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42102) looks like there's going to be three exclusive songs on the demo disc for the February issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which will hit shelves on January 15th.

So how "exclusive" is exclusive? Does this mean PS3 owners never get these songs because that would be a damn shame. One that doesn't affect me personally but a damn shame none the less.

Over in the thread that announced the 3 exclusive songs on the OXM disc Evil came up with this:

Lets just set up a trading list. After you buy the magazine and install the songs to your hard drive, just post that you have it available and send it to another EvAv reader for free.

No piracy involved in sending your disc to someone else for free, right?

Personally I'm all for this. I'll be picking up the magazine when it hits the shelf (Jan. 15) and when I'm done with it I'll throw up a post here for someone to shoot me a pm (first come first serve) and then that person can pass it on and so on.

There's a difference between having the rights to the original song like in those sports games, and having the masters. The Harmonix crew needs the vocals, bass, guitar, and drum all on their separate tracks in order to use the masters. If they can't split those up (as well as other tracks for the backing vocals, keyboards, etc), they have to record a cover version. In many cases, no matter how much they want to use the originals, those masters just might not exist or be in a usable format any more.

New DLC week of 1/08/08
So I am going to try each Monday morning to post up the new DLC coming out for the week.

This week at $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) we have-

"Number of the Beast" made famous by Iron Maiden (cover)

"Die, All Right!" by the Hives

"Interstate Love Song" by Stone Temple Pilots

New songs are up. I love this selection, Interstate Love Song is something that's been on my dream list for a while and I love the Hives. If the Maiden cover holds up I'll grab that too, HOWEVER! Not to sound ungrateful but WHERE THE HELL IS THE WHO? Who's Next was one of the first things announced for DLC and if I don't get to play The Bargain and Baba O' Reilly soon I'm going to climb right up the wall.

O.k., I just checked the Wiki. The reference for Nevermind was this interview (http://interviews.teamxbox.com/xbox/2088/Rock-Band-Dan-Teasdale-Interview/p1/)with the Senior Designer:

Q: How did you guys decide on the bands and songs that made it into Rock Band?

Dan Teasdale: At the start of the project, we created our dream list of bands. We had a list of about 2000 or 3000 songs that we whittled down into a list of 200 or 300 songs, and then we went out and tried to get all of those songs. We had an amazing response, and all of the labels were really, really responsive as to some of the bands that we could get. We were able to get The Who, which we never were able to get before, we were able to get the whole of “Nevermind” from Nirvana, which was way beyond our expectations and is incredibly awesome. In terms of the thought process behind it, we wanted to get the whole spectrum of rock, from the 1960s to today, essentially.

That's official enough for me! I was hesitant because the news on this originally broke when it was leaked from an upcoming issue of GamePro but when that issue came out no reference to Nevermind was there. I was a bit leery of it since then but that's all the proof I need. I remember that situation well because...well, I was the one who posted it here back in July (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33346&highlight=teenage+angst). Told you guys I was a total Rock Band whore.

Link to Number Of The Beast is up. I'll do the others later (gotta get ready for a Rock Band party tonight) but I did have time to try something new. There's a link to the guitar and drum note path. When I have more time I'll retrofit all the links to have both.

Quickie cover impressions: Geddy Lee last week and now Bruce Dickinson, they sure don't give their singer down at the studio any softballs. Nothing personal dude but when we get some Queen DLC (and we will dammit, we MUST) I hope you get to take that week off. Still, A for effort.

VERY IMPORTANT DISCLAMER:
By accepting this offer you are agreeing to keeping the chain going and putting the disc back up on the offer block once you are done with it. Do not fuck up the rotation and keep passing the doochie to the left hand side.

I also encourage everyone else with the OXM disc to do the same.

I can already tell I'm going to drop an insane amount of money downloading every song they release. There are only a few of the DLC that I haven't downloaded already.

Do they even have all the masters from that era? I don't think I'd want a Zeppelin cover.
But I agree with Wolvie, the lack of Metal SUCKS -I don't know about Korn or Slipknot, though. The only songs that I play consitently are the Metallica tracks because they are actually CHALLENGING.

Bear with me because there's something I want to try. We all like throwing out what songs we'd like to see in future DLC so here's what I want to do; if this proves popular enough how it will go is that every Friday I post here a theme. You then post a 3-pack of songs you'd like to be in Rock Band that fit that theme (i.e. if the theme is punk then you put together a list of 3 punk songs you'd want in the game). Now these can be done as 3 individual songs or 3 songs from one artist, however you want it. Four shalt thou not post nor shalt thou post two, unless thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out.

My hope is that being constricted to a theme will add a bit more fun than randomly throwing out shit we like and will also be something to do between actual announcements. O.k. enough talk, let's give it a try.

This Week's Theme:
Where Have You Gone Joe DiMaggio?

What we're looking for is songs that bring out a strong feeling of nostalgia in you and makes you yearn for your younger, simpler days.

Free Fallin' - Tom Petty
She - Green Day
Santa Monica - Everclear

Oh man Plush would be a good one. I think they choose a lot of STP because that a good range for a lot of guys to sing.

This is an old complaint, but they need more songs with female singers. I think Blondie would be great. Imagine "Call Me" on Rock Band! :D

The problem with this game is that there's too much good DLC.

The only songs that seem to suck are the Bowie pack (I don't hate Bowie, but those songs are just boring to play for any instrument), Blink 182 (drum and vocals might be fun, but the guitar parts are stupidly repetitive), All American Rejects and 30 Seconds to Mars (just general suckitude). Pretty much everything else is worth getting.

That's where mine broke too, right on the hinge. I took some Gorilla Glue, let it sit over night, and it was like new in the morning. I had to use something to keep the pedal "up" since the spring was screwing up the balance. After it set, I wrapped some duct tape around the base to reinforce it, just in case. It's been fine ever since and actually feels much more sturdy than it did before it snapped.

_AWITHA_TEETHA_ is the one NIN album I pretend doesn't exist :P Should have pulled something from Year Zero, if you ask me. This is the Beginning would have been great. Or Survivalism. Hell, any track from YZ would kick ass.

Gotta agree with that. Survivalism would have been too much for words. Still, I like what they chose except for the Collector.. it's okay though. And more Skynyrd is absolutely awesome.

My source for that March list was this thread over on AVSforum. I guess I should have submitted it as news before Kotaku got to it. Oh well! :)

That NIN pack is going to be nice. If you go listen to the Collector with the idea of playing it in RB, you'll hear that it is a pretty good fit. Should be fun.

I'm actually glad it's a hoax. I'm down with Under The Bridge but I'd prefer it to be coupled with Soul To Squeeze and Aeroplane.

And thanks for the encouragement guys, it makes me want to work even harder to make this thread kick as much ass as possible. And on that note:

This Weeks Theme:
Once. Twice. Three Songs For Ladies

It's been brought up numerous times, we need more songs with female singers. It would make it so much easier to get our lady friends over and lure them to the crawlspace to play some Rock Band.

Cannonball - The Breeders
I'm Just A Girl - No Doubt
Black Velvet - Alannah Myles

Hmmm, this is tougher than I thought:

Also in a semi-important announcement, if you didn't get the 99 cent songs released at Christmas yet, well, sucks to be you. (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/01/cheaper-indie-rock-band-dlc-raised-to-standard-price/)
We hope those fans didn't procrastinate, though, because the price for all five tracks has been raised to the more conventional $1.99 as of yesterday.

While there was no indication at the outset that the lower price would be in any way temporary, the increase has been rumored for a couple of weeks now.I personally got, and enjoyed, The Sounds (a rare female band), but can't stand the others. Even at the new price, I'd recommend "Song With A Mission". But I guess in the future I'll be quicker to snatch up any discounted songs.

Fleetwood Mac - Rhiannon
Garbage - Queer
Juice Newton - Queen of Hearts

:)I was going to pick the last two, until I saw yours. Freaky mindreader.

I have my hooks in you in ways you can't imagine. Be scared. Be very scared.

I love the song Rhiannon, but if this was really going to be a RB song pack, I think I would choose those last two (Queen of Hearts and Queer) and add Magic Man to it. Can't believe I didn't include any Heart in my song pack. Seriously though, I think those 3 songs would be fun enough / pop enough to actually make that pack worthwhile. Not sure how many chicks our age would actually know all of those songs, but once they sang them, I think they would have a lot of fun with them.

Let's get a release list for February please.

Sincerely,

P.S. If it's not too much to ask, how about some full albums, too.

EDIT: also, found this (http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/4545/rhcppacknk1.jpg)concerning the RHCP DLC for the 18th. Looks legit to me.

It probably won't be, since the only "official" version with him singing is on their live album. The album versions of the song had Chuck Mosely on vocals.

But from the post, all the songs say "by" instead of "as made famous by", so I'd guess all three songs are the originals.

And on certain articles of clothing. When your on the screen for instrument or clothing description look at the bottom of the screen. It will say hit [instrument specific button, i.e. the yellow fret for guitar] to add art. It's really amazing what you can make with a little imagination.

You can, but only in Band World Tour. In your band profile you can create your own custom logo. That logo will then appear on the kick drum.

Meet The New Wave, Same As The Old Wave

Ah, the 80's. A time where a band was hoping to score hits as big as their hair (and trust me kids, the hair was BIG). It was also a time where MTV actually meant something. People would excitedly tune in wondering what crazy new video and band were waiting to be discovered. So that's the theme, give me three songs from that period of the 80's where a catchy video could propel a band from uknowns to superstars.

I'm going to mix it up with this one and do an artist track pack. You're of course free to do it however you wish.
