The box is pretty hypnotic... must buy now.
Indeed. I usually don't care about style, but look at this then look at the ps3. Xbox1 looked better than the PS3.

Ehhhh... I've pretty much decided to get one at or near launch, but I still dislike the look of it. The curved white plastic just makes me think of PVC pipes, like it's a high-tech filter for a hot tub. The controller still looks like an old third-party SNES controller I used to have. The box just looks like they really weren't trying. Still, it's better everything we've seen of the PS3 case and controller.

I've seen a lot of boxes in my time and that one is the best one with a green swirly circle logo.

The curved design doesn't do anything for me either. I just think the idea of custom face plates is pretty neat and it doesn't really matter what your console system looks like (as long as it doesn't look like Barbie's purple purse), it is what games it has.
I just got mad Dreamcast deja vu.
I don't see the resemblance.

It looks more like a Ron Popeil Pepper Shaker 2000. It does nothing for me except for one thing: I thought I used to hate the original xbox design, and now I don't :) At least the custom plates might be cool, we should see some nice stuff to come...
The box looks like they fed a kid 2 cans of soda and gave him a couple crayons... "CIRCLES, BILLY! A MILLION OF EM! AS FAST AS YOU CAN! NOW GO GO GO !!!"

I really like the look of the 360...not that it really matters in the long run. But props to Microsoft. They took a common critism of the original XBOX and turned it around.

Anything about the lack of cables for the TV connections? Last I heard they weren't included, but that was speculation...
Last I heard that was BS.

The Dreamcast spiral logo looks like X360's circles, maybe? Also both of the consoles are white, although so is PS3.

Yeah, that rumor was debunked. (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3910) It comes with cables.

I have a feeling the light color of the Xbox looks a lot nicer in person than it does in compressed JPEG shots.

Im still debating whether to get a 360. I love my XBOX, but i dont know if the launch titles for the 360 are worth it...actually, i dont know what the launch titles are for the 360. I dont wanna make the same mistake twice. Last thing i bought launch day was the DS, and i went bored for 4 whole months.

The only places I want curves is on a woman. Would be nice if you could stick a face plate on some of them as well.

The box looks kinda cool. Like... that is cool, not "that is a cool game box" its a cool box.
Good thing they are learning from Sony, but with a better font.

It's a really, really nice looking system. The controller looks great as well - the design team really did a great job.
I'm glad videogames are becoming mainstream enough that they're actually putting some effort into the design. IMO, the 360, PS3 and Revolution are all great looking systems. That they're all (probably) wireless is an added bonus - no snakes nest of cables sitting in front of them

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion by itself will last you some time. That's the kind of deep, expansive game you don't usually get at launch. You usually get fighting games and other shallow, short kind of games.

I believe many people will get Oblivion for the mods (which are only for the PC version of the game).

I just don't like the design/aesthetic of the 360. While I'm not in love with the original Xbox design, I prefer it to this.
Maybe it looks better in person, but the 360 reminds me of a Vegetable Thin cracker.
I like the design of the PS3 (but not the controller) and Revolution though.

...does anyone else think that with this packaging people will start thinking that the Xbox is made by Apple? It looks like an ipod that just had liposuction.

That's because everything is trying to look as sleek as the ipod. Too bad everyone is copying a simple desgin. I think this looks much better then anything apple's throwen out in the last couple of years. iMacs? please.

Of the 3 designs I'm liking the Revolution the best. The 360 comes next and the PS3 is way behind.

Most people don't ever load up a mod for their games. Mods are more of a hardcore thing.

I'm betting there will be several fairly successful Xbox2 Oblivion mods.
On topic: Why does packaging get a topic? It's packaging. Console design is important. Controller design is important. Packaging gets thrown out.

There will be mods, and some will be successful.
Certainly not to the degree that the PC will get, but I never said that.
Incidentally, the fact you believe that more than a tiny fraction of people buy games 'for the mods' is even funnier.
Most people didn't buy Neverwinter Nights for the mods, why would you expect people to do that for Oblivion?

yeah, looks ok. looks about 100 billion times better than the first xbox. or maybe 100 billion and one. though it's the games that i'll buy a system for, not the aesthetics (despite being v impressed with the silver mini-PS2 i saw at a mate's last weekend. mmm) so i'm probably gonna wait for halo3 ;-)

Hot DAMN! My thirst for Xbox 360-related news is quenched for another day or so… As for the packaging, I simply can’t wait to get my very own 360 on launch day – and I will keep the packaging FOREVER!
Uh guys i just want to be sure I am clear on this. Were talking about the box right? Who cares? Last time I checked most of the people I know that bought a console weren't really that upset because it clashed with their Feng Shui(no idea on the spelling).

What is that black thing on top of the console, it pretty much ruins what is otherwise a design that is pleasing to the eye.

It's the 20GB hard drive. It's completely removable, though, so your eyes should consider themselves pleased.

How's in the name of everything Queer Eye for the Straight Guy-related does the box look "gay"? I've never understood the concept of an inaminate object looking gay.

I will try not to take my Xbox 360 with me when I'm dirt-biking.

The console reminds me of a kitchen appliance that's been run over by a truck. Still a vast improvement over the original Xbox though.

The box looks ok, but as someone said earlier "Its a box."
The 360 design looks pretty nice....it has little impact on whether I buy it (which technically I already have, I'm just waiting for it to show up.) but its a nice plus.
As for the PS3. It is hideous...but I bet you that the 'thing' that was shown at E3 was something simply pulled out of Sony's anus. If anyone has seen it, it looked just like one of their radios...though I'm not sure what the model number was. I really think that Sony sold everyone on a rough idea of their console...now they are going back and doing the real work. I've heard nothing but 'changes' going on for PS3. How many changes have been made since their unveiling...I'd be shocked if there wasn't a dozen already.
