In Focus (http://www.infocusmag.com/05augustseptember/whedonuncut.htm) brings us a lengthy interview with Joss Whedon. In it, he discusses almost every film he's ever been involved with, including the upcoming, much-anticipated Serenity and the early-in-production Wonder Woman.

I do not believe she will be flying. I think we have a guy who flies. I don't see her flying. She might jump. There could be some hopping. And there may in fact be an invisible plane. But if there is, it will be because it came out really cool. And I have theories about how to make that work ... I'm looking for somebody statuesque, regal, beautiful, who can really act and do a lot of stunts with no elbow or knee pads. I'm asking a lot. So if I happen to find all those qualities in somebody who does not quite meet my height requirement, I will be casting some really short love interest. The height is definitely a part of the package. But the most important part? No. And the fact of the matter is, a woman stands as tall as she makes you think she is. For example, I always thought ['Buffy' writer-producer] Marti Noxon was four inches taller than she actually was. I just found that out last week.

Far more interesting than most interviews. Whedon is quite the interesting fellow. I think I'm starting to see why so many people like him. Oh, and he loves Warren Ellis.

/.'ed already!? Goddamnit, a Whedon interview is exactly what I need after today at work!
Whedon is, I'm pretty sure, top of my screenwriters list. he's just brilliant. Also, best commentary ever would have to be for Objects in Space. The most interesting one I've ever seen. Simply cannot wait for Serenity...

I really have been meaning to check out Whedon stuff for a while. I promise I'll get around to that this year. Time to really start abusing interlibrary loan.

Well, I decided he is my favourite comic writer after reading Fray and the Astonishing X-men. Need to get round to ordering the Serenity comics now.

And it appears that infocusmag.com is with a hyphen (infocus-mag.com) but that is 404ing.

I don't think it is with a hyphen. Or at least the link to the interview isn't. And that's still working.

Is hosed an EA term for Wanged?

Did some checking: In Focus-mag (with the hyphen) is a different site altogether. Nothin Whedon-related there, sadly.

Have you added any other season-passes to your TiVo of late?
“House.” I adore “House.” I’ve loved Hugh Laurie forever, but I love that character. I actually choke up at the thought of how powerfully noble and beautiful his total misanthropy is. He touches something very special in me because he’s just so mean.
The man is god, case closed.

Didn't like the whole buffy and angel thing.... But I'm a movie buff and the Serenity trailer made little since to me was cool... I heard of firefly but couldn't bring myself to watch... I got the DVDs and was floored with good as tv... I hope it can pull a family guy and be the second show dvd saved... Although this would be more like the tv show a blockbuster movie saved... It actually looks like this movie could be my favorite movie of the whole freakin year... Umm maybe... I was confused and disheartened that the bounty hunter in the new movie wasn't Juble Early... That guy was freaking classic... New guy seems just as brash though so I'm cool...

Wonder Woman... meh... After hearing about how Charlize put pants on Aeon Flux.(90% chance of sucking, pending trailer)... Can we get a Lobo movie... Or a movie with Wolverine having fighting abilities... I mean I'm tired of this I get beat up by mystique thing... How about that David Goyer's the Flash with ryan renolds, although I will hire a assassin if he ever tries to direct again... Blade 3 was horrid... Til then my ban on comic movies(aside from future chris nolan batmans) will stay on...

Hah, Lobo, now that'd be a movie to see

Kefkataran

Well, they are making a Wolverine solo flick soon...

Ugh, Wolverine movie requests... that's more generic and boring than Batman movie requests. Not that I wouldn't see either, but hell.

As for Lobo, I'm going to go ahead and doubt it for now, but if DC starts pushing up their movie production the way Marvel has, who knows what the future holds.

HEEEEEY
My wolverine request isn't dull... He sucks in the movies... Can't fight a lick... Even him fighting wouldn't be enough... Hugh Hackman... pfft...

What i'd PAY to see would be a CGI of Wolverine and the Hulk fighting... No TRUE fanboy would say a crap fight like that's ridiculous or whatever because THEY would know that same fight was Wolverine's first appearence, and they have fault several times, including fighting Joe Fix-It, and Wolverine as the fourth horseman Death... SURE SURE it's pretty damn obivious that hulk could probably ball is body up like a tin can to which Logan would never return...

I rather like gubbed! There's another favorite Scottish one, but it's probably too raw to list it here.

Xerxes, no offense meant. It's just that all the pseudo-comic fans who just sort of watch from the sidelines and don't take much interest tend to love the same few characters -- Batman, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage. It's fine to like these characters, I just think it's sad that they tend ignore the legions of other characters, many of whom have much better or more interesting backgrounds. I mean, shit, i have no clue how they'll try to explain Wolverine's past in the Wolvie solo flick. That shit's so convoluted that he's basically become an impossible character.

Anyways, enough ranting. :p

If you go based that Origins book it's ok... What oddball characters you trying to get too anyways... I said the Flash although he's "kinda" mainstream...

I did like this comic called Hardware, I thought the black guy from NYPD Blue could did that...

Kefkataran
08-03-2005, 10:54 AM
Flash was a good choice. Or, say, Green Lantern. I don't mean not mainstream... I just mean not as boring to be a fan of as Wolverine and Batman. :P

I don't think I've heard of Hardware. Any clue who wrote it?

Dwayne McDuffie, i think it was like DC Vertigo, a DC spinoff, but I that one was from DC Milestone...

Kefkataran

I'll have to check into that.

Maybe you heard of Static or Static Shock the cartoon... He came from the DC Milestone collection as well...

Much more familiar sounding, yes. I vaguely recall the character, though I know nothing about him.

They need to do a movie of Sleepwalker, Marvel's most unsung superhero :)

What about Warren-Ellis-written Wolverine movies? He writes a great, brutal Wolverine.

Y'know, I just read through "From the Desk of Warren Ellis, Vol.1" and he talks about doing his Wolverine book a little. I really wanna find it and check it out now. I want to see how he does with such an impossible character. I'm guessing he just ignores a lot of the back story, which would work fine for me.

He says fuck this and just creates his own backstory for the arc. The whole thing is basically a side story. Good though.

Sounds good. Speaking of Ellis and Marvel stuff, you been paying attention to this Nextwave team he's putting together for next year? It looks fantastic.

Yeah, looks very nice. Sadly, the nearest comic store is like 45 minutes and two buses away. I'll make it out there eventually, but a weekly trip is not feasible.

That is sad. Ever considered using an online subscription service? I know a few comic sites (possibly BCB?) offer them, though I don't know how great they are.

Either way, Nextwave doesn't start until January, I thinks.

Are there any reliable online comic services in Canada? Decent comic shops are few and far between where I am. I have to rely on my friend who works in downtown Toronto to skulk about and get my Serenity comics.

Want to know how bad it is? I was at the local convenience store and saw The Astonishing X-Men #10 on the rack. I haven't read the series yet but had heard nothing but good things so I picked it up.

As I'm reading it, I notice that a lot of the ads seem a bit old or out of date for a comic that I just bought last Wednesday. I flip to the front and check the publishing info and bam. Published May 2005.

Sigh. I need something better than this.

I've been getting lots of graphic novels out of the library, but I think I've read all of them now.

I'd look around and see if some of the major comic sites distribute to Canada. Check BCB, Silver Bullet, or any other sites advertised at www.newsarama.com or www.comicbookresources.com

OR, ask on the Newsarama or CBR forums. Someone there would almost definitely know. :)
