View Full Version : Bungie Preparing to Claim More of Your Money

The first batch of downloadable content for Halo 3 was released fewer than three days ago, and Bungie is already planning another round to suck money (or rather Microsoft Points) from the pockets of hungry gamers. From Bungie's weekly update (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=13088).
We’re playing the next batch of DLC. This first trio has been very well received. Eventually your Halo experience will be so swollen and engorged that you’ll have a hard time even remembering what the original map selection was. In the future, we’ll be bringing you more fully custom built maps and they may include one or more of the following:

· Symmetrical arena maps for competitive play.
· Returning classics demanded by the fans.
· Crazy new stuff you never expected.
· Unusual maps with lots of potential for interesting game types.
· Graphically spectacular settings.
· More Forge objects to use on new maps.
· Surprises.
No word on when the DLC would be released or how much it will cost.

"Crazy new stuff I never expected" seems to be the exact same thing as "surprises."

As long as they make the DLC eventually free like they are doing with the map pack, I say bring it on!

By the way, rumor has Bungie trying to get 4 map packs out in the first 12 months of the game's release, so we may be seeing these every 3 months from here on out.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care for most of the Halo 3 multiplayer maps that came on the disc?

That's right everyone, they are gradually adding the fun. ;)

Do they addons include a plot for Halo 3?

Look, the Halo games have the best video game plot ever, okay? Ask anybody.

Especially frat boys.

Sweet, more free stuff if I wait a few months after they're released!

Is this the patch that adds the fun.

Yeah, I've got nothing. :p

Wow, couldn't have a Halo thread without people bitching about its story.

By the way, if you're going to bitch... get it right. It had a "plot". An "in-depth story" is what it lacked. ;)

Back to the OP, that's pretty exciting. I think Bungie realizes that with all the AAA titles out right now, this is what they're going to have to do to keep people from forgetting about the game... 'cause it's definitely not going to keep people around (the way Halo 2 did) otherwise, I think.

I think this Bungie person is just talking about his penis. Swollen, engorged? Sounds terrible. Like my Halo experience will someday be in need of lancing.

I'm pretty sure they said that the new mappack will come out in the spring, the same time the old one becomes free.

I was wondering...if I purchase a map pack, will it be used in matchmaking, or is it just for custom games? If I remember well, in Halo2, the new maps were only used in matchmaking once they became free.

If I remember correctly, you can use them in matchmaking, but of course everyone else in the match has to have those maps.

Which sucks if you're a cheapskate like me and wait until they become free. My brother and most of my friends have the map pack and want to play, but I won't pay for something I can get for free later. :D

The worst part is that ill buy them all. The good thing is since I didn't buy the Legendary, I guess Ill still be ahead in total cost compared to people who got "Helmets."

They should make a new game mode or two to go with one map pack, that would surprise the hell out of me.

$130 Legendary Edition + 4 $10 Map Packs + 2 $15 Campaigns + 5 $3 Filler Content

Microsoft is going to suck every penny it can from this franchise. It would be one thing if if this is the only time it would happen....but if this works and enough people buy in, every big game franchise is going to be sold this way.

Buying this stuff is going to make this marketing method the model. Will the consumer band together in boycott? Hell no. The future is filled with more horse armor and map packs.

Microsoft gave me a code to get the maps, and boy I'm glad they did. I'd be pissed if I paid $10 for these. The one big outdoor one is good, the rest...not so much.

I really hope they eventually add the ability to place aliens, marines via forge. Or even just "bots." I'm not really big on the multiplayer portion of Halo 3 and the single player campaign is way too short to keep me entertained for long. If I could set up little skirmishes with NPC's via Forge, though. That would keep me entertained for quite some time.

Let's hope they're not literate, either!

Future code reception? Signal jammed.

I hated the map pack, terrible maps IMO, it was the update they made that has made me want to play Halo 3 more. BR Starts, Team Snipers in ranked Slayer, Team Duals is kind of fun, the removal of some of the Maulers, and it seems some of the lag has been toned down (this I never thought would be fixed at ALL). I'm enjoying Halo 3 more and now I have great games I've bought recently that I've barely touched (like Assassin's Creed and Uncharted) that are STILL not being played because all I'm playing is Halo 3 and COD4.

I gave in to the hype with Halo 3...but I'm not buying any map packs or anything else. Was my first 360 game that I played online...but now having played COD 4 I realize I'll never go back to Halo 3.

If I were a true fan I wouldn't mind paying I guess. Right now I would pay for more COD 4 maps..even though I've yet to become tired with any of the current maps.

Map packs which become free after a few months. Truly, a dark future for us all.
