On the surface, Hero's Journey looks pretty much like many other MMORPGs on the market or in development, with a jazzy 3D engine that lets the player zoom in, and rotate to view the world from any imaginable camera angle. However, like so many other parts of Hero's Journey, it's what's beneath the surface that makes the difference. Check out these images.

The world has neat scenery. I really dig some of the settings such as screenshots 35 and 36. The indoor areas look a little bland and the character models shown aren’t that compelling to me though, not that many of them were shown. For some reason I keep expecting the characters to look like those from Lineage II.
I read the preview from which that quote was taken and it didn't really specify what's so different about this MMORPG. World in chaos, multiple races, um...stats. Don't really see what's so groundbreaking about that. Elfs and Catpeople. Never seen those before.

A revolutionary MMORPG satisfying the fetish for furries, everywhere? Haha, one of the many fetishes I shall never understand.

"This amazing fish here is a groundbreaking fish, totally unlike any other fish in the sea! I mean, look at its pink fins! Tremenous! Marine Biologists will be stumped for years as to its pink colouration!"

From a technological standpoint, it looks nice, from an art standpoint it looks pretty darn ugly. It's just not nice to look at

From their forums:
Hero's Journey has what is called the Journey System that dynamically creates story arcs for your character. What elements come into the story are, in fact, based on what you do... So the actions you take in a Quest, if significant, are remembered....So, if you start a new character in the game, don't expect to see the same story."
Also they have 200 GMs that can dynamically add content to the game without having to take it down.
Don't know how it'll work, hopefully nicely. Would be good to have a game with a bit of replayability depending on your choices.

Get your "meh" in quickly: I get a feeling this game's Meh Hat is going to fill up in record time.

*cough* I'll be playing it *cough*
But anyhow, their volunteer system pwns ass. As long as the game is decent, I'll play.

So what's it been? like 7, 8 years since they were at this point last time around?
Wonder if these 'screenshots' are mocked up in 3ds too.
At least you can see the sky this time. /shrug

I think it looks very purrrty. I admit that it has some texture ugliness issues, but they're nothing compared to EQ2 (blech). For some reason, the visual style REALLY reminds me of the cutscenes from Baldur's Gate, couldn't say why...

They seem to have gone to the Myst school of graphical style.

I am really looking forward to Hero's Journey! Simutronics has gotten the whole MMORPG thing down to a fine art with their text based games, and I am hoping they continue their unique implementation of the whole genre with Hero's Journey!
The dynamic gaming world built up by lots of GMs is somethign that no other MMORPG can match. They also focus on the fun of the game, rather than the tedious portions such as all the travelling to get from town to mission etc.
I find the graphics are terrific, the screenshots have some lovely sweeping views. Of course, by the time it is finally released we will always have something better out there, but by no means do I think the graphics are bad.
IGN has some great features posted for the game if anyone is really interested:
"In Hero's Journey, your character will have a story arc that is uniquely his or her own. To achieve this effect, we have built a sophisticated mechanism called the Journey System. It is responsible for dynamically creating story elements and plot points as you explore the world of Elanthia. Along the way the system introduces random plot elements drawn from things you do, encounters you've had, people you meet, what others do and major world events. It keeps things moving, keeps them interesting and makes your play experience unique to that character. As an added bonus, this greatly enhances replayability if you want to start over (maybe to try a different profession)."
