MTV's Multiplayer Blog (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2007/12/11/hands-on-with-echochrome-the-pros-and-cons-of-sonys-bold-ps3-game/) has some hands on impressions with the upcoming PSN and PSP game, EchoChrome. There's a pretty good write up on what it's like to play the game's first few levels, but the really exciting part is this:
It’s tentatively set for a spring release. Exactly when is partially dependent on Sony’s development and testing of the game’s level editor. Yes, you will be able to make “Echochrome” levels that will also tax my skills. The levels will be sharable online through PS3, though the exact way Sony will handle and at all proctor that has not been determined.
I'm loving the fact that so many games now are getting level editors that allow us to share our creations with others. I really hope this catches on.

I agree, but the snarky side in me can't help but think "Hey, welcome to PC gaming, 10 years ago!".

Yep, and it's the one thing in PC gaming that I've really been wanting. With the power of these consoles now, and most of them having HDDs, there's no reason why we can't get level editors for console games like we've been seeing on PCs for years.

The original, free project where they based this game on has a level editor. I don't see why this wouldn't be in the premium version.

“Echochrome” is planned as a PSP and downloadable PSN version (for PS3) in Japan but, according to Eagle, is right now only 100% pegged as a PSN (via PS3) release in North America.
Garbage. Fix it, Sony.

Well, that depends on your platform's overall support for user-created content, doesn't it?
Sony is going to push to get user-created content as a bullet point on many of their games specifically because it is something you'll almost never see on their competitors' products.
...and hopefully it becomes a big enough competitive difference that the other platform holders decide to modify their stance.

It also depend on the game. Without a level editor, Echochrome wouldn't last long. Making your own puzzles and sending them to friends is what will make this title great, not the levels that will be in there, or at least not on their own.

True enough, though it's scary to think consoles are really started to emulate PC's. With user created content just around the corner what selling point does the PC still have?
Needless this is good news.

?
Are you serious?
Even Elebits had a level editor that you could use with Wii connect 24 to share with friends. In-game level editors aren't exclusive or anything special. Hell, even Race Driver: Create and Race (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ds/racedrivercreateandrace), a DS game, has a kick-ass level editor in it.
Level editors are great, and the bullet point should be on the box cause it extends the playability of games. To state that it is a competitive difference based on the platform is silly, as level editors have been around a long time (http://www.mobygames.com/game/nes/lode-runner).

I can't wait for this game. I think I'm more excited for this than LBP on the PS3.

Yes, I am serious and yes, you can find some exceptions.
You can also pretend that they're commonplace if it makes you feel better.
Do you really think I give a shit about your opinion with respect to anything Sony? chuckle. Used to be able to put mods on ignore around here, gotta wonder why that was changed.
It has only been a day and you've already forgotten where Sony themselves said exactly what I just did. (http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/dec2007/gb20071211_409881.htm?chan=top+news_top+news+index _global+business)

That was about PSN, btw, with respect to content.
My advice? Stick with the stealth trolling, it works better.

Well... input devices can be a barrier.

Not if the console supports mouse and keyboard.

I was mostly responding to the fact that the PSP version may not come to the US, as I was very set on getting it for that system.
